Do we have a RB with the skill-set of Khaleke Hudson?  True scat back?

Seems De'Veon gets decent yards after contact which is great and we need that, but maybe 225?  Is it correct to say that KH is a little more elusive? He seems to find clean air slightly better than De'Veon does or find holes better.

Maybe JPepp is the closest to Khaleke, but he weighs more too, iirc.

Would you be surprised if Khaleke gets some snaps at RB next year as a true fr?

Yeah - I actually was too once you popped that question. I had a "hmmm" moment where I realized I had used a term before that I had no clue where it actually came from. Scat as feces was my first thought as well, but I did not think that was right.

I find etymology very fascinating: It's 2016 and we're using a word to describe a RB that comes from someone in the 1830's making a hissing sound and then saying "cat" when discribing something moving fast. Though, besides the occassional Jeopardy clue (or MGoBoard topic) my knowledge there is mostly useless.

I seriously doubt Hudson sees any carries on offense.  Just comparing him to the other ball carriers on the team,(smith, johnson, higdon, isaac, peppers, plus all the incomming fresmen rb's) I just can't see how he would earn a carry overy any of them. Again though, very impressive talent.

Lets slow our roll on adjectives.

Rashan Gary is a phenomenal athlete - so is Jabrill Peppers.  So is Chesson. Hudson runs a verified 4.61.  @ 205 lbs.  Gary apparently runs 4.74.

Guy has a great nose for the ball and is a 'football player' - if he had the athleticism of some other guys he'd probably be a high 4 instead of a high 3*.

The world is a lot easier to comprehend if we just assume that the professionals "don't know what they're talking about."

All those dietitians who say I should stop eating so much bacon? They don't know what they're talking about.

All those economists who say we need to limit our spending? They don't know what they're talking about.

We can assume that anyone who is predicting the future won't be 100% accurate, even the great Nick Saban and the great Jim Harbaugh. That doesn't mean we should assume that anyone predicting the future "doesn't know what they're talking about."

Bacon? What the hell. That's a complete non sequitor. Anyway, obviously the sites have some idea what they're talking about. But they miss on the obvious way too much. Some sites had Derrick Green rated higher than Derrick Henry. Seriously. And I'm sure you're thinking well hindsight is 20-20. It is. But when I watched their film 3 years ago it was about that obvious Henry was the vastly superior player. That's about when I lost all confidence in the recruiting sites. It was just so obvious. One of my friends coaches HS in VA and beat Derrick Greens team in the state semi final. I asked him what he through of Green. "Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane". Go back and watch his HS film. It's a joke. A bunch of 5 years runs where he's going down on first contact. Terrible balence and lateral agility. Below average straight line speed. Poor vision.

Well, you were right about Derrick Henry vs. Derrick Green, so clearly "the recruiting sites don't know what they're talking about."

This 116-year-old woman ate bacon every day, so clearly dietitians don't know what they're talking about and we should all eat a steady diet of bacon! Right?

for next season.  Khaleke will surely get some carries.

Is he a scat back? Is anyone else on the team a scat back?

Hell I don't know,  in college against faster, stronger players

than a guy sees in High School,  the tape will tell

to see how a guy runs against that type of competition.

I can't wait to see what the guys can do and who will get a 1000+

yards next season.  Hopefully the O-Line can stay healthy

and become consistant Road Graders starting week 1.

My own recollection of a football term I hadn't heard in years was that a "scatback" was a small, elusive ballcarrier whose speed and dodginess compensated for lack of bulk. A short Google turned up the name of the legendary (in Georgia, anyway) Clint Castleberry, who played one season at Georgia Tech in 1942 before departing for the military.

Weighing in at (a probably soaking wet) 155 pounds and standing all of 5'9", Clint tore up Southern gridirons in the fall of 1942. Tech went into its final game with Georgia undefeated and nationally ranked. Although Tech lost that game to a powerful Georgia team and lost to Texas in the Cotton Bowl, it ended the 1942 season at 9-2 and ranked #5 in that year's AP poll. For the record, in 1942 Michigan finished a 7-3 season ranked #9 in the AP poll.

