Jim Minick arrest video released
The Freep released the arrest video of Jim Minick. I was expecting a lot worse after it was being reported that Jim was "fall down drunk". A whole lot of nothing until the end of the video when Jim refuses the breathalyzer. The cop told him if he refused it would result in a civil infraction. My guess is Jim didn't know the automatic suspension and whatnot that went along with it.
Feel free to delete, as I know this topic has been already been debated a lot. Figured I'd post incase anyone was interested.
EDIT: As much as I hate to link to the Freep, embed is being goofy. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/wolverines/2015/07/21/jim-minick-arrest-video-michigan/30468363/
Cops: the original reality TV show
that's a $250 fine.
the 1 year suspension is if you refuse the test at the station, called the DMT.
Isn't that also a breathalyzer? I thought MInick was going to get his blood drawn?
that are given. the first one that is offered at the scene is what is called a PBT, the acronym for 'preliminary breath test'. it uses the old fuel cell technology and is not as accurate. it is also not admissible in court except if the defendant offers what is called a 'rising blood alcohol defense', meaning a defense that says i may have been over the limit when i got to the station, but when i was actually driving i was under an .08. thus, if the PBT was over an .08 then the prosecutor can seek to enter that into evidence. and as mentioned, if you refuse the PBT its a civil infraction and a $250 or $275 fine.
the second test is the one given at the station on a machine called a DMT. it looks like this:
under michigan's implied consent law we are all presumed to have consented to give a test if we have been arrested for a DUI. they read you your chemical test rights and are asked if you consent to the test. decades ago a refusal might help you get out of a test but nowadays they get a warrant in literally minutes and you end up getting your blood taken by a vampire. so not only is the refusal not going to help you, it's also going to get your license pulled for a year.
Got it. Thanks.
Thanks for the clarification Xtra
yeah. This was pretty boring. Also pretty representitive of about 95% of all DUI/OWI arrests that are made, most likely
I heard a RUUUUUMOR!! Mexican werewolves are coming up from Mexico..and selling Crack.
"The portion above covers the 15 minutes Minick and Pittsfield Township Police Officer Robert Cole waited to administer a preliminary breath test. The 15-minute window was necessitated by Minick having chewing tobacco in his mouth when he was pulled over."
This sentence... Ugh. Two bad decisions at once. When are people going to figure out that chewing tobacco pretty much makes your mouth fall off your face? Every time I see Harbaugh with a huge wad in his lip...
....to each his own. I know plenty of people who have chewed tobacco for a long time and mouths are still attached to their faces.
I certainly don't condone it, but the difference in severity between dipping (something that physically harms only the person who does it) and drunk driving (something that puts everyone in the proximity of the offender) are not even close to comparable.
Uh, where did I compare the two?
First they said chewing tobacco causes oral cancer, and I didn't say anything because I didn't chew tobacco.
Then they arrested all the communists, and I didn't say anything because I wasn't a communist.
Then they sheared all the sheep, and I didn't say anything because I wasn't a sheep.
And, anyway, I'm sure you can see where this is going...
You know who else didn't chew tobacco and wasn't a communist or sheep?
Hitler.
Just sayin'...
Invoking Godwin's Law without arguing... nicely done.
...around June of 1941.
Never thought I'd have to invoke Godwin's Law on this blog, but...there ya go.
I don't understand why people do it either but it's a free country and you should be able to do what you want as long as you're not harming other people.
I'm glad we are all in agreement that I should be allowed to continue my bad habit.
If you've never eaten fast food, ridden a motorcycle, or left the safety of your own home, only then can you be so self righteous.
Provide me with a run down of what you did in the last 24 hours and I bet I can find a half dozen instances where I can say you've made a "bad decision.
In closing, the world is full of so many dangerous things that I am happy allowing each indivual the opportunity to weigh those risks and decide for themselves.
This is true. I know someone who went in not smoking and came back a smoker. He said it was just something he picked up to pass the time.
The same is true for anyone who works on a fishing boat. It seems like at least 80% of the deckhands I have come across are smokers or dip.
It's largely a culture thing. The military is huge on dip; no other group that I've met has had such a high proportion of users.
disclaimer: I don't hang around southern people much.
I think that' the only new thing I learned from the video -- that he's a tobacco user. Of course, he has the right to be a tobacco user, but I don't think that's a good habit for a role model.
Some tobacco user negged me.
The Alexis Frulling video? Great gal.
1. I hope you are being literal and there's not some assinine double standard in your post.
2. Political posts will get political answers. Dont post political stuff.

Obviously.
Hopefully, there is nothing left for them to "drip feed" the media and public and this shit can all be over.
This shows that the media will try to sensationalize anything with Harbaugh's Michigan whether good or bad. Doesn't look anything like the stories of him being out of control and screaming at people. Some people on here rush to judgement and others wait for the facts to come out. I think he should be suspended and not let go since he's never done anything like this before in his life.
The media isn't "sensationalizing" this at all, the guy did something stupid and deserves all of the negative attention.
Ever do something stupid, hurtful to others or pets, or illegal in your life? Sure you have. You are lucky there were no cameras on you when you did it. Of course...no one would give a shit to see that video, because you are not notable as a person.
I'm sorry, are you implying that because he was in the Armed Forces he deserves immunity from criticism for drinking and driving? Because, if so, that is the pinnacle of asinine reasoning.
Besides, he's been treated excellently; both by the police in this video and by his employer. Nobody is saying he's Satan, but the guy is not innocent. Period.
