There are actually a lot more parallels with Alabama than other programs (OSU had 1 down year with a friggin interim coach).  Saban was in the NFL so had to reintegrate into CFB - his staff was more college oriented than Harbaugh's though and generally he is considered an uber recruiter wheras Jim is not.  But like you said for most kids who are 16-17 today they know a mediocre program whose last big success was 2006.  2011 was a blip to them in an otherwise long run of mediocre.  2006 was 8 seasons ago so you can do the math on what the average HS kid knows about UM.

Now going back when Saban took over here were the previous 8 seasons of Bama - not too dissimilar to UM:

  • 2006: 6-7
  • 2005: 10-2
  • 2004: 6-6
  • 2003: 3-9
  • 2002: 10-3
  • 2001: 7-5
  • 2000: 3-8
  • 1999: 10-3

(98 and 97 were likewise bad with 4 and 7 wins)

But one advantage Saban has is Alabama is a hotbed for talent and surrounding states within 4-5 hours are too.  Michigan is not a hotbed for talent and Ohio is the 1 state that easy driving distance with tons of talent.  That happens to be populated by the national champion with a rock star coach.

Let's not forget that the Michigan that these kids remember hasn't been so great. The team just got a completely new coaching staff that looks pretty but on paper hasn't done anything at Michigan yet (aside from the playing days decades ago). Everyone keep calm. TBH, Michigan and the coaching staff are in a position that they have to prove to the highly sought after kids that this isn't another coaching regime with a lot of bark and no bite. The kids that are buying into harbaugh's staff, the program and the University of Michigan will come. It takes time. It's also only April. Just let it happen. Let the University of Michigan and their football program's direction speak for itself. Which I am so very sure that it will.

He owes it to himself to take officials to other schools.  Otherwise I feel sorry for him.  You get one chance in your life to do this.  Probably UGA did not want him visiting AA because he may like it more.

and his family moved to GA when he was young?

The economic downturn in Mich really has hurt the amount of quality recruits in football and BBall, it used to be you only had to recruit Detroit, Pontiac and Flint to get a top ten squad in BBall especially, not so much anymore I've noticed from afar.

I'll be looking forward to the revitilization of the City of Detroit, please happen soon!!!

Get players that want to be here, we could still end up with:

Swenson

Bredeson

Jordan

Davis

Onwenu

I would take that as an O-line recruiting class, providing we take that many O-linemen.

Recruiting is going to be like this until we see some results on the field. Urbz and co. are still negative recruiting UM like crazy and unfortunately many high school kids are naive enough to believe it all. Just win, baby, and everything will take care of itself.

I realize that some of it is sarcasm or playig around with a meme....but can we cool it with the "bagman" stuff? In what world does Georgia getting a commitment from a kid who lives in Georgia raise a bagman flag? Just because he said a few weeks ago we were the leader? He hasnt visited Ann Arbor and UGA recruits Georgia very well. It's not like he has been on campus 20 times, and all the sudden went to a school not on the radar.

It makes us look silly and like we have a bit of a Little Bro mentality towards the SEC.

He's never visited U-M, but when he said Michigan was his "leader," some people took that statement at face value?

That's some impressive gullibility.

I mean, when a kid says "Michigan is my leader," I don't think there's any shame in believing that Michigan is his leader. That's not being gullible.

I don't think anyone in this thread is extremely surprised that he committed elsewhere. It's just a simple fact that he named Michigan as his leader, and shortly thereafter, he committed to Georgia. I think most of us are used to this kind of thing by now.

"what he said was just meaningless hot air."

No. What it meant was that Michigan was his leader. What it did not mean is that Michigan had an insurmountable lead. Georgia surmounted the lead.

If you're in a relationship, you might say to someone "I'll love you forever." Lots of people who say that end up - surprise, surprise - breaking up and ending up with someone else. It's not that it was meaningless. It's just that things worked out differently than expected.

Some dude on the victors board said the word on the street is that Harbaugh is too intense for some kids and that he's having his best luck with lower ranked, under appreciated recruits that relate to his intensity. People are really starting to really run with the "Harbaugh can't recruit" theme. I can't wait til they have to eat their words.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if some kids can't relate to the jackhammer mentality right now.

Once we start winning more often and start beating MSU and OSU, all of a sudden there will be plenty of kids who have no problem with the intensity.

That's dumb.

There are other coaches out there who are also extremely intense, and some of them are giant dicks, too. Harbaugh has a more dynamic personality than the likes of Dantonio, Saban, Meyer, etc.

Here are the main reasons Michigan doesn't have any additional commits for 2016:

1. We haven't won many games in recent years.

2. Jim Harbaugh got a late start in recruiting.

3. Harbaugh is recruiting lots and lots of Florida, Texas, and California guys who naturally aren't going to commit until they get a chance to see campus.
