Michigan 72, Coppin State 56
LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR
Michigan easily dispatched an overmatched Coppin State squad to snap their four-game losing streak, coasting to a 16-point victory that wasn't as close as the score would indicate. The above GIF is more representative.
Ricky Doyle led the team with a career-high 16 points, going 6/7 from the field; he could've had even more if not for a 4/9 mark from the free-throw line. Derrick Walton recorded a career high in assists for the second straight year against CSU, dishing out nine in addition to scoring nine points.
Zak Irvin hit 3/7 three-pointers on his way to 13 points while hauling in seven boards. Caris LeVert did solid work on the glass as well, pulling down eight rebounds on top of his eight points. Kam Chatman added nine points, Mark Donnal eight, and the bench got plenty of run.
That included Austin Hatch, who tallied his first official career point at the line after getting fouled on a three-pointer that he very nearly sunk. After Hatch narrowly missed another opportunity from the corner, John Beilein called timeout to sub him out and allow the crowd a chance to give him a standing ovation. It was quite a moment to cap off a much-needed win.

Yet another classy move by Coach B.

Classy is great. But what has happened to the team that should have beat Villanova and the rest of the chumps (besides UA)?????
Feeling disappointed right now about this team. Showed a lot of promise then backtracked significantly.
Coaches and players must step up and prepare for a brutal next 90 days.

He basically gave the most general and truthful statements ever. Something like "whatever will happen, will happen and whatever won't happen, won't happen."
Glean from that what you will or twitter stalk every sports journalist west of the Mississippi. They all seem to be uniting in JH to UM talk.

Not enough Harbaugh content.

If anyone thinks we can take anything from this game going forward into B1G play, you are tremendously misguided. We still have many things to work on, things that have yet to corrected and things that are important when we don't play severely undermatched teams. I take nothing away from this game other than that we won.

No. No one thinks that.

Very very unimpressive victory. Coppin State being ranked 300+ in KenPom helped hide the fact that the team was complete dogshit again. I'm not sure why the write-up says that the game wasn't as close as the score indicates. The lead hovered in the 20 range for about 20 minutes of game time. A good team would have easily beaten us by double digits.

I'm upbeat for the win, but very realistic about the team. As a fan of Michigan basketball, and based on my knowledge of the game. THEY ARE IN TROUBLE!
For example...that team (Coppin State) was small and the inside game wasn't strong by Michigan. They attacked but in spurts. Ricky Doyle is a diamond in the rough, just needs to stop thinking and push his will. Irving slashed a couple of times, they need a lot more of that. And Donnal/ Chatman/ Dawkins need to get closer to the rim, GET RED HOT THERE, then move out to the arch. TWO POINTS are better than none.

Shooting woes reappeared in the 2nd Half. Ugh.
December 23rd, 2014 at 2:23 PM ^
They were 2-12 from 3 in the second half, 2-10 if you count the starters shots. Not good.
