god, all the whining you are doing about the refs makes you sound like a state fan. was it a bad call at the end? maybe, maybe not. is that the reason we lost? NO. hell, stus airball and subsequently simms airball was far more detrimental, ime, since either of those shots could have put the game away. the end fuckin sucked, though, theres no use blaming the refs. this is just how its been going as a michigan fan.

The reason we lost wasn't because of the jersey grabbing non-call at the end. The reason we lost is because the guy (Lucas) who clearly should've been ejected in the first half not only got to stay in the game, but also hits the game winning shot.

Without being able to see his eyes, I'm sure he was paying more attention to the ball than to the players hands. I guarantee the jersey grab is not even attempted with a third ref in there.

Two things. First The lead(which the baseline ref is) would not be watching the ball. He has the action in the paint and inside the three point line. There is no way a big ten official is balling watching as we call it on that play. Second the foul would be on the ground and the ball would have been taken out under the hoop. Which would help Michigan but doesn't mean they win. Asking the officials to do two man for a mens big ten game is asking a lot. I could tell they were a bit rusty on their two man since they haven't done it in a long time. I feel they did the best they could with running two man in such a high level game. Being a offical and listening to people bitch about refs makes me laugh. Most of you have no idea what you are talking about. I don't mean to be a dick when I say that but it's the truth.

Man, looking at that screenshot . . . what a great play that was. In a last-second situation, we got Sims isolated on a small defender, with no one else within ten feet. Beilein could not have drawn it up better. Dammit.

with yourhands on your hips...your looking right at those two guys in the lane, right? Just exhale really fast right now.... Come on, you can do it....BLOW!!! No?!?!, your re-f'ing kidding me, right?? That loss was a punch right in the wrinkled sack.... Great effort by the boys though....

I thought he was easily grabbing his jersey. It was a harder shot than it looked. He was fading away from the basket. I hate the STATE schools. We had our chances, if Novak's stupid ass didn't run pass Lucas, he could of had a hand in his face on that game winning shot. Oh well, that would of helped out our tourney chances a lot. I guess the NIT is where we are supposed to be. Maybe we can get a few more wins against the upper B10 and sneak in. Long shot, but maybe!

I didn't have a problem with the lack of an intentional call on the Sims at half-court play. Heck, I was just glad a basketball coach finally realized that they should foul in that situation. I also had no problem with the way they handled the elbow. Call a foul and move on. Just like they should have with Manny last year. So let's leave that one alone too. I also wish we had SOMEONE on this team who could play above the rim in order to block shots, grab rebounds, and dunk. I love Sims and Harris does play like that to some extent, but Sims just seems to have cement shoes a lot. On that last play it would be nice if he could have gone up with more authority and forced them to make the call. Tough play - he nearly had it. Now, I hate bitching about the refs and these guys were short-handed. But when you're one-on-one, heading to the hoop, the game is on the line, you've beaten your man, and he grabs your jersey it does suck not to have a foul called. (I say this noting that he would have split the FTs and we lose in OT anyway.) The bigger problem with this team is that they are a jump shooting team who can't hit a jump shot. MSU plays great defense, but how can they not hit any shots?? I think they should sneak in at night and repaint the floor so the line is closer to the hoop because Douglas, Novak, and LLP are on the floor to hit jumpers and just are not capable of doing that. And you know what? I don't know how you fix it. Playing decent D, being scrappy, hustling, etc. only gets you so far. Sooner or later you have to hit a *$U&%$#*&$ shot!

Heck, I was just glad a basketball coach finally realized that they should foul in that situation. I actually thought that was a questionable move on Izzo's part. Yeah, it burned two seconds off the clock, but I'll take the ball at halfcourt and 1.5 seconds left over having to go the length of the court in 3.5. We most likely would not have gotten anywhere near as good a final shot off otherwise. If Sims had made the final shot, I'm sure reporters would have questioned Izzo on this.

What killed this team was the poor shot selection down the stretch, not the hold at the end of the game. It sucked to lose, but it was still an impressive showing for a mediocre team against one of the better teams in the nation.

One thing that I made a note to watch was the offensive rebounding on both sides. It seemed like MSU would always be following and attacking the rim for rebounds. Michigan, however, did not do that at all. Only person that I saw do this was Novak, who would go for it whenever he was around, but he can't always be around. It looked like they weren't even trying for them. It's just frustrating.

but Sims then pushed off. Would have been a lame call and certainly not why we lost. If our 3 "gunners" could shoot half as well as our center, we might have had a double digit victory.

If you are being held, you have the right to break free. The defender does not have the right to hold you in the first place. Having said that, I can't say I'm surprised they let it go, and DeShawn did still have a good shot opportunity.

First off let me just say that I am on the blog for Michigan football and am a Wisconsin Basketball fan (sorry I'm from Wisconsin). With that said I was at the gym watching the game without sound and I thought for sure that was a foul. In my unbiased opinion I thought it was a pretty easy call. I hate that games are officiated differently in the last minute.

I actually watched the game with my father, who went to MSU, and with like 1 minute left I started talking about how I HATE how if it's late in the game, a foul suddenly isn't a foul unless it's nearly flagrant. At the end of the game I just said, "...like that." A foul is a foul. Guaranteed they call a foul if it's not the last play of the game. I'm not just saying it because we lost on that play....it's just stupid.

Played their hearts out against an athletically superior team and left it all on the floor. Everyone should be proud of how resilient they played instead of naming 5 reasons they were prevented from winning. Unlike msu we should see a lot of positives in the loss and leave the meltdown to fan bases who can only be happy when a hated team loses and not their own teams play and success. Spoiler alert: I'm referring to a certain team to the west. Go blue!

As has been said many times in this thread - refs at any level are loathe to put someone on the line with the game in his hands with a second on the clock, unless a foul is so obvious they have no choice. You will consistently see a play like this go without a whistle, near unanimously. And look - if we could get ANYTHING out of people not named Harris and Sims, we would have won.
