Nussmeier looks to be going to Florida

Submitted by Moe on

Not a huge surprise, as the new coach will probably look for a different OC (I heard ole #6 for Michigan is a strong candidate).  I wish him well in the future.

Michigan offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier is expected to be named to the same position at Florida per a source. http://t.co/buD3jvvmVs

I think he'll do well at UF, and I think he'll work well with McElwain.  Still wish Harbaugh could have had the chance to evaluate him and decide whether to keep him, but whatever.  I think Nussmeier's system was a pretty good take on a modern power-run based offense.

anybody that thinks Nuss isn't a good coach is delusional. btw has Wheatly been a OC for very long? I prefer Michigan to go hire the best OC they can, not just because the guy played here.

He gambled by coming here. I'm sure he knew there was a possibility of being 1 and done, but I give him props for trying.

I liked Nuss.  Thought he was going to do well here.  At the start of the season I argued that between Mattison and Nuss, we had (at the very least) the top3 tandem of coodinators in the conference.  Not sure how things went so far south, but that is neither here nor there.

What this just makes official, as if it wasn't already known, we'll have another OC - 3 in 3 years - for our young offense.  Hopefullly Harbaugh (if it is Harbaugh) can muster up some quick returns, or we're looking at another season of offensive despair.

Seemed like a good guy and I don't think our offensive problems were necessarily caused by him being a poor coach.  Hope he does well at UF, aside from when he plays Michigan.  Florida taking that state back from FSU wouldn't be a bad thing.

So I learned to spell "Nussmeier" for no good purpose?  Dammit.

(Actually glad for Nussmeier and hope he does well in Florida.  A one-year turnaround on offense wasn't in the cards for him at Michigan, but he's a well-regarded offensive mind who should eventually do well in Gainesville.)

Nuss - really had a tough row to hoe.  So props for trying.

But if you look at it; Harbaugh is an offensive-minded HC and like Nuss, an NFL QB.  So I would think there is some redundancy there, and I think Nuss saw that writing on the wall.

Gardner was bad this year, but I think that is more attributable to 4 previous years of poor guidance, not one year under Nussmeier.  But the O LINE did show improvement.  I wonder how much of that can be credited to Nussmeier.

situation there because Florida's offense was so damn bad this year.  Its a lot like Casteel at Arizona, there was no way to screw that up because they were already so bad on defense.  Nuss has the same situation at Florida even marginally better will be praised.

This was one of the more disappointing Detroit/Michigan player/coaching acquisitions and performances that I have experienced. Admittedly, it likely was far from his fault completely, but I had such high hopes with what he did in Tuscaloosa and with him replacing a guy that pretty much the entire Wolverine Nation was ready to see go because he appeared to be the only thing holding our talented offense back. Come to find out he was so successful at Bama, because it was Bama and their 2nd & 3rd string players would likely comprise a top 25 team in their own right. I guess we should've seen the writing on the wall when Saban was willing to let him walk so easily.

Remember when Nuss was going to be the solution to all of our problems? And now we all rejoice he is gone and we are sure Harbaugh will be the solution to everything......*facepalm*

I know it's less likely because he was hired last January so he wasn't that involved in recruiting current players, but were there any players who were particularly close with Nuss to the point that they may follow him to UF?
