So I don't quite understand his mentioning a national title. Luck didn't even win a Heisman whic is amazing when you consider he is a much, much better QB than either Griffin or Manziel.

What's the rule on posting paywalled info? If its allowed I can copy/paste, his ESPN scouting report sounds pretty good overall.

You cant put much stock in these HS hightlight films, especially QBs. If you remember how good Russell Bellomy looked in his...mobile, good touch on the ball...accurate...

Run pro style routes?
Seems a lot of these "highlight" films are sideline vertical routes which dont show much.
Gentry's did show a couple posts though, so give him that.
All most laymen can glean is release, arm strength and basic fundamentals. After watching the film, I'll give you that his release can be a litle slow and he throws a bit flat-footed perhaps too much.
But for the love of God, it's a high school highlight film and it's better than 99% of the other ones out there! He did what he did because it was good enough and what was needed. I highly doubt that after watching him play at UM, we're going to see the same arm motion, footwork, etc.
Gentry's film isn't as impressive as Josh Rosen's, but even after watching Rosen's, I bet there are UCLA fans trying to appear to be more knowledgeable than they are by picking it apart, not knowing what they're doing.

But this kid has better feet than Navarre ever had...he's a bit more nimble in the pocket and can simply run faster.
A Ryan Mallett comparison isn't unfair by any means, though I'm not sure this kid has the arm Mallett did/does.

Mallett does have a bigger arm, Gentry perhaps the faster runner.
But if you watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hMtFJ13VDY and see a snippet of Mallett in high school, go to the :59 second mark and see how Mallett ran in HS. Compared to Gentry's tape at similar ages, there's enough in common between these two guys to snicker at those who don't think they're very similar.

Edit: Stupid double post

I'm way more impressed with the way this kid reads the field than how he throws the ball. His field vision on multiple plays where he ran was great and he made some really good moves and cuts I wasn't expecting from someone his size. His accuracy does look pretty good too, Harbaugh can do the rest. I really like the foundation he is working with.

Going off his 2 year old film I came away pretty impressed. He seems very calm in the pocket and hits his receivers in stride almost every completed pass. Not the strongest arm but his vision and accuracy can make up for that.
Ive never been that impressed with Malzone so this makes me happy.

For anyone interested, a lot of the specifics of what really happened with Gentry is in this article. Feel free to make a post out of it, as I cannot post on the board. Its an interesting read.
