Charles Woodson Retiring at the End of the Season
Sorry if already posted, but Charles Woodson just announced his retirement, effective at the end of the season. Awesome that he retires a surefire Hall of Famer but will be sad to not have him playing anymore. Maybe he can come be a special recruiting consultant for the football team?

I'm betting he will make time to be around. Congrats on an immortal career!

He's got all the stats and all the records to back it up.
It's too bad you can't measure intangibles (by definition), because he'd have a number of records in that category, too.

I love Charles Woodson.
1997 is one of the treasured years of my life for Michigan football and other things.
He is second to none amongst current active players in any sport.
But, Barry Sanders retiring is the only time a professional athlete retiring has ever caused me emotional distress.

I was embarassingly pissed. Not because it would hurt the Lions, I just wanted to see him beat Emmitt. It still hurts knowing the most overrated player of all time holds that record.

The fact that he just walked away from the record was the defining moment of his career, one of those guys for whom there truly was more to life than football.

I cried.
(Lot of Barry talk on the board today. I'm digging it)

Retiring in his prime I see...I can't blame him. Better to go out too early than too late.
December 21st, 2015 at 8:32 PM ^
Yeah, I would love to see him have a role with our football program. Great career, great man.

It is weird, but when those two are Charles Woodson and Tom Brady does it even matter? Easily two of the greatest to EVER play the game.

Congrats #2. We're all lucky to have witnessed the gifts he was given. He won the freakin' Heisman as a DB! Jimmy, get on the phone, stat!

I wish he could play forever. It's sad to see him go. But what a great example for all Michigan Men/Women in this world. An absolutely class act. Charles Woodson and people like him are the reason why Michigan is such a special place.
God Speed #2.

Well if any of our secondary coaches gets scooped up as a DC, I think we know where to look.

I love the way the head linesman emphatically signals the first down for Michigan. It's as though he's excited to have been a witness to something so incredible.
Some things never get old. Our grandkids will be playing that video for their grandkids one day.

His junior campaign was spectacular, especially against the Aggies and Bucknuts. Sadly the only time I saw him live was in Pasadena as my years of season tickets were '84-90. Still, he was prime and it was for our last Natty!!!

He looks like he has not aged . . . even a single year.
December 21st, 2015 at 10:15 PM ^
I think we can all agree he's aged. 1 year.
