Classic mistake... Can't tell you how many times that must've happened...

He knows his place in the order of things. Everything in its proper time...
October 19th, 2015 at 11:37 AM ^
Was going to make a joke about the secret service mistaking Dantonio's scowl for Richard Nixon and banning him from White House entry, but less is more, well done.
October 19th, 2015 at 1:32 PM ^
because it's for Higher Education Awareness.
Lower Education Awareness he's all over it.
October 19th, 2015 at 3:25 PM ^
Maybe he'll get an invite when it's for reintegrating criminals...into his lineup.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:19 AM ^
I didn't see the Dantonio head explodes part in the article.
The rest is pretty good though. Where else does a school get more press when they lose then Michigan?
October 19th, 2015 at 11:28 AM ^
And they're getting paid for a lot of their press (NBC).

There is press conference, it's just being held at the White House. Here's a snippet I picked up off of C-SPAN:
Q. This question is for President Obama. Mr. President, I understand that your daughter is looking into colleges. Does her search include any public schools?
A. A couple, and one of them is the University of Michigan. A fine institution, notwithstanding their heartbreaking loss in football the other night. I'm sure that Coach Harbaugh here will use that to continue to fuel the renaissance at Michigan and put the program in its rightful place.
Q. Has she looked at Michigan State?
A. What's a "Michigan State"?
October 19th, 2015 at 12:28 PM ^
Lol other than the fact that he has msu in his final 4 every year
October 19th, 2015 at 1:24 PM ^
IIRC there is usually no press conference the Monday of a bye week. The White House is another matter of course.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:21 AM ^
For Jim to recruit the DC area.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:22 AM ^
I find it hilarious that Sparty was using the #ReachHigher hashtag all week, and now Harbaugh is a part of Obama's "Reach Higher" initiative.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:23 AM ^
I'd rather not discuss that school anymore unless it's related to our spot in the B1G championship game or Rose Bowl.

me out here, on that note. I literally cannot stop thinking about the play. This is not worthy of a new thread but this one is not going very far so maybe I can use it for some quick therapy from MGoBlog counselors. I can't stop thinking about the play. I am a responsible parent of two with a good job and a good life, and a whole lot to do. I want to stop thinking about the play, and I would prefer that alcohol not be a part of it. I have slept a total of like 5 hours since Saturday at 7:30. There have been plays in the past that "stuck with me," but this is actually kind of severe. How long is this going to last. Will I be having visions of this play forever? Is it going to be my "birdman" for the rest of my life? NEED IT TO GO AWAY.
/end mental illness rant.

See the thread on counting blessings.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:36 AM ^
I feel your pain. This morning at 12:30 AM I woke up out of a dead sleep thinking about that play and with a massive headache. I have never had that happen before, and I couldn't fall back asleep for over an hour. Not a good start to the week.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:38 AM ^
Talk it out.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:41 AM ^
my fault, right, Sean? It's not my fault. It's not my fault.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:42 AM ^
Sparty got lucky, that's all. I'm already over it.
When was the last time Michigan held a lead over MSU going into the 4th quarter? It's been years, I'm fairly certain of that. We were a moment away from beating a top (10) ranked team - how often has that happened since '07? not often, I assure you.
Compare this season how badly the team played last year.
My point being this team is on the upswing and there's no stopping it. We're going to crush Minnesota in two weeks. I'm starting to feel sorry for them already.
I'm 95% sure of going 4-0 over the next 4 games and then we'll have Ohio, and we'll see what happens then. Again, compare this level of confidence to how things were last year.
Things are looking up, even with that disastrous last play Saturday night.

is the thing - I don't think I quite care as much as my mental predicament would indicate. It is like a record is skipping. Like, you know how your default thought might be like "I'm hungry" or "I can't wait to get out of work" or some variation of mundane thought? My default thought is that play, the drop, McDonaugh's call of the play, the stunned fans, etc. It is actually quite mentally exhausting. I feel like I am over it. I just can't stop thinking about it.

