OT: Who Ya Got for the NBA Finals?

Submitted by BornSinner on

We got 2 Rookie head coaches, Lebron's redemption story and the Splash Bros featuring Riley Curry.

This is actually an interesting match up b/c this series seems pretty wide open to me. I would think the Warriors would win due to their depth, but Lebron n co have been playing on another level since Love went down.

Seeing MGrowOld not be a miserable Cleveland sports fan for once on this board would be quite refreshing too...

And then we got the gif representing what happened to James Harden last game after he set the NBA record for most turnovers in a postseason game at 13.

The Based God/Lil B curse is real folks.

Warriors in 5.

I'm biased because I hate Cleveland but I think GS matches up way better against the Cavs than vice versa. If they get good defense from Green and Thompson finds his stroke this series is theirs for the taking.

It's going to get pretty ugly if Cleveland doesn't figure out how to score effectively.  GSW is just a juggernaut right now, and unlesss we're going back to 2006 I don't see LeBron being able to pull a Wade-type performance and just foul shot his way to victory.  Hell, Harden tried that a bit and Houston won one game.

Curry and Thompson make it so hard to shut down that offense, and I don't see the Cavs having enough to keep up.  They might win a game because LeBron is the best player in the world, but it won't be enough.  GSW in 5.

The Warriors are more equipped to guard Lebron than any other team save for maybe the Spurs, with Klay, Iguodala, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes all available to throw at him. Lebron's unstoppable when he's on; he and Kyrie will get theirs. But there's no one on CLE who can guard Steph Curry, and the disparity in depth between the two sides is laughable. I think we're looking at something like last year's finals, where it's basically just Lebron vs. a clearly superior side, and I think the results will be similar.

Irving's health will play a major role in this series. He better be ready to go having to guard Curry. GS has so many bodies to throw at Lebron like Green,Barnes,Iguodala,Livingston,& Thompson. Not saying anyone can stop him but that's plenty bodies and fouls to go around. TT and Bogut cancel each other out. Delladova should get worked by whoever he has to guard. JR Smith and Shumpert have to be huge for the Cavs. At the end, too much firepower and depth for the Cavs. Splash Bros go wild and benefit from a game 7 in Oracle arena.

Gotta go with the Warriors. They're just such a complete team from top to bottom to go along with their two star players. OTOH, the Cavs are almost fully dependent on LeBron at this point, considering Love is out and Irving is banged up.

So my guess is Golden State in 6, with the biggest difference maker being that LeBron ends up having one, maybe two games without downright stellar performances.

Actually kinda nice not feeling entirely apathetic this year. There'd just be too much happiness for too many OSU fans if Cleveland were to win a championship. Plus the Warriors are a team that's pretty easy to root for:
-Fun to watch
-Mostly all 3-4 year college players
-Feels like a Beilein coached team
-Draymond Green always seemed like a good guy. Nice seeing him exceed expectations
-Can't say the same for the Cavs' owner, though, who's shown a bit of the Spartiness in him -- all that lambasting of LeBron for leaving was shockingly immature. Dude suddenly acted like the prior 7 years (and millions more he made by having James) never happened...a mentality not unlike that of MSU folk having now decided football didn't exist before 2008.

Have the Cavs not seemed like a complete team since game 3 against the Bulls? They are getting consistent scoring from every position on the court, shooting over 40% as a team from three, 45% from the field, rebounding exceptionally well on both ends of the court, have JR Smith who has been playing like the 6th man of year, and a back-up point guard who has proved to be quite an asset thus far in the playoffs. Not to mention, they have another 7 days to get Kyrie healthy and the best player on the planet is playing like it.

I am not sure who will win but this isn't like Lebron's Cavs teams of the past. This team actually has quality guys at every position.

I mean, a few days ago LeBron shot the ball 37 times. In a single game. And during the postseason he's averaged 25 FGA's along with about 8 assists.

I dunno man. If you can explain how the Cavs aren't actually that heavily dependent on LeBron, despite his usage being so ridiculously high, I'm all ears.

That is how he is. Usually the best player on the team will touch the ball the most and have the most attempts. This team is very good and NOT "heavily" dependent on LBJ. Do they depend on him? Yes, every game. Absolutely. He is the best basketball player in the world. Who would not depend on him? He is his generation's Michael Jordan.

