Bacon: Harbaugh getting $5 mil per year, same as SF deal
BREAKING NEWS: Straight from UM AD Jim Hackett. Harbaugh's salary will be roughly $5M a year, plus incentives, same basic contract as 49ers.
So much for "Harbaugh is only leaving the NFL because UM overpaid him"

I picture him signing it with the note; p.s. suck it Rapaport
December 30th, 2014 at 10:18 AM ^
But... But... But... He's all about money!
I'm so glad if this is true. This is about Michigan, and it's beautiful.
December 30th, 2014 at 10:37 AM ^
you mean one of the best coaches in the country spurned the NFL, left the Super Bowl trophy on the table and came to Michigan for no other reason than he WANTS to be here?
Heads are exploding behind the shield. . . .
December 30th, 2014 at 10:19 AM ^
He wants to win for his team, and he wants to make sure his assistants are well paid.
This reminds me of another Michigan QB, a guy named Brady. He would cut his contract so his team can sign more quality free agents.

Welcome to the times.
I've been dismissing NFL chatterboxes since Ryan Leaf went #2 and Tom Brady almost didn't get drafted. Talk about buying the car without checking under the hood. NFL media folk don't know people. They never did. Nothing has changed.

A big middle finger to the NFL. I can't wait to watch the money whore divas fall over themselves trying to explain this one.
December 30th, 2014 at 10:21 AM ^
Ugh, enough with unnamed, unaccountable sources...
What's that you say? Directly from the UM AD? And he was willing to be quoted on the record? And a document available through the Freedom of Information Act will shortly be signed and then visible to the public?
Sorry, you have been banished by the NFL Reporters Guild of America on the grounds of actually being a journalist.
Thanks JUB, someone has to do this right... (also Feldman, Brian, et al)
December 30th, 2014 at 10:22 AM ^
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Fucking losers.
And we're about to get some awesome assistants and pay them accordingly. SUCK IT WORLD!!!

Seriously guys ... this is ridiculous if true. Dude's market value was minimum 7M. John makes 7M.
I am sure there are incentives in it for NCs and playoffs and such but damn.
Jim you can do no wrong from here - we grant you whatever you want.
And that 5M includes NEVER BUYING A DINNER EVER AGAIN IN AA or ANYWHERE A UM FAN IS.
December 30th, 2014 at 10:27 AM ^
And can get up to $8 million if we win a national championship.
So the NFL fuckers will focus on the high end of an incentive based contract.
I'm sure Nick Saban's agent is pissed.

Today, for the first time in a long time, I will wear my Michigan gear out in public with pride.
I might just randomly yell "BOO-YA" at strangers in Sparty gear as well.
I'll have to get this dust out of my eyes first. So proud.

THE TEAM, THE TEAM, THE TEAM!
Wow what a guy.
December 30th, 2014 at 10:25 AM ^
Contracts like this often have a lot of money hidden in the details. If he's getting $5m per year with a $40m signing bonus, then that's riskier for Michigan than $8m/year straight up.
That said, if this is basically true, that's a tremendous action on his part.

Or for a Spartan slappie for that matter. The contract details will be made public. There's no point is misrepresenting the nature of it. What BS reason would you think they would have for doing that anyhow?
December 30th, 2014 at 10:25 AM ^
Time for NFL writers to start playing up the mid-life crisis angle on this story, IMO.
December 30th, 2014 at 10:25 AM ^
Either Harbaugh has gotten some NFL desires out of the way, or Brandon cocked up the 2011 search even more than we thought.

which version is more believable?

Wow. I have to admit, I am really surprised by this. Jim Harbaugh is worth $8 mil/year and he knows it, yet he is taking a good salary and assembling a well paid staff. This shows his dedication to winning. I haven't been this happy to be a Michigan Football fan in a long time.
I keep trying to curb my enthusiasm but every day I learn something new that keeps increasing it!
December 30th, 2014 at 10:27 AM ^
Dear Drew Sharp,
Jim knew his place all along.
Now go and fuck off. Thanks for playing, Jim will take it from here.
Remind me again why Michigan thought it had a snowball's chance at luring Harbaugh as many still think? #knowyourplace

As someone who's supposed to report news for a living, that could NOT be more unprofessional. He's not a blogger.
That's disgusting. Fuck him. Fuck him with every ounce of my being. Piece of shit.

I think it's hilarious. His opinions are inconsequential and unabashed. The guy couldn't have been more wrong, so it's time to point and laugh.
Of all the emotions swirling around this hire, the one that strikes me the oddest is the enmity at hacks who convinced themselves this wasn't happening. Break out the popcorn, guys; this is real entertainment! I'm laughing my head off.

If I was Jim, I'd answer whatever stupid question drew has today in a very polite fashion and whatever the question was I'd end with "...and oh Drew.... I know my place. It's Michigan. Michigan."
Then drop the mic. ;)
December 30th, 2014 at 10:42 AM ^
However... perhaps they can find a special place for him in the press area. Perhaps in the corner with a 'dunce' cap or something. I think he should know his place... his very special place.
December 30th, 2014 at 11:38 AM ^
I took a paid tour of Michigan Stadium a couple years ago. The press box (a friggin' cathedral, btw) has assigned seating. Drew Sharp's seat is indeed in the corner (back row, far south end).
Don't think they force him to wear a dunce cap, though. Maybe we can appeal to Hackett on that?
December 30th, 2014 at 10:28 AM ^
Good. That only makes Harbaugh to UM stronger.
Fuck the NFL and ESPN. Those guys are agenda driven hacks.

No man is more important than the team. No coach is more important than the team. The team, the team, the team.

We can hope that the "doing it for the money" narrative being pushed by a few folks around the Internet can be put to rest now. I might be a bit off here, but even if the original reported numbers were right, I still wouldn't think that money was the primary reason that Jim Harbaugh would choose to come back to Ann Arbor now. I like to believe he genuinely wants to be the person that fixes what has going awry and that's fine.
December 30th, 2014 at 10:40 AM ^
Favorite clapping .gif here.
December 30th, 2014 at 10:30 AM ^
Hahaha and so one of the narratives died. He easily could've made more than that in the NFL.
I guess they'll have to go with "NFL teams didn't want him"
December 30th, 2014 at 10:30 AM ^
I've stated this before but the anticipation of hearing speak ABOUT the Michigan, not speculation etc., at the press conference is going to be absolutely fantastic. Details coming out like this, wanting more pay for assistants, just make it better and better. This is going to be quite a ride.