You are being consumed with the unfairness of it all, and that's why it is interrupting your sleep. Even if you can get distracted during the day, at night your brain replays it to try and "solve" the problem (that's my unscientific theory and I'm sticking with it). It was easier today than yesterday, even with being taunted at work. The Sparties were so nervous about losing beforehand, it multiplied the obnoxiousness level afterwards.
For therapy, read, read, read this blog. Good content is good content, plus you can vent about sparty all you want here without it affecting your family or your employment.
October 19th, 2015 at 2:50 PM ^
you go. That is what I feel like I am trying to do, like if I think about it enough, I can "figure it out." Or I can make it make sense. Brian wrote Act of God as the title to his review, but why would God want that? Like, from the very beginning of the game - why was it called that way? Why did the refs not reverse the calls? Why did we not get any "make up" calls to attempt to off-set the absolute atrocity that was taking place? Why did the 5000 things in a row go wrong that had to go wrong? Even when we leading the game I felt the unmistakable pull of impending doom the entire time.

Harbaugh won’t be ducking the media after a heartbreaking loss to Michigan State in the final seconds of the game Saturday at Michigan Stadium.
Of course he won't. Harbaugh doesn't duck; things duck him.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:42 AM ^
"Harbaugh won’t be ducking the media after a heartbreaking loss to Michigan State in the final seconds of the game Saturday at Michigan Stadium. He is expected to talk to reporters at the White House after the event."
Is he actually going to talk about Michigan Football @ the White House? If so, pretty damn cool.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:33 AM ^
Also look at the comments on the NYT article. Sparty can't handle the fact that even a decent Michigan team that lost to MSU is significantly more relevant than MSU will ever be. Michigan likely had more articles written about it in significant news sources this year than MSU has had in their decade long run of a modicum of success. Simply put, Michigan is more relevant than MSU will ever be. Including our athletics, academics, adminstrators, and alums. Michigan State is simply a second (or third) rate university with no national relevance in any field (except couch burning and STD rates).

I'm all for having some fun with respect to sports, but this is absurd.
Sports aside, MSU is an excellent university. They have national relevance in several fields, including veterinary science, agricultural engineering, high energy physics, and supply chain management. The combination of UM and MSU forms the anchor of an outstanding higher education establishment in the state of Michigan.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:57 AM ^
Perhaps "tier" would have been a more appropriate word. I do not think MSU has much of a national relevance though. I have lived all over the US east of the Mississippi and very few people know much about MSU. Honestly. No one knows where it is located or what it specializes in. No eyebrows are raised at the mention of MSU. The same is not true of UM. Granted, UM is not MIT either, but certainly has far more national relevance than MSU. MSU may be regionally relevant, but certainly has no national appeal.
This is best exemplified by the students attending the schools. How many students from NY, CA, GA, FL, TX attend MSU? How many attend UM? What kind of international reputation does MSU have? What about UM? They are simply in a different class.
October 19th, 2015 at 12:22 PM ^
"The same is not true of UM. Granted, UM is not MIT either"
Academically, you're 100% correct. But, there is no better University in the world that has a better blend of academics, athletics, research & alumni base than the University of Michigan. It is, bar none - the most well-rounded University in the world.
October 19th, 2015 at 12:26 PM ^
You are right, while it was pointed out that staee has several good departments, they are just not nationally relevant academically overall. How many surveys have we seen where overall, they are a good second tier school, just a fact.

Well said, DonAZ.

and we almost have an intersting thread.
I don't care about Dantonio's reaction to anything. He's not our coach

You know, I actually chuckled a bit - while Jim Harbaugh, even coming off a loss, gets to speak about higher education and even answer some questions from the national media at the White House, some of which will undoubted be about the game, Mark Dantonio gets.....Joe Rexrode and other MSU beat writers?
October 19th, 2015 at 12:22 PM ^
Dantonio did have a national interview today, on the "Tiki & Tierney Show" on Fox Sports radio. He got salty with the interviewer (Brandon Tierney, frmly of WDFN Detroit) when asked if he prefers the rivalry when Michigan is an elite program again. Dantonio responded with 'Is that a serious question?'; the host repeated it and then asked if there was a point where Dantonio thought he resigned himself to the loss. Mork clammed up and went into coach speak mode. the interview did not last much longer.

over the others. Especially on Thursday when the special is turkey and stuffing. Damn good turkey and stuffing and hearing Harbaugh to boot? Beats a stuffy UN or Hague any day of the week.
