You are spot on with this comment. The kid did not want to own his decision with so many around him telling him to go to Michigan. Based on his comments he is clearly being fed a line of BS by Meyer. He will see soon enough! If a 3* intimidated him, then he is in for a rude awakening at OSU with Elliott next season and then the #1 RB in 2016 coming in. The backup to Elliott is likely better than Weber.
Good Luck, but bad decision! Harbaugh needed Weber because of the need. Meyer wants Weber to ensure Michigan doesn't get him. He will have an uphill battle at OSU.
Best of Luck to him!

gone into Signing Day without a committed RB.
Some things are implicit. "We're not recruiting another RB (if you definitely commit)" may be one of them.
It's a two-way street. I think we may have dodged a cancer virus that has an entitlement attitude of "zero obligations for me / complete fulfillment of conditional promises even if the conditions aren't met for thee".

Per AJC.com, here's how it went down:
http://recruiting.blog.ajc.com/2015/02/04/breaking-roquan-smith-explain…
So, after Smith's announcement he's busy talking with reporters and whatnot, doesn't get around to sending in his LOI. Then UCLA calls, asking about it. He's about to send it in when word hits the streets about Ulbrich and the Falcons job. They call Ulbrich and he confirms he has an offer, says he hasn't accepted.
So, question: did the UCLA person calling about the LOI know about the Falcons situation?

At least he doesn't have to worry about Mora being in high demand.

I feel bad for this kid. I've been to Montezuema Georgia, it's barely a dusty, wide place in the road. There is no doubt in my mind that this kid was seriously believing in Ulbrich in order to commit to UCLA. I guarantee you he is flipping between terrified and hard-on every time he thinks about LA. He announces and 30 minutes later finds out the guy is on his way to the NFL. There's no doubt in my mind that his world got rocked and then some.
Ulbrich is telling the kid how sad he is that the kid had to hear it from somebody else. College football really is a shitty business.

Not to pile on the kid, but...
If he's really as good as advertised, why would it matter who else signed with Michigan? Shouldn't he have the confidence in his talents to believe that no matter who else is competing for that spot, he's going to win out? I'd rather our players have supreme confidence, a killer attitude about them that they welcome competition.
I wish the kid luck, but in hindsight, it seems perhaps we may have lucked into a better RB with hopefully more mental toughness and a more competitive nature that didn't seem to care if Weber signed here or not.

Back when we had Harris committed, Weber said he wasn't afraid of competition.

not um material?
i know meyers a scumbag and not nearly the man harbaugh is - but i cant and wont claim to know much about weber. his story does not really matter, he picked osu over um, move on without trashing the kid (hes not jameis winston or some other criminal).
kid wants to go to osu. meyers a relentless recruiter and obviously has one of the best staffs in football - they just won a title and have lost like 2-3 games in as many years. meyers machine is rolling and weber experienced the campus / team vibe, bonded with osu players and watched them succeed and then move on - pretty easy sell.
harbaugh will no doubt get it humming at um but hes behind 8 ball, he has to catch meyer / osu and it wont happen overnight. kid only gets 4 yrs to chase his dream, i respect his decision. osu is top 5 destination for elite prospects who want to play for rings and then get nfl carries - hopefully um soon will be as well, but theyre not yet there.
so what if weber talked some nonsense to deflect a bit?? its a wild stressful situation for hs kid, hes gonna have 100s of grown men insulting him on twitter for picking osu. he spurned the home team for what i 100% believe to be legit reasons (the specifics are his business) and now he has to deal with fallout from his city / state (and possibly even friends / family / coaches, etc). thats tough.
maybe he wasnt straight up with harbaugh, maybe he was. if he threw out nonsense about depth charts and promises made, etc, its just a kids attempt to deflect some serious backlash. maybe his compass just pointed to osu, i dont know or care - his call.
to say hes not michigan material is bullshit. even if every possible negative rumor out there is true thats still no reason to trash the kid. meyer is a scumbag, not weber. i hope he plays lights out and succeeds in all pursuits (other than the game). if anythings not michigan material its trashing random teenagers for minor discretions. unfortunately decent % of modern prospects troll and pull bs, some looking for shine, some for who knows what reasons, but get over it

Didn't even read much of your butt hurt wall of text. Just caught a few finger pointing statements.
I never thought Web was coming unlike a lot of people here. There is nothing for me to "get over"
What he said at the presser was nothing more than sour grapes. Wasn't handled with tact or grace compared to a lot of other kids out there. That isn't Michigan material. So pucker up butter cup and get over yourself. *Waves you off*

Move on. It's not personal. He wanted to go to OSU and should stick to that story, but he's only 17. I wish him well and have always thought he was a great back. I wish he picked us and it says nothing about his character that he didn't.

Exactly skege... I love that Higdon didn't care that we had Weber on the radar (not to mention our returning RBs). I love that the kid wants to come in and compete, as well as learn from TW Sr.

But I want them to sign today so I can know! Forget taking time to make an important decision.
February 4th, 2015 at 5:50 PM ^
If the UCLA D Coordinator does go to the Falcons, that he will no longer enroll at UCLA. Will be between Michigan and A&M for his services at that pont, as well as Georgia.
February 4th, 2015 at 5:58 PM ^
UCLA got 4 last-minute recruits today and now half their class should have second thoughts. They were deceived by the coaching staff and will have a DC who they don't know. Smith and his "spirit quest" are looking like good, clear thinking before an important decision. Well played.
And come to Michigan.

Can UCLA's TE coach leave for the Falcons?
February 4th, 2015 at 6:46 PM ^
although I s'pose we could use CC after TWJ goes pro after his junior year.
February 4th, 2015 at 6:49 PM ^
If his dad thinks he's a better DE prospect and he wants to play the position, it'd be nice for him to give it a shot as opposed to being somewhat forced into the TE position.
February 4th, 2015 at 7:12 PM ^
February 4th, 2015 at 7:22 PM ^
Everone on earth thinks he is a better de prospect. He personally wants to play te. I can't imagine he doesn't change to defense. He's a massive kid and honestly not very fast.
Who knows though. His blocking looks good. But he just wrecks kids on defense.

UCLA can keep their TE coach AND Clark!!!!! When all is said and done, Butt, Bunting and TWJ are all going to be drafted higher than Clark!!!!!
