This is what the helmet stickers should look like
There has been a lot of talk about helmet stickers in the last couple of days. I like the idea, but I'm very wary of the execution.
The stickers from Jim's era were kinda ugly and very big. In the classic photo of Jim and Bo you can count less than 20 stickers on the side of his helmet and it's more than half full.
- They are way too big.
- They distract from the glorious winged design.
Stickers are not what make the Michigan football helmet so iconic. That's OSU's thing. We should go with something more subtle.
My proposal is the thin block M. (click to enlarge)
I think it's a much cleaner look, and you can fit a lot more stickers on the helmet. Just my two cents.
I can get behind helmet stickers if they're that unobtrusive. The thin block M makes them visible, but not overwhelming. That's a balance I can live with.
My fear is that going back to helmet stickers might mean something like the giant wolverine patches they were in the past. I'm sorry, but those things diminished winged perfection.
Here's hoping someone important sees this unobtrusive rendition. And likes it.
Mmmmmmm...delicious! Makes me feel like EATING!
I like the idea, but if we do go with a block M, I think it should match the small one that is now on the front of the helmet.
That was what I tried first. I didn't like the way it looked. That block M is so thick that when you stack a bunch of them next to each other it looks like a wall of maize.
I could see that. If they choose to go this way, maybe they'll alter the front of the helmet (or go back to the "Michigan" of old).
You use Illustrator or Photoshop for this mockup?
Nice job. I am sure someone on this board has contacts in the AD - hopefully they show it although I am sure Harbaugh will go back to tradition.
I'd like to see them go back to the spelled out Michgan on the front of the helmet and do away with the little block M. The older look was so much cleaner.
I like very much.

Hold that idea, I'm busy sky writing over East Lansing
Is to keep the gorgeous wing helmet the way it is. I could live with that look the wolverine sticker make it too clutter.
Let's have an MGoDesign contest for these bad boys. Then we can send the winners to the Athletic Dept. Maybe someone here will forever live in Michigan history.

Classy and cool
Too many block Ms. Needs more Wolverine paws.
/s
Ah I negged you at first didn't see the /s. I sure as hell don't want to look like clemson.
OP's design is good, wouldn't mind a smaller wolverine like before either. Much prefer whatever the symbol is in maize so we don't have a bunch of ovals on the helmet.
I do think they should look like this.....but we really should ask Dave Brandon his thoughts.
Dave, suggestions please?
its missing the 'TM' in the corner.
Brandon would put little Adidas stickers instead.
It would be the "Chobani Yogurt Helmet Sticker" in the shape of a dollar sign.
Harbaugh is going back to the traditional 1975 Snarling Wolverine design for sure.
But I'd be open to see some more aggressive styles.
Ugh, no paws or claw marks - that's tacky.
I was thinking just a bunch of these. But really, your idea is 100% what should happen.
I think the 70s/80s stickers are a bit goofy looking for todays game, and will take away from the helmet as a whole. Dislike the idea of a helmet sicker in general. Just my opinion.
BUT....... I could 100% get behind this. Well done.
both work for me as long as you cange that ugly hat
I was thinking about Brian's point that it'd be nice to save stickers for uniformz games but that's not how these things work. Maybe there's a way to do something like that. It'd be pretty cool if players earned their stickers all season long but didn't apply them until the OSU game (or even the bowl game). That would keep the helmets clean for most of the season, establish a unique, throwback-based tradition for the OSU/bowl game, and preserve the incentive value of the stickers.
Maybe I'm thinking too much about this, but I can hear OSU saying that "We're trying to be like them". They might (would) probably say this anyway, but I see it happening especially if half the time we're wearing the stickers, it's against the Buckeyes.
This is the only sticker idea that I can get behind.
Otherwise, no stickers. I hate stickers.
OP's idea isn't as bad as other alternatives if stickers are going to happen, though.
damn good.
Alternative: I would gladly accept your avatar as the sticker design.
BUT WHAT DOES JON FALK THINK?
Now down to business here. OP, your design is pretty sweet. But This Is Michigan. If anyone would have META heltmet stickers, it'd be us. Tiny Winged Helmets on the Winged Helmet. Opponents won't know what to do with all that, it'll be like they entered the Twilight Zone.

I really like these. Thanks for the mockup. Did you save a version with the larger Block M's?
There are enough Block M's on the uniform as it is. It just looks weird to have fifty of them hanging out on a helmet.
For my money, do a tiny version of the footballs with the appropriately-facing wolverine heads. They look good, they're traditional, and if less ostentatious, are effective.
Yeah, the M's would be stupid. Too many M's.
That is a horrendous idea; more horrendous than the idea of stickers in the first place.
Hyperbole much?