LeBron is unstoppable and has weapons in Irving, Shump, JR, Tristan, and Mosgov.  The team has come together really nice and there is no better [player] leader in sports then LeBron.  Motivates the hell out of the team.

I know there's some Cleveland fans on this board, but I'd like to see the Warriors win.

It's nothing against Lebron. I'm not a Lebron hater at all. It's more just that I want to see the OSU sect of Cleveland fans continue to suffer.

If the Cavs were at full strength, this would be a great series, but they're not.

Hard to believe that Irving's knees are going to be right after a week and he's a minus defender at full health. Cavs have the series' best player but Warriors have next 4 if Irving's not healthy. Cavs have been playing great D but against very, very limited teams. The Warriors are a huge step up on both ends of the court, first in both defensive and offensive efficiency for the season. They have looked sloppy/nervy in the last couple rounds, but they have a gear Cleveland just can't match.

Barring injury, I think it plays out much like the Warriors-Rockets series.

LOL

What? Who the hell isn't injured or hurt to some degree? The NBA has a very long season from start of the regular season to the end of the post season. Kyrie will have had a week to rest his body. He will be fine. Other than Kyrie, no one is significantly hurt (not counting Love and Verejao) and even then, Kyrie can still play. They (thankfully) did not need Kyrie too much in the ATL series, so he did not play as much, but he was still available. This Cavs team is extremely talented. I'm so glad they made the trade from Shumpert, Mozgov, and Smith because those guys have been lights out great.

The east may be garbage, but the fact that the cavs, with all their injuries, just swept the team that dominated the regular season is pretty damn impressive. That being said, golden state is no atlanta. On paper, the warriors have the better team (I don't even think it's close), and it would take a Herculean performance from LeBron, JR Smith, and TT to pull out the series. I think cavs win twice, lose game 6 at home.

The Warriors had a very easy path. But they also earned it by dominating in the regular season. No team they've played yet has really tested them. It's obviously possible they could falter, I would just be surprised to see it happen.

The Cavs will win if they win game 1 or 2.

With all the time between now and game 1, Kyrie should be feeling much better and that's crucial. Delly can't guard anyone on that GS team.

Its hard to see the Cavaliers not getting at least one game.   Golden State was very fortunate to win those first two, especially the second against Houston.

The Cavaliers will actually take a game thats handed to them on a silver platter unlike Houston.

I have the most fun watching Curry go nuts on the floor, so for that reason, I'm hoping the Warriors win. I'm hoping for a long, exciting series.

Why is that insane? The Warriors have been the best team in the NBA all year long. Cleveland is all sorts of beat up. Throw in the fact that 3 of the first 5 games are at GS (where they've only lost 3 times all year) and it's easily conceivable to see this ending in Oakland after Game 5.

It's "insane" that iPhone has posted over 20 times in this thread - so far - and I'm not to the end yet! Obviously a huge Cavs fan and incapable of any objectivity, so don't expect a reasoned and rational explanation of why he'd call someone insane...

Better to ask did he burn his LeBron jersey when he bolted, and how long did it take him to buy a new one when he returned to ohio...

Warriors in 6, Steph for Finals MVP. I know, goin out on a limb there....

Warriors in five. Cavs win game three, game four is close but the Warriors pull it out and then stomp Cleveland back home for the title.

Honestly, I think this was the worst thing that could have happened to Cleveland. They'll go into the finals against a far superior team and lose badly, meaning Lebron James has now played five straight seasons in a row to the final game. Losing Kevin Love and having a hurt Kyrie would have been the perfect season to go out in the second round and then come back strong the next year. At some point, Lebron is going to run out of fuel and as we've seen, a Love/Irving led Cavs team is pretty much garbage.

Cleveland 4-2. Thompson on the offensive glass and the cavs actually making more three's will be key. I think the cavs are actually better with Irving out, but who am I?

As a native Clevelander, I say Cavs. I really think the physical play that the Cavs are used to will break down the Warriors. I may be a homer, but I don't think it will be close, either. Cleveland in a sweep or 5.
