I saw it brought up yesterday during the game. Tweet said something to the effect of, "If I'm a Dolphins fan, I'm very mad about the fact that Ross encouraged Harbaugh to go back to Michigan instead of trying to lure him to the Dolphins."

Like, imagine you're a Dolphins fan and that's the main team you care about, and you hear your owner isn't interested in trying to poach the best coach in football from his alma mater. Wouldn't that kind of enrage you that he wouldn't even TRY?

I mean, we all know that Harbaugh's not going, but if you're a guy sitting in Dade county desperate to see your favorite team not be shit (which is the perspective Simmons writes from, he doesn't claim to be a NFL reporter or have HOT SOURCES) I could see that being a thing that really makes you mad.

If I was an NFL fan of a hopelessly bad team, I'd be real mad if my team didn't at least make Harbaugh turn them down.

Didn't take long at all:

Jim Harbaugh: Ross denied back in March that he had courted Harbaugh once the latter left the 49ers. Ross's presence at the University of Michigan—he donated $200 million to the eponymous business school—makes it almost unfathomable to believe he would ask Harbaugh to leave Ann Arbor after just one year on the job there. Count on hearing the suggestion, though.

He "steered" Harbaugh to Michigan over taking a run at him for the Dolphins. I mean if we go by the schedule that John U set up that's not possible but it is still pretty entertaining to read.

All those guys - consciously or subconsciously - assume the college game is automatically inferior to the NFL and its just a proving ground for guys just waiting for the call to the big leagues.

I think the meddling execs and short tenures make the NFL fairly unattractive. Way harder to keep your job at that level

Looks the John U was pretty quick to set the record straight.

@BillSimmons Happy to send you a copy of ENDZONE, NYT Bestseller, about how Harbaugh didn't wait for any NFL offers before picking UM.

@BillSimmons To be clear, the offer of a complimentary copy of ENDZONE is sincere, with zero smart-assery. Honest. Happy to send you one.

Ross should use his position as an NFL owner to hire important coaches from Michigan's upcoming opponents. Their interm HC should be our old friend mfosu DC Luke Fickell.

Why isn't Urban's name ever come up for NFL coaching jobs? I think he's very likely to be an excellent NFL head coach. Is it the spread system or something else? Just curious.

I bet Mora is a candidate. He's been very successful at UCLA and seems like an NFL guy at heart (and since he isn't a UCLA alum, he doesn't have the emotional connection to the school that Harbaugh has here). A lot of people have assumed he's basically auditioning for a return to the NFL, a la Pete Carroll. And it certainly worked out in that case.
