Rashan Gary Visit
A scout writer reported that Rashan will not be taking any unofficial visits.
Rashan Gary's mother @RashanGary33 reports they will not take any unofficial visits this month. Only officials.

I think it is dumb that people automatically assume recruits take money or that Ole Miss offers everyone money.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:42 PM ^
The NCAA investigation into Ole Miss disagrees with you.
Oh and the fact that a random no name school from Mississippi suddenly started recruiting like Alabama doesn't surprise you?
January 10th, 2016 at 2:47 PM ^
No name school from Mississippi? You mean the University of Mississippi. Yes, it is questionable that Ole Miss is now a recruiting power, but I'm not going to assume they are dishing out cash for every recruit.
Some kids want to go to Oklahoma State over OU and UT, some probably want to go to Ole Miss over Bama.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:51 PM ^
Just those they need or think they need and it comes in many guises. Ask yourself this, how many other disadvantaged teens did Sean and Leigh Ann Tuohy adopt, tutor, and send to Ole Miss for their education? You know, kids that couldn't or didn't play football.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:55 PM ^
The Nkemdiches are the only players I'll let Ole Miss slide with because their father is a cardiologist at Ole Miss Medical Center and their mother is a Nigerian politician, so it would make sense for them to be at Ole Miss for proximity to their dad.
Everyone else (Tunsils, Treadwells etc) on the other hand just randomly decided to go to Ole Miss? Yeah no.
And yeah "no name" considering Ole Miss' claim to fame is vehement opposition to racial integration... That's about it.

Look, I can understand your suspicion. Yet, at this point, that's all you've got. If you have tangible evidence that Ole Miss coaches are cheating or that a bunch of recruits are cheating by accepting impermissible benefits there, please document it.
If you have no proof, it's just wrong to state that people on both sides of the equation are cheating.
For the record, those making disparaging comments about racial inequality in the South should grow up and get smart. It's 2016 and times have changed. There are bigots all over, to be sure, but not exclusive to the South. I would argue that, in my experience, there is more meaningful daily integration in the South than in the North, and I've lived in multiple locations in each locale.
Furthermore, by all accounts, Oxford, Mississippi is a lovely place, as is Ann Arbor, Athens, Georgia, etc. I can understand how someone might choose to live in these college towns.
Hugh Frieze may just be a helluva recruiter and coach. You may not like it, but it's really unfair to call him a cheater because you resent his success, without proof of his wrongdoing.
January 10th, 2016 at 4:28 PM ^
Actually, the story involving his father is rather suspicious as well. He was offered a job at Ole Miss during Nkemdiche's recruitment, he didn't have one there.

