This shouldn't come as a surprise, we all know how Harbaugh loves to change things up.  Trendsetter he is. Lets see how it goes before we pass judgement.

Another beast PR move by Harbaugh. I'm sure it'll be televised and attract a ton of attention.

Love it, even if it is a chilly evening. Hopefully it'll be a warm one!

To build up the fans' toughness.  Its a meritrocracy for the fanbase.  If you can't handle it, someone else will.

Also, this helps to avoid the oppressive April heat Michigan is known for.

To me, this is just awesome.  I hope that we pack the place with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.  Let ESPN and all of the media show clips of our awesome and pumped fanbase, like they do for schools like Bama.  Anything that helps recruiting.

I would like it to go a step further.  What about halftime entertainment... like an actual concert with someone that students would like to be entertained by... or some kind of mock rock talent show thing... or something along those lines, to make it more of an event under the lights to get more students there.

...I hate the idea of having it at night so early in the year!

  1. Push it back to the latest possible date. Warmth is key.
  2. Have it at night. Awesome idea - if it's warm.
  3. Maize vs. Blue game - all maize jerseys/pants vs. all blue jerseys/pants....this pacifies the crowd who craves to see these in a real game. You can make money by selling these uniforms. You can donate the money made to #CHADTOUGH or Mott's to make everyone who hates the idea go "okay, I can live with that," and you can appeal to the CROOTS!

IMO, make the Spring Game your Oregon-esqe/"Blue Hairs" worst nightmare game. Have your Beyonce halftime show. Go crazy with it. Make it 100% for the students and the young fans. Get it all out at once in a meaningless scrimmage and leave the regular season (and bowl games) alone.

Seems like a fair compromise.

As someone who has a 2 hour drive to Ann Arbor, this kinda sucks. Will have to leave immedietly after work and then get home late. I'll still probably go (so I guess they win), but Saturday afternoon was ideal.

Coming from TN, it's about an 8 hr drive for me.  Went to the game last year and was looking forward to bringing my kids with me this year.  Between skipping work/school I don't know if I can make it now either.  A Saturday game would have made it much easier for anyone not in the immediate area.

The earlier date isn't a surprise with spring practice starting on Feb. 29. Spring practice has to fall within a 34-day window, so this year the last day is Saturday, April 2. But there's a lacrosse doubleheader scheduled at Michigan Stadium that day, so that must've led to the decision to make it Friday night.

This is not why this happened, a lacrosse match being held at Michigan could have been one of the smallest factors that played into this decision. This is not an "explanation" for why the game is being held at night. I would go on to explain, but you can read many of the responses above to as to why this was done, all of which make way more sense then a lacrosse double header being scheduled....KMN.

I never said the lacrosse DH was the sole reason for the date they picked. But are you really suggesting that the spring game doesn't have to be worked in around other already-scheduled events?

My guess is the original plan was to have the spring game later in April as usual, but that changed when the decision was made to hold the beginning of spring practice during spring break. That made April 2 the last day within the 34-day NCAA-mandated window for spring practices. They could've gone with March 26, but as someone else pointed out, that's Easter weekend. April 2 doesn't work because of the lacrosse DH, so that leaves moving it to Friday.

that was not my suggestion. I'm not saying that it wasn't part of it, I just think the lacrosse double header was lower on the list than you are representing it to be. Maybe I read your original comment wrong, I just didn't read any other reasons for the game being on a Friday in your comment besides "lacrosse team has a DH that day"....

the 34 day window would have already been considered well before deciding to hold practice over spring break. We will just have to agree to disagree, my original point was that so many other factors are more important than the lacrosse double header for scheduling the spring game on Friday, which is just my opinion.

Seems like the second year we were led to believe that the Big House 5k was going to be the day after the spring game. DB is gone so I don't expect this stuff to happen anymore.

May be of service here given the mild winter and the long term forcasts saying that we will most likely have a warm spring too.

It's different.  Like it.  Maybe some fireworks?
