College Gameday for Northwestern?
So obviously we have to take care of business against Maryland next weekend, but I'm thinking there's a pretty good chance Colege Gameday will be heading to Ann Arbor for our showdown with Northwestern. NW will likely be around 12-15 range and Michigan in the 20-25. Now normally this wouldn't be worthy of gameday, but the week 6 slate is complete crap. Only competition I can see is: LSU at unranked South Carolina and #24 Oklahoma State against WVU who will probaly be ranked by week 6.
Michigan vs. MSU is also a real possibility if Gameday picks some random school. (which I'd totally be ok with since gameday is something I have no intention of attending)

What's the SEC slate that weekend? GameDay had a great line this morning, not sure if anyone else heard them, but it was something like: "Well, with the SEC stumbling a little bit, the rest of the nation might be able to catch up and get a little attention!"

Not good.
Clemson/Georgia Tech (who lost today) and ND/Navy are probably the biggest games. FSU/Miami are Texas/OU are that weekend as well - so they have rivalry games.
I think they'll go to ND/Navy that weekend and be in A2 the following weekend when we play MSU.

Considering how Texas is playing, they might need some new rivals like the local community colleges. Patterson may be gone, but the woefulness has not.

They should be here for gameday. MSU will be top 3 and we could be hovering around 15. No way they'd pass that up considering it would be Harbaugh's first major/rivalry test. Then again, I don't know the slate for that week. I don't think they'll pick us and NW because NW isn't enough of a draw. They'd probably pick LSU and SC.

Other big games the weekend of the MSU game:
USC at ND
WVU at Baylor
Missouri at Georgia
Alabama at Texas A&M
Florida at LSU
If they both win out to that week, I think USC/ND is a lock. But UM-MSU has a shot, at least.

Gameday is at Clemson for Notre Dame next weekend. Doubt they would cover a ND on back-to-back weekends, so ND-US is out. That Bama Texas A&M game could be a top 10'ish matchup. But it'll likely be the CBS game so maybe they skip that. And they also already did a Bama game this season.
Florida-LSU could be a good one too. And it could be an ESPN game.
Tough to top MSU-Michigan though provided we get past NW and Maryland.
September 26th, 2015 at 10:45 PM ^
The only way we would beat USC/ND that weekend would be a 1v2 and that obviously isnt happening.

I think we win out to that game and THROUGH that game. Ohio State did not look great today and we beat the #22 team in the country by 31!
September 26th, 2015 at 9:34 PM ^
Week four rankings mean virtually nothing. If we win out throught the MSU game (very possible), then lets talk.
September 26th, 2015 at 10:33 PM ^
But still, Michigan was impressive as shit.

BSU up 3 and with the ball inside NU's 5. Plus, they are getting beat up. They have Minny next week as well.

1-loss team will start jumping them before long.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:00 PM ^
Because MSU is the next weekend...and a much better national game.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:05 PM ^
Alabama at Texas A&M and USC at Notre dame would be the likely alternatives for that week. I would much rather the hype come for the MSU game than NW. It's just an odd situation where the NW week has so few quality games.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:35 PM ^
I doubt they'd go to USC @ ND, given that NBC has broadcasting rights for the game itself.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:38 PM ^
@USC they would do, but not @ ND.

And USC v. Notre Dame was on FS1 last year

This would be a good week for them to go to Jacksonville St or Coastal Carolina or North Dakota St...again.

If Northwestern wins up to then they will have two great wins and an impressive record; we will have wins over BYU and some scrubs. By ranking it might wind up being the most attractive top 25 matchup, but it's not that great. Oklahoma -Texas might be more interesting on a national level, among other games that feature at least one team that is oh-so-close to making it a great matchup.
A week like that is a prime week for one of Gameday's "alternate" locations, where they go to a lesser known spot. And, FWIW, I think it's awesome that they do that.

I would by SHOCKED if this happened. Not to mention ans Mr. Yost pointed out, MSU-UM the following week is far more likely.

But I didn't neg you. I think we'll be ranked tomorrow. BYU was no cupcake, it's had one of the toughest schedules albeit with some bloody hail mary's. We're a top 25 CFL team. Sportswriters, coaches and computers can smell what we've stepped in with Harbaugh & Co. and it's SWEET PERFUME. Everybody wants Michigan to be back, even our rivals.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:30 PM ^
I am not saying we shouldn't be ranked, just that I don't think it will happen until we beat Northwestern.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:32 PM ^
We beat them 31-0. The voters usually reward big wins like that as Ole Miss went from like 15 to 3 in one week. I think we'd be somewhere around 23rd.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:33 PM ^
A #22 teeam with the hardest schedule in the country and we beat them by 31 and shut them out. Not ranking Michigan in the top 25 would be unbelievably disrespectful. If they aren't ranked, I hope the team feeds off that disrespect for the remainder of the season. None of the national media and talking heads believed in this team, and look what they are showing them! So proud of this team and they deserve respect.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:37 PM ^
Not sure why the national media should have respected Michigan more than the majority of Michigan fans who were predicting no better than 8-4 and a distinct possiblity of 6-6.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:46 PM ^
If Utah should pull an upset or even play #13 Oregon close there is no way we won't be rated and probably in the mid to high teens.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:52 PM ^
UCLA is putting on Arizona now (42-14 and it's not even halftime) it's safe to say that we will be ranked.

September 26th, 2015 at 9:36 PM ^
Then.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:13 PM ^
Not with UM-MSU on the immediate horizon, and UM-OSU in November. Northwestern has no national juice anyhow—no one really care much about them outside the BIG.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:17 PM ^
just saying. NU has been on the short end of the stick for years with pretty decent teams and coach.

The MSU game is a much better game and they're not coming here for two straight weeks.

If Michigan runs the table, do we have a good shot at the playoffs? TCU and Baylor both look lackluster, I think we can count the Big 12 out yet again. Assuming OSU's only loss is to us and we win the Big Ten Championship game, I think they are out as well. ND throws a wrench into things. Oregon is out via the MSU < UM win. LSU doesn't have a QB worth spit. FSU worries me because the ACC is hot garbage. Though the ND Clemson game should rule out at least one of them.
Overall, I think we have a great shot!
September 26th, 2015 at 9:32 PM ^
If we beat MSU & chumps from Columbus...we'll be in the playoffs
September 26th, 2015 at 9:37 PM ^
If we run the table, we're in by default.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:39 PM ^
Do we always have to deal in extremes? I'm pretty happy about the win but everyone who's talking playoffs now needs to chill out/sober up. Let's take it game by game.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:41 PM ^
What are you saying, to stop drinking and go to bed?
September 26th, 2015 at 9:44 PM ^
I'm just calling it like I see it. I don't see a team in the country that would consistently beat this team. It's a travesty rankings are based on record and not actual performance. OSU has done NOTHING and is still ranked #1. That HUGE game against VT? Yeah, they got blown out by ECU today. OSU is trash, their QB play is garbage, the coaching is miserable, and they can't put teams away.
