He felt the need to hold a press conference for this.
January 15th, 2015 at 4:26 PM ^
Notice how he spells his own name wrong too
January 15th, 2015 at 8:44 PM ^
have more than one spelling of their names
January 15th, 2015 at 8:52 PM ^
wow this is just wrong on so many levels. He explaned in an interview not long ago to ESPN that he uses "cordale" as a twitter handle in honor of a teammate he had at Glenville by that name. But your off-color comment about "poor people" having more than one spelling is just disgusting. Pat yourself on the back for being born to a stable family with more money than his. Good job man.
January 16th, 2015 at 1:41 AM ^
the reference to "poor people" really means "unlucky" than it means financially disadvantaged. Hoping, really hoping.

That is Trolling.
Well done sir. They would take note and study if only they could fathom the depths of your wit.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:08 AM ^
and am talking about the way things are--there isn't a hint of prejudice in my comment, and in fact I was pointing to the prejudice in people making fun of Cardale. My own daughter's name has been spelled in different ways on different documents, and I have seen this many times. Mothers with little education write out their kids names and the names evolve over time. Sometimes people are shamed into a new spelling when people point out that the given spelling is not phonetic, etc. An indictment of the system, not of the people and possible fluidity of their names.
But it's subtler and goes farther than that. A lot of people here make fun of foreign and black players' names all the time. I know people that collect funny player names to laugh at. And people were laughing at Jones up above, which is why I made the post.
In fact, naming--changing your name--is a right that poor people often reserve for themselves. Names are a much more fluid, a less essential construct than middle-class people assume.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:13 AM ^
Maybe say this in your first post? Your first comment, without context, is almost always going to be taken the wrong way.
January 16th, 2015 at 11:58 AM ^
more than it likes to think. No one, meanwhile, was lamenting the casual racism of people making fun of Jones for having two spellings of his name (his case turns out to be completely illustrative). All I did was make the simplest statement of fact. . . which I was silly enough to think that bright people might get was a calm complaint/rejoinder to such meanness.
January 15th, 2015 at 5:36 PM ^
Turns out kids can grow up a little bit when the go to college. Who knew?
January 15th, 2015 at 6:42 PM ^
He didn't show that today, if he did.

He was in Cleveland visiting his uncle in hospice.
January 15th, 2015 at 9:32 PM ^
I don't get why people are crapping on the kid. He's been really stupid with statements in past but if this is true, good for him.
January 15th, 2015 at 10:09 PM ^
When Clarkie agrees with me, you know it's serious.
January 15th, 2015 at 8:44 PM ^
I don't get the dissing of this decision. He is choosing to finish his degree. From what I have read about him he grew up underprivileged and made the announcement to continue his education in a public way in front of a bunch of underprivileged kids who look up to him and what he is accomplishing. It must be nice to sit in your ivory tower and throw darts at people who are finding success who came from a different background than you that you just don't understand. Keep on hating, Cardale will just keep on doing his thing and not give a shit what you think.
January 15th, 2015 at 7:23 PM ^
Cardale Jones returning to (not play) school.
January 15th, 2015 at 4:26 PM ^
grade A narcissism right there.
January 15th, 2015 at 5:14 PM ^
And then questioned why everyone was making such a big deal about this. Well, you tweeted out "life changing decision at 3pm", changed it to 4pm, and held a press conference. What an asshole.
January 15th, 2015 at 5:36 PM ^
Furthermore he's doing something with his life to further his education (yeah I know he ain't come to play school), his NFL future and ambitions. Much better than not doing anything or wasting his life away like other people his age. What an asshole....
January 15th, 2015 at 8:10 PM ^
Think about how rare it is to have the power to call a press conference. He just summed a lot of people from the media with one tweet. If I tried to do that right now, absolutely no one would come. The power to summon the media is truly awesome (and hilarious), so props to the kid for flexing it.
January 15th, 2015 at 6:43 PM ^
FWIW, Trey Burke did this as well.
January 15th, 2015 at 6:58 PM ^
Typical of a Ohio State athlete.

