2017 QB drops ND scholly for lacrosse after call from JH
Fuck ND... in lax and/or football
First ever dual lax/football recruit?! Bring it on.
Please be sure to tip your waitress.
Here's a tip for you: Seabiscuit in the 4th.
You are on a run!
GOAT Athlete.
but Jim Thorpe usually comes into this debate.
Also, Syracuse was one of the schools mentioned above. The Jim Brown pitch kind of goes in their favor.
I'm pretty sure the top picture is at Manhasset High School. Can you imagine trying to tackle him in high school? Holy shit! Look at him! Imagine him with a stick in his hands. And the sticks were brutal in those days...
According to legend, they actually changed lacrosse rules because of him. He would run down field and clamp the stick to his chest making it impossible to dislodge the ball no matter how hard you checked him.
There was a video I saw online a few years ago from his time at Syracuse. Man amongst boys. He must have hit 9 of the guys on defense and was eventually brought down 50 yards downfield by 3 guys.
That he didn't win the Heisman is one of the greatest injustices in college football history.

I read this headline as "Guy going to play quarterback at ND gets call from Jim Harbaugh and switches to lacrosse."

And my first thought was - Good. To hell with Notre Dame.
Hide ur golf recruits, hide ur lacrosse recruits, hide ur baseball recruits cause Jim's taking everybody out here.
I watched Coan's highlights when he got offered, and he's got a nice delivery and puts some good touch on the ball. He doesn't exactly have a Howitzer of an arm, and the competition level is questionable. I trust Harbaugh when it comes to QB recruiting, but he's not a kid that I would expect to be getting elite offers this early.
I think he gets the most out of his arm, gets good spin on it and cuts the ball through the air, but he's not going to be throwing a lot of deep outs and he's not going to be pushing the ball down the field 60 yards.
I like him and was more impressed by his film than I thought I was going to be; like you said, nice delivery, so when he can step into his throws he gets pretty good ball velocity without over-throwing; but he's not going to have an elite arm and may struggle a bit when his pocket breaks down and he maintain clean mechanics.
One thing I like(d) about Lewerke is his running ability, which is pretty solid for a pro-style guy. Being a lacrosse player, I kind of thought Coan would have a little more running ability but he seems to be fairly limited in that aspect.
Sayville is DIII in Long Island football, which is almost as low as it gets on Long Island, which isn't exactly a hotbed of football talent. They are also level 3 for lacrosse, but it's a much different story, much higher level of competition. Dropping the lax scholarship at this point surprises me.
for someone to play both? He could be a benefit to our lax program. . .
I think football is probably too demanding for lacrosse, especially as a QB.
Both football and lax have offseason practice sessions during the other's season.
This is actually a very similar situation to Ohio State's Sam Hubbard. He was committed to ND for lacrosse then decommitted when Ohio State offered a football scholarship. He does not play both sports, though, now at Ohio State.

Go away Harbaugh. You can have all the NON-Lax recruits.
Go Hopkins!
EDIT: I was wondering if somebody would downvote me-lol.
Wasn't Evan Royster formerly of Penn State offered a scholarship to play lacrosse at Hopkins if I remember correctly? And yes, Boooooo Hopkins.
ONE MAN
First he took your football camps. ["I DO DECLARE..THIS IS ILL-LEGAL, I SAY! ILL-LEGAL!!!]
Now your Lacrosse players. [(quietly, with monks chanting latin shit in the background) "This is irrelevant. They are not our historic rival."]

Ha I'm glad he's screwing over ND. Let's get that LI kid on M's lacrosse and football teams!
LI football isn't so hot but we've produced a few ballers over the years. In addition to Boomer who was already mentioned, we got: the greatest of all time Jim Brown, D'Brick, Vinny Testaverde, and of course my favorite Jumbo Elliott to name a few. And most of you Lions fans should know Stephen Boyd as well.
I won't say that there are frequent conflicts between lacrosse and football but on LI most of the football players play lacrosse in the spring so a lot of times you'll get the best athletes in the school playing lacrosse. Schools like UVA and Syracuse will occasionally have a great lacrosse player who was also a star HS football player on LI (and sometimes was recruited to play football there as well).
Coan was featured on Rivals Spotlight with about 11 minutes of footage - LINK.
The OP mentions Maryland and Syracuse. Besides Michigan (now recorded as having offered per Rivals), the only other major offer was from Miami (FL). Stony Brook rounds out the entirety of Coan's current offers.

I hope he can play both at Michigan. Those are my two favorite Michigan sports! (Basketball and hockey are a close second).
