Wheatley "one of the best recruiters in the East" per reputable source
"I mean, he's (Wheatley) one of the best recruiters in the east (laughing), but all three of them came by to visit," Wheatley Jr. said.
He was referring to Drevno and Jay Harbaugh as the other two.

and he brings in top end assistants with top end recruiters. We'll have nice things again. :)

Yet too late all at the same time.
Too soon in that this isn't a buckle up situation...it's just a thread stealing a quote from 24/7 and sharing it here.
Too late because the .gif is already overused so it's too late to be funny like it used to be.
Too soon and too late all in one, perfect timing.

That first picture looks kinda....awkward. TJ must be bigger than his pops.

Jr. is 6-6. I think Sr. is around 6-0 or 6-1.

Ken is right, but height is the only department that TJ edges out Sr.

How unbelievably strong is Tyrone Wheatley to this day?
He looks like he's totally unburdened.

I liked Hoke too but why do you feel the need to bring him up like some guy on a date who can't stop talking about his ex?
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:06 PM ^
Because other posters make comments about recuiting that infer that now that we have Harbaugh and the new staff we'll finally be able to recruit well and that's 100% pure Columbian revisionist bullshit.
Hoke could recruit - he just couldnt coach which led to players decommitting.
Edit: And to answer your question I was responding to a post that's no longer there.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:09 PM ^
You are inferring too much.
It is possible makes comments about the new staff's recruiting ability independent of the old staff.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:25 PM ^
I haven't seen anybody disparage Hoke's recruiting besides the decision to have a scholarship LS, not bringing in a scholarship LS, and perhaps some angst about singling out Speight when he wasn't especially lauded.
People are just happy that Harbaugh appears to be swinging for the fences and seems like he could more than salvage a 2015 class that saw a few key decommits, and in a short time frame, to boot.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:33 PM ^
I must not have seen that other post before it was deleted. Thought it was weird that you were defending something that wasn't even under attack. I, for one, agree that Hoke and company were great recruiters. There's not much you would have to go on to say otherwise.
Not one of the ones that downvoted you btw.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:01 PM ^
It is entirely factually accurate. Hoke brought in consecutive top 10 classes and failed to develop the talent.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:12 PM ^
There's a theory among some fans that Hoke was unable to spot actual talent and relied heavily on who else was recruiting a guy to determine his level of talent. If that's accurate, then he could have brought in highly-rated classes full of untalented players. I'm not saying it true or not ture, but case in point: Jake Ryan was one of Michigan best overall football players during Hoke's tenure. Hoke evaluated him while at SDSU and decided Jake wasn't worthy of an offer.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:24 PM ^
although I don't know why he would go against his own better judgment.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:29 PM ^
he didn't recruit Ryan to UM, RR did.

January 22nd, 2015 at 5:45 PM ^
How f'n hard would it be for Hoke to select only the 4 and 5 star talent that really isn't talented. God damned ridiculous from those who might run that narràtive.
I trust the coaches but I like to trust them more with a ton of recruits with elite rated talent...just saying.

Very interesting that it was Drevno and JH 2.0 and not Mattison on the visit. Guess he is getting recruited as a TE and not DE after all. Hmm.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:04 PM ^
I guess it is kind of interesting.
One reason why it wasn't Mattison is that he is joining Harbaugh and Durkin on their Florida visits.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:04 PM ^
Jay Harbaugh may relate to him as well, being jim harbaughs son, as he probably has had many of the similar thoughts.

::as Mike Rosenberg sits outside the Wheatley house on allowance day, index finger hovering over the "publish" button on his next UM hitpiece::
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:27 PM ^
I could see that even though he works on a suppsed grander scale at SI now, but if there were ever a person in journalism at whom I would laugh maniacally if they hit "post" on something and instead sent the world a link to his favorite place to peruse explicit videos a la Gerry Hamilton, it would be be Rosenberg. Just being honset about my own feelings there.
January 22nd, 2015 at 2:59 PM ^
Hopefully that means he can recruit Virginia, Maryland, DC and Pennsylvania really well. I'm guessing he's had some experience doing that with being at Syracuse, but all of those areas seem to produce really good football talent year in and out.

You can't have Jim Harbaugh, both Wheatley's, and Greg Mattison in the same room. Ever. The amount of swag contained therein may warp the universe.

Recruiting the east coast is important. Some great talent coming out of the mid atlantic states such as Virginia, Maryland, and the DC metro area. This combined with New Jersey's resurgence as a recruiting hotbed, Philadelphia's production of some top prospects, and the ability to pull some good players from underscouted New York City and New England.
January 22nd, 2015 at 3:39 PM ^

If Ty Jr. goes elsewhere his dad could by him a Ferrari & it's just having a dad with money.

I'm pretty sure Ty Sr. can give Ty Jr. pretty much anything even if he does go to Michigan due to a pre-existing relationship. The relationship can obviously not be disputed either given the circumstances.
