The graphic just said this was Yale's first win in four NCAA tournament appearances, and they were previously 0-4. Now, I didn't go to Yale, but something about that doesn't seem right. Was the tournament double elimination way back when?

realize that with 2.2 seconds left and down four, the best chance to win is to throw a length of the court pass to catch and score right under the bucket.  Yes, there is a risk of interception.  But you're facing close to 100 percent chance of loss if you do something else.  You might score in a second or less, forcing the opposition to inbound the ball in a one-possession game.  Or you might get fouled, go to the line, make one, miss, bat it out to three for the tie.  Or make both and be relatively set up to steal the inbounds.

The only chance with a backcourt inbounds is if the opposition loses its mind and fouls.  (VCU did it a few years ago in the first round to send the game into OT up four w/ three seconds left.  They subsequently lost.)  If I'm coaching Yale, I've prepared my team for that situation and have them play freeze tag drama club with their arms close to the body once the backcourt inbounds pass has left the inbounder's hands.

Purdue beats us more often than not in Big Ten conference play.  They are way ahead of us in Big Ten championships.

Yet Purdue would kill for Michigan's NCAA Tournament record history.

When it comes to the NCAAs, Michigan gets it done.  Purdue on the other hand, is one of the most under-achieving programs of all time in the NCAAs.

They would trade all of those Big Ten titles for just one of Michigan's big tournament runs.
