Army-Navy Posbang Thread

Submitted by Jumpman Maize on
Mgoladies and gentlemen, it is officially the last week of the college football season with a regular season game. *sigh* However, said regular season game is perhaps the best of them all. Rather than ruining a faction of people's weekend, the Army-Navy game unites us. Everyone wins with Army-Navy. Thank you to all veterans and active duty members. POSBANGGGGG!!!!!

I fucking love this game. It's what college football is all about. I picked navy years ago because I wanted to root for someone so Go Navy! Beat Army!

Mainly picked navy because I seemed to always watch the navy/nd game so I figured why not pull for them twice a year

I've always rooted for the Navy because of my grandfather's service in WWII.  This year, though, I'm making an exception b/c a good friend in the Army got us tickets!  Definitely a sports bucket list sort of event, really excited to be going!

I'd love to see what a coach running the option offense could do with elite caliber athletes (as long as we wouldn't have to play them  because its so damn hard to defend)

especially considering that even great modern era teams running the system were largely using guys that outperformed the talent. Nebraska always had a good - great OL but only a guy or two a year that was NFL caliber. They also never had a great QB but a guy that ran well and played to the system where the emergence of true QBs that can run just in the last 15 years leaves many questions of possibility. They'd have a good HB but like the OL they'd either be great or merely fit/benefit from the system. WR was almost always random walk-on types. A powerhouse program at it's pinnacle of success recruiting the modern day athletes in that system? Scary. It would produce results that could drop 50 on any defense.

has elite talent though. If that's what you meant as reply to the post. He's talking about that system with top-5 recruiting classes every year. Not even Nebraska did that when b they were pretty much the lone major program still running it in the 90s. They'd load up on defense but the offense was mainly system guys with tons of walk-on and unheralded recruits next to the 1-3 guysv that could play in any system, anywhere.

It doesn't get better than this!! But let's be honest, we're all going to be watching just to see those bad ass Navy helmets!! Bless all our troops & happy posbang!

Usually root for Navy since I'm near Annapolis, but this year I'm rooting for Army.  The series used to be very even, but Navy has run away with it over the last decade-plus.  It needs to be brought back into balance.  Both teams work too hard for it not to.

BEAT ARMY WEST POINT! (still snickering) I was only a Lt. Cdr but my Brother in law was a Lt. Col so he outranks me. Still have had his number for 14 years. Love him as my brother in arms but......GO NAVY!

For one thing, over this stretch the Army has been completely occupied fighting a ground war, while the Navy has more or less enjoyed a normal operational existence (the Marine Corps excepted).  Plus Navy coaches have been a lot better.  When I taught at West Point in the mid-90's, we were the one with the devastating option attack.  You'd think that Army would commit to the ground game, after all!

I'm with you there. I need as much Michigan football news as possible during the offseason.

As soon as our class is official I will go through each commit's highlight tape & any other tape I can find on them. Really excited to see how the rest of this class comes together. Once all is said and done, Michigan could land the #1 class in the country.

we need to close with the very real possibilities we have at the top. I think the trajectory of the program needs it, that solid season where many thought we over achieved (myself included) capped off by getting that fax from those we have plus Gary and so on. We can't be the silver medal for those very top kids we have a shot at anymore. We land that top class and it's pure momentum. That's exactly how Saban and Carroll built the last true CFB dynasties - a solid but not necessarily amazing first year to build momentum and immediate talent. That draws other talent and if you keep the progress on the field going at Michigan? Michigan when it's winning? Watch out.

would definitely start, IMO. No question but I'm not sure he'd make a huge impact because I think the OL is the bigger issue. The OL we have right now just aren't that great in the run game and I doubt guys like Kalis finally "get it". We simply need fresh, better OL. I also think Gedeon is the only LB on the roster that will absolutely start and absolutely not be beaten out by any recruit or transfer. I'm not big on any LB we can realistically land being an immediate impact guy but the bodies and talent just aren't there to definitely keep them off the field. Walker starts due to being better than anything we have, LBs play a lot due to no other options. JMHO....

I always wondered what Air Force thinks of this game.

And why is there no Marines football team?  Because nobody would want to play them?
