Sparty Schadenfreude
After the fluke dropped punt loss to Sparty, all their close wins, and all their boasting about the lucky win, yesterday provided sweet karmic justice. Their reaction to the loss (Plaxico, Jamele Hill) is just further evidence of their little bro status and mentality.
With Harbaugh just starting to create his monster in Ann Arbor, and Urbz being Urbz in C-Bus, writing is on the wall for Sparty, especially with Cook leaving this year. Back to mediocrity and even more national irrelevance in the coming years.
I could not scour through enough RCMB last night, as the schadenfreude of not only their loss, but the way in which they lost (and attempts to distinguish it from their fluke win in Ann Arbor) made the tears that much more delicious.
Please share your favorite Sparty schadenfreude memes, posts, twitters, etc here below. I simply can not get enough, and I doubt TWIS will have all of the good stuff, as there is just too much right now.

The level of competition is what allows them to still have impressive win totals. They beat OSU once, and have taken advantage of what has been a down B1G. M and PSU were smoking craters last year. This may be a Yogi Berra take, but they won't lose 5 games until they play 5 teams that are better than them.

They play in a trash bowl stadium, facilities are meh, don't have the history or tradition of UM. UM as a school, Ann Arbor as a town, and Michigan football have always been more a more attractive destination for recruits looking to play big time college football.
The complete incompetence of UM coaching over the past decade allowed the Sparty rise. With Harbaugh in place, Sparty has nothing to sell except "recent success" and that ship is going to be righted very quickly with quality coaching.
The ebb and flow of sport and college football allow for deviations to the natural order, such as a nice 5-10 year run for programs like MSU, TCU, Baylor. Eventually, programs will regress to their historical mean...Sparty will be mediocre.

I guess my problem is that some fans still think things are going to revert back to the "good ol' days" where MSU was our rival that Michigan whipped up on. Nobody can predict what is going to happen in the future. Dantonio could very well stay there for the rest of his career. He's got it pretty good in EL.
Think of it this way, how many Spartans thought that Michigan in basketball would ever return to relevance? They probably saw last season as the beginning of the end of a nice little run under Beilein. Just like alot of comrades around these parts think this is the beginning of the end of Spartan football as we know it.
Enjoy their loss because that's what sports rivalries are about, but to quickly dismiss them is exactly what fuels them to be great.

The difference is Michigan basketball has proven that it can succeed alongside a highly successful MSU program and in the landscape of a very competitive Big Ten. MSU football has proven no such thing, and until they do it's fair to question whether they can.

I'm all for giving respect where respect is due, but how does any thinking person (let along a Michigan fan) determine that Sparty is deserving of respect? They've got a good quarterback, but even with that benefit, they've been squeaking out wins against all comers (even bottom-feeders) by the skin of their teeth, and with the assistance of creative refereeing.
Now they lose a game, and they come out frothing and harrumphing about bad calls, and unfair tweets, and boo hoo hoo. This deserves respect? If it were my toddler, I'd consider it a teachable moment. These are adults. I'll respect them when they're respectable.

You must know a lot of good Sparties. Sparties I know have been the same way forever. They had no respect for M, even before Dantonio. Just saying...

Exactly. Not only did I love it that they lost, it was priceless how they lost. Watching Dantonio get bent on the sidelines was pure enjoyment. It was also gratifying to see John O'Neil's crew make the controversial call to really shove it up their ass. I thought for sure the guy went out of bounds on his own but had so much confidence that this ref crew would get it wrong and call it a TD. It was awesome and we should be entitled to enjoy it however we please.

I hear you. True though. The difference is we will be done with this crap in a couple of weeks when we face our biggest rival. Them on the other hand cannot let it go the whole damn year.

Don't forget Plaxico shooting off his mouth as well (pun intended)
November 8th, 2015 at 4:46 PM ^
Those tweets were Grade A entertainment last night, and the only thing that concerns me now of course is whether or not Plaxico was mad enough to do something rash like injure the other leg or something along those lines. Also, there has been no word on how the NCAA (never mind the conferences that actually employ the officials) will be "excepting" resumes or how these resumes will be received once" excepted".
November 8th, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
Hey, everybody, @ncaa is hiring officials fresh off the kitchen table. Nobody is over qualified! Excepting all resumes!

I feel like I've heard this "back to medeocrity" for years now. What evidence have you had in the last decade that shows that MSU won't reload like they have in the past. That type of thinking is a little ridiculous.

What isn't wise is blindly expecting MSU to successfully replace all that they lose after this year just because. In fact, we've seen some of the replacements and they aren't pretty.

Not only does our #2 rival lose, but in doing so opens the door for us to control our own destiny. Of course we shouldn't be happy or "discuss". It must be the same 'you should respect Dantonio because he is the greatest coach of all time" crowd. Sparty is, was, and forever will be little brother.
Its probably generational. I fear alums who attended from 2007-2014 might need some re-programming. I think Harbaugh can get that job don,e too.