"school"
January 15th, 2015 at 4:48 PM ^
No, he means name. His twitter handle. He also has the wrong number too.
January 15th, 2015 at 5:12 PM ^
He wasn't responding to Chipper1221's post about the spelling, he was responding to the OP.
January 15th, 2015 at 4:21 PM ^
really have a press conference to announce that....NOTHING IS CHANGING!!! HAHAHAHA, what a giant douche...
January 15th, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
January 15th, 2015 at 4:37 PM ^
is that this fellow played 2 games. Trey was predicted to go high in the draft and was very impressive all year and it was not just due to his supporting cast.
January 15th, 2015 at 6:30 PM ^
but there was far more national interest in Jones' announcement than there was for Trey's.
January 15th, 2015 at 4:53 PM ^
Taylor Lewan (I know, it was for his senior year) held a press conference to say he was staying for his final year. The fact that he held a presser is not that big of a deal.
January 15th, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
Tomorrow, I am going to call my boss. He is an important guy, but I plan to ask him for an hour where we can meet. During this meeting, I plan to tell him that I am NOT leaving my job, and that everything will stay the same it has been. I cannot wait to see the look on his face.
January 15th, 2015 at 8:51 PM ^
Maybe if your "job" was played out weekly in front of millions of people then your point would matter, but since no one gives a shit what you do 9 to 5.....When you just lead your team to a national title it's kind of....relevant.
January 16th, 2015 at 11:08 AM ^
Don't worry nobody cares about my 9-5er either. I can't summon media from far and wide with a tweet.
But this hits it. Who knows if he really wanted to do the press conference or not either (Seems he lets out all the good info. out in tweet format! - Doesn't get old sorry). Great for him to continue his education despite becoming famous (again) within a months time.
January 15th, 2015 at 4:28 PM ^
But the highlight of the press conference was when they played this video....
January 15th, 2015 at 4:21 PM ^
I mean, I am excited for our QB competition, but this will be on another level.
January 15th, 2015 at 4:21 PM ^
Allowing for who he plays for... seems like a good kid and making a very thought-out decision.
January 15th, 2015 at 4:24 PM ^
A thought out decision?? His stock will never ever be higher. Things can and will only go down hill from here.
January 15th, 2015 at 4:45 PM ^
Really? Suppose he comes back next year, plays at this level for a whole season, and then goes to the draft. If he shows this kinda stuff for a 14 or 15 game season, that's at a whole nother level as far as NFL teams are concerned. Yeah, he looks good now, but no one's going to burn a top-5, top-10 draft pick on a guy who's played in three games, no matter how big those games were. Do this for a full year, he could easily end up top-5, maybe even #1.
January 15th, 2015 at 5:42 PM ^
He could also end up riding the bench behind Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett or both. There were things he did Monday night that were impressive, but he benefitted from some very poor coverage (on one long pass, his receiver reached back and pulled the ball off the helmet of the defender, who didn't even look around when the ball hit him), some extremely open receivers, some bad tackling (he looked like a bull but not all that fast) and an unstoppable running game.
From the second quarter on, all OSU had to do was give the ball to Ezekiel Elliott. If they had done that more persistently, it looked as if the game would have gotten more lopsided a lot more quickly than it did.
January 15th, 2015 at 7:22 PM ^
Well yeah obviously, but the guy he was replying to said his stock would never ever be higher. In reality, his stock may end up being much much higher.

"3rd string" Because of the way he played and what he (and his team) accomplished he immediately vaulted into some type of contention for NFL opportunities. Whether you like it or not it actually was somewhat newsworthy and as someone mentioned Trey Burke did this too but that isn't the same somehow?
I think there is a huge case to be made that he is the starter next year and the other two have to make some decisions.
