Sparty deal with Nike: $34 million over 10 years

Submitted by wolverine1987 on

Signed last summer. I guess all the walmart wolverines they like to talk about are worth some actual money, maybe they should get some of their own.

This is another testament to the power of yes, the Michigan brand. If it was all about football and b-ball success recently, you would not see this huge discrepency in fee.

Let me put it to you like this

Image searching Leo and Michigan State only gave me more picutres of him in a Michigan hat

I agree the season can't start fast enough. This stuff is amusing though, especially if you know what thte delusional flock of their fanbase expected.

I live in the DC area.  Everybody here is from somewhere else.

The area is a good barometer of which colloege programs are hot across the nation.  When Texas was hot a few years ago, you would see a lot of Texas stuff.  You see some Oregon stuff here and there.  You even see some Ohio State stuff over the last 5 years or so.

Schools like Michigan and UNC are perennials.  What separates them from the schools above is that you only see the schools above when they are winning big.  I don't see all that Texas stuff any more.  If OSU falls off, you won't see any Buckeye stuff.  But I still see a lot of Michigan at all times.

One thing that is a constant:  I never see any Michigan State stuff.  Never.

Nike is not a charity.  They are going to put there money where they are going to get a return . . . where there is national interest.

just came back from DC during a vacation.  I wore my M gear everywhere and received several "Go Blue's".  There were several people with UNC gear along with Maryland.

I struck up a conversation on the Shady Grove Red Line with a MD Grad wearing (whatever you call it).  He was happy to join the Big Ten.  He asked me to explain the rivalry with OSU. Then he asked, "What up with MSU?"  I had nothing.

The best "Go Blue" was at Arlington National Cemetary.  An older Veteran was there with his family, presumably picking out his gravesite.  This one brought a tear to my eye.

I lost like 20 quarter flips and had to pay an entire $250 bar tab of shots at Mighty Pint's quarter you call it Thursday. I was in utter shock and kept ordering more to prove a point. My friends were happy I kept ordering drinks. It wasn't rigged either because people next to me kept winning and getting free drinks.

The most B1G gear I would see was PSU. Then Michigan. I saw quite a bit of OSU but I might have been looking more closely. And in suppprt of your argument we had a Final Four and a MNC during that period and was in another. I recall seeing more ACC/Big East stuff than B1G and more B1G than SEC. And of course way more pro than college gear.

I couldn't give two shits about our apparel deal compared to spartys, of course there's is going to be less, Michigan is a world-wide brand, we all know that, everyone knows it, threads like this, IMO, come across as us trying to find anything over MSU, when the ONLY thing any of us SHOULD care about is victory.

We're talking about the relative health of the two programs, not the specifics of Little bro's shoe contract. Yea, beat them on the field, whatever, but its nice to know given the little lul over the past decade where we really stand (front of the line) and where they stand (can't see them all the way back there).

Those of us who live out of state had a pretty good idea about this. I think in staters don't have that same perspective and maybe think State matters more than they do.

Beating them on the field is a little more important that a "whatever." I think that's the problem some have with the attitude in this thread. There seems to be a lot of celebrating and chest-puffing over everything NOT related to on-field results.

So time totally resets on coaching changes. Good to know, even though I saw OSU fans and MSU fans chided by your kind for pulling the same trick of only measuring results after the arrivals of Tressel and Dantonio.

That's the line MSU's more animalistic fans use to justify their UM obsession: "It's a rivalry."

Sorry, logic and consistency are always going to be more important to some people than rah-rah shit. I root for wins on the field and the court, not so much in the boardroom. This news tells me Michigan has more fans than Michigan State. That really isn't any type of "news" at all.

You sound like you have a really fun time being a Michigan fan, only having fun if Michigan wins. Since we can't really win on the field right now, why don't you just stop coming onto MgoBlog? I mean, since this obviously a rah-rah shit type of post and there are no games being played, there is no reason to check the board. And if your stance is that only when you win you get to talk shit, then no team in America other than Ohio State gets to have a message board this offseason. Sounds awesome

Oh piss off, you bitter ass. You tell people how to act as much as anyone here and never appear to be "having fun." And you're still obsessed with me. Just pitiful.

Kinda funny that all Nike did there was give MSU Baylor's leftover jerseys then put a sparty logo on them and call them Pro Combat. Nike's Pro Combat unis are usually pretty sweet though. I expect they'll put forth much greater effort with ours.