Clint Castleberry was the archtype "scatback." So even if Khaleke Hudson were to become a running back, at 6'0" 206 lbs he would hardly qualify as a "scatback," regardless of his 40 time and ability to turn on a dime. And indeed, whether another authentic "scatback" ever takes the field at the BCS level anywhere is probably doubtful at best.

In theory....Yes.  Looking at how the position is Stacked:

Smith -- Johnson -- Isaac -- Higdon -- Walker -- Davis etc.

There is a ton of talent and versitality in that lineup.  Plenty of guys who can Tote the Rock, and thats not even considering what Peppers can bring.

So there's that... and the fact that in my humble opinion, Khaleke Hudson is the BEST Safety prospect in the past 10 years (even better than Peppers, as Hudson is more of a natural strong safety than Peppers is...however Pepp has his own unique skill set.)

You are gonna be surprised at how good Hudson is at safety.  Future NFL prospect for sure.

How about Sam McGuffie, did you see his HS highlights?!? Nobody has that skillset!

Please do not attempt to compare a HS kid's film to anyone in college. There is very little correlation and it's an aboslute waste of time.

Not saying Hudson is not good or is slow but I don't see scat back or even speed back when I watch his highlights.  Sure he is faster and quicker then Smith but that isn't saying much.  It would be nice if he proved me (and literally every single expert out there) wrong but he doesn't strike me as a once in a decade Jabril Peppers type.   Otherwise he would have have been a 5 star.  Most likely he plays special teams this year, gets some garbage time to help get him ready and hopefully he is able to contribute as a sophmore because we might need him with our S depth.

I will be surprised if Peppers doesn't get ten carries a game at least next year.  He is the one with the awesome skill set.  Hudson is impressive.  But Jabrill?  Pssht.

I think Kingston Davis will be the best RB we brought in in this class. I think he's wildly overlooked. He's an absolute load and Harbaugh/Wheatley will use him well.

I disagree. Davis is a much stronger runner than Green. He's what we wanted to get out of Green - huge RB who wouldn't go down. Unfortunately, Green went down by the slightest touch, and Davis looks like a bigger DeVeon Smith who won't stop his legs from moving for anything. Kingston Davis isn't outrunning Big Ten DBs, but he could get 7-8 yards a pop a la Carlos Hyde.

Where Have You Gone, Antonio Bass?

Regardless of whom Michigan fans consider to be the best running back on the 2016 roster, it seems likely that several of them will have the opportunity to play, just as several of them played in 2015. The key for me is keeping all of them healthy and satisfied with the amount of playing time they receive. . . . May they all succeed!

I agree with everyone here pretty much that this kid needs to be on defense in the Breezy hybrid role. I see big things for him on that side of the ball, and while it would be interesting to see him get some carries this year, I would rather him redshirt and be groomed for next season for life without Jabrill/Jourdan.

With our offensive line being a huge strength instead of a weakness, we do not have to put out our best athletes at RB. Deveon is a house. Drake Johnson was ruined by injuries, but looks as explosive/elusive as ever. I really think if he can stay healthy he will be the guy next season. LOVE KINGSTON DAVIS, classic Harbaugh recruit who refuses to be pidgeonholed to fullback. I think he has a chance to be very special. And why does everyone forget about Kareem? Early enrollee and has stated many times he refuses to be redshirted and will see the field next season. By the MSU game, I expect all 3 to be getting 20 touches a game, especially with the lack of a fullback on the roster. With that being said, Jimmy loves playing to the strengths of his team, and very well could let Jedd go bonkers and throw to the 3 headed NFL monster receiving core we have.

Gonna be a fun year regardless, and need to have Khaleke on defense getting about 5-10 touches a game on offense in 2017-beyond.
