Devery Hamilton OT announcing College at 3:45; UM, Stanford, MD
Offensive Tackle Devery Hamilton, from Maryland (Gilman HS) will be announcing his college selection today between 3:30 and 5. He is down to Stanford (the preceived favorite), Maryland and Michigan. Michigan has been getting quite a few ballz selections.
Would be another great piece to the O-Line Drevno and JH are building:
Hamilton-Onwenu-Bredeson-Davis-Swenson
Update: Selection time 3:45-4...
FWIW, the Michigan insiders at 247 have picked Michigan.
gets off the Lodge... starts driving normally.
You were reading a recruiting thread while on the Lodge in all of its shoulderless glory? You are a brave soul, sir. Very impressive. Now, the real question - have you ever done that on I-696 between about Southfield and Madison Heights at, say, 4 PM?
as you wouldn't be going anywhere.
It's the last OT spot. We are also taking another OG - likely Davis.
Pretty sure Davis is a silent, but he wants to take his OVs. He has an OV scheduled for UCLA, which I wouldn't want to miss either - In N' Out and watching Diddy beat up on the coaches... Sounds like a fun trip!

Seems like timeline moved up relatively quickly... Lorenz reported next week, and then an hour later it was going to happen today from 3:30-5. Only thing I really saw was Sam's article of his top 2 from May being Michigan and Stanford.
My crystal maple leaf is in for Devery Hamilton to Michigan!

After yesterday's post, I hope Coach doesn't do the whole "stop communicating" bit. We may have 20 commits by today. I know there is some attrition coming and some guys may leave. I still think there could be an issue if we are taking the commitments from all the low end guys and if we get better players they are told to look elsewhere.
However, if these kids know the situation then I think it is acceptable. That is why kids should be allowed to always take other visits even if we fans do not like it. Hoke's policy was dumb to me, but if he honored every commitment 100% then the policy wasn't that unreasonable.
My take on this is - look, we'll have to see what happens, but Harbaugh seems to know what he wants and at this point, I would have to imagine that they know that their scholarship numbers are getting tight so they wouldn't be taking commits that they don't want. It seems like a stretch to think otherwise. It's like yield protection strategies that colleges and grad schools employ.
I agree to an extent. However, is it safe to say the cap will be around 25 for this class? I know we won't get all of these guys but I believe we are still in the running for:
- Rashan Gary
- Caleb Kelly
- EJ Price
- Jack Jones
- Terrance Davis
- Ahmir Mitchell
- Naseir Upshur
- Khalid Kareem
- Brad Hawkins
- Ron Johnson
- Devin Bush
- Johnathan Jones
- Tony Butler
- Donald Stewart
- Other guys probably not but who knows (Lavert Hill, Des Fitzpatrick, Daelin Hayes)
I am not sure. That is why I brought it up. I know there are rumored medicals from the OL and with normal coaching change/playing time/5th year guy attrition it still doesn't add up to me. I know it will play out and some of our commits will not be in the class on NSD, but of that list we are favored for at least half or close to half.
I believe the cap is 28, so at most you can take another 10. Lots of Michigan fans are hoping beyond hope that we get all of our elite targets, but that would be unlikely.
You know how the game is played, we'll come in second for a lot of top recruits on signing day, and we'll be happy with a top 25 class.
... which is a good result. People just need to stop having unrealistic expectations.
I think the B1G cap is 28 (because you can back-date 3 to last year - and last year our class was tiny). Either way, most of those guys are elite guys, so you have to assume we only end up with half (but we can always hope for better, etc.).
At least 10 of the kids on that list are really realistic.
Not to mention K Quinn Nordin and Devery Hamilton
Some of the current commits won't be in the class on NSD.
There will be kids that signed because we were their best option among the offers they had at the time. They were also excited at the camps and jumped on the offer. After some time they will be rethinking some points that are important to them, i.e. distance, weather, fit, major, etc. Committing to UM early is getting these kids higher rankings on some sites, more notoriety and possibly more good offers. In the end, if they are told to look elsewhere it won't be the end of the world for them. Certainly not good form on Harbaughs behalf if it is the case.
We will end up around 22-25 commits, a top 15 class and all needs should be met. How? I have no idea. I guess we have to trust those that are more plugged into the program. Part of me feels like "what is Harbaugh doing?" so I need to remind myself that I'm a nobody and just go with the flow.
I think that is where I am at:

Get those Bonjour posts ready!
He's talking about Dez's dad being in a good sitcom tonight!
Good athlete for the position. Could play OT or OG, similar to Bredeson, because he moves well. I like his length, and I think he has the skill set and build of an eventual RT, where I think his upside is highest, but has the feet where he could really play any position along the OL.
Could also move over to the other side of the ball and be a pretty decent interior DT if the OL doesn't work out (he has to learn about pad level, as cliche as it is, and basic techniques, but technique is often easier to come by than OL; he's also pretty raw from a technique standpoint on OL, which is normal for high school kids) because he's a good enough athlete to push the pocket and chase.
Would obviously be a really nice addition to the OL class, and along with the group that's in the fold and presumably Davis, it's a group that could fit multiple positions to all find a spot along the OL (Swenson is an OT, Bredeson and Hamilton could fit OT/OG, Davis and Onwenu are interior OL; Hamilton and Onwenu could both potentially flip to defense as well).
you're saying we ought to buckle up?
Did I just watch someone die?

Stay buckled up my friends.
Weird. One site says he's all Michigan and the other says he's all Stanford. Who do I trust more?

Onwenu seems pretty comfortable with Drevno already.