You mean like our DB transfer from Stanford and his mom who was added to the support staff??
Sometimes these types of things may, indeed, be fishy; sometimes not. Please elaborate, re: Mr. Patterson, as to what, specifically, is inappropriate.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:55 PM ^
but Ole Miss has for several years been reeling in very odd classes. An outlier here and there is normal, but having sway and signing 5* kids from out of state several years in a row is far too many outliers to be considered coincidence. I wasn't born yesterday Hugh Freeze
January 11th, 2016 at 11:33 AM ^
is a complete slime ball. Ole Miss comes out of nowhere and all of the sudden start battling the SEC's best for recruits. That crap doesn't happen overnight, and it doesn't happen without some BS going on. Ole Miss has very little tradition outside of Archie and Eli, so I just don't buy that he is not dirty.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:55 PM ^
January 10th, 2016 at 3:02 PM ^
My personal opinion is that Ole Miss is probably up to no good on the recruiting trail. However, if they were dishing out cash to more players than not wouldn't they have better classes than (8th 2013, 15th 2014 and 17th 2015 from 247's class rankings). If they are cheating might as well go all out right? Get Bamaesque classes.
I get that they have come out of nowhere with Hugh Freeze and it looks real bad.
January 10th, 2016 at 3:16 PM ^
I'm not so naive to believe that Ole Miss is the only school giving impermissible benefits nor am I naive enough to believe it never happens here but look at this
Generally every team is either a historic power or has had a great deal of success lately. Ole Miss is the huge outlier. They haven't even won their division in the SEC, much less sniffed a BCS bowl or the CFP
Rank | Team | |
---|---|---|
1 | LSU | 03, '07 champs |
2 | Michigan | Historic power |
3 | Ohio State | 14 champs; Historic Power |
4 | Florida State | 13 champs |
5 | Georgia | Historic power |
6 | Florida | 06, '08 champs |
7 | Ole Miss | ???? |
8 | Alabama | 09, '11, '12 champs |
9 | Notre Dame | Historic power |
10 | Auburn | 10 champs |
11 | Clemson | Recent success |
12 | Baylor | Recent success |
13 | Stanford | Recent success |
14 | MSU | Recent success |
15 | Penn State | Historic power |
It just seems like far too much of an outlier to me
January 10th, 2016 at 3:22 PM ^
Baylor started getting good in 2011-2012, around the same time as Ole Miss.
January 10th, 2016 at 3:34 PM ^
but Baylor has been much better than Ole Miss. They've been in the national title conversation for much of the last 5 years whereas Ole Miss' claim to fame is beating Alabama twice.
Wins in the last 5 years:
Baylor: 10, 8, 11, 11, 10
Ole Miss: 2, 7, 8, 9, 10
I get that Oxford is beautiful, but it remains very very odd to me
January 10th, 2016 at 3:32 PM ^
Baylor was a long standing door mat in the Southwest, along with TCU. Are Gary Patterson and Art Briles cheaters? Please...
You know, some people can recruit well and coach well and do it within the murky acceptable framework of present day NCAA rules.
Again, for all the posters accusing someone of cheating, be it a coach or player, please provide proof or stop.
I'm not so naive as to think it doesn't occur, but it's not fair to label someone as a cheater just because you feel like it.
January 10th, 2016 at 6:56 PM ^
January 10th, 2016 at 9:56 PM ^
Uh ... no.
A lot of people may THINK that they're cheating, but you and others don't KNOW it. There's a big difference. Again, if you've got the proof, let's see it. If not, baseless accusations should stop.
Only seems fair.

Maybe not "every" recruit. The 2-3 stars don't need to be bought
January 10th, 2016 at 3:59 PM ^
Only kids whose families are within easy drive of Oxford, MS or are legacy recruits would prefer Ole Miss to Bama - all things being "equal"... such as impermissable benefits!
Seriously, anyone who watched the Army AA game say about Shea Patterson: "Ole Miss, of course! That's where I'd go!"
January 10th, 2016 at 6:33 PM ^
Don't considerations such as competition and playing time enter into your rationale? Playing time is nearly always considered a big draw to recruits. Also, not everyone wants to join a stacked team with practically guaranteed success. I think some might appreciate competing against top level teams where they would have more of a chance to showcase their talent.

Those comments may be intended to insult Ole Miss, but they really insults Gary. Not a good look.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:33 PM ^
At this point, its more a meme than anything else. Similar to Oakland is still in play. Don't agree with it though. Ole Miss may play dirty, but I think the Garys can see through that.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:29 PM ^
This is not good news. Gary unofficialing to Michigan was big not only because the staff had another chance to impress upon him why Michigan is wonderful at Michigan, but also because Jordan Fuller was coming with him. It would have been great to have both New Jersey kids together and basically encourage each other to come to Michigan. Blah, go blue Mr. Gary!
January 10th, 2016 at 2:33 PM ^
He won't be visiting Ole Miss either. I would assume he has seen enough from his top group.
January 10th, 2016 at 2:30 PM ^
I'm thinking they meant additional unofficial visits. It seems unlikely they'd cancel a 3 day visit so suddenly.
