CC: Afternoon Harbaugh buzz (Steve Deace, Rivals, 247 -Lorenz)

Submitted by BeatOSU52 on

Long time GBW contributor (and also a political guy), Steve Deace had recently this to say about the situation via twitter:

Couple of sources I trust the most, who are typically right on about Michigan-related stuff, are saying for sure that Jimmy is coming home.

— Steve Deace (@SteveDeaceShow) December 22, 2014

Meanwhile, on the Fort ($)(Rivals.com), a long-time poster who is being backed by all the Rivals posters as always being dead-on when he posts inside information, is saying he's very close to the situation and that it's a 100% done deal.

Finally, 247's Steve Lorenz makes his crystal ball prediction if Harbaugh comes to UofM or not (spoiler: it's good). Link: Here

I'm not fully in the "It's Happening!!" crowd but I do believe that a lack of an offical "No" from JH is a good thing.

Get Jim Harbaugh

I love seeing Sparty fans claim that Harbaugh is overrated. It doesn't matter who Michigan would get. In their minds, their football program will never fall behind that of Michigan's again and we will struggle to beat them annually. We could get Saban and they would say, "BRING IT! WE WILL OWN YOU STILL."

I personally think Harbaugh is one of the best coaches in the US at any level.  And there are probably some UM fans that STILL think he's better that he is.

For example, if he comes here he will still need a year or two to really get us going IMO.  But I fully expect we'll be good in 2016 and humming by 2017.

Yup.  Our roster is stocked with tons of talent at nearly every position.  The biggest question mark might be at QB and I think Jim is pretty good with that position.  It's not like he's inheriting a program with only a few linemen...or one devastated by transfers...we might not compete for NC in year 1 (2 or 3), but we'll be back to competing for the conference immediately and not having to worry about losing to teams like Minnesota.

The original Sparty Logic was that UM fans were arrogant and delusional to even think JH would ever leave the NFL for Ann Arbor.  Now that it looks like a cloud of Nirvana may desend over Ann Arbor, their new tune is "Harbough is overrated/will struggle at Michigan/the UM program is dead".

Sparty On!

The narrrative change in 4 weeks is amazing

It began with you guys are so arrogant for thinking one of the best coaches in football would even look your way.... to full circle to, he is an average coach who is 29-21 at the NCAA level and has never won a championship at any level.  And oh yeah he is only coming because there are no NFL options.  In between were all various "OMG Hackett is such an idiot! Why did it not take Wiscy 4 weeks, why did it not take Neb 4 weeks, Florida!"  and "wow they are killing themslves, all the great coaches (i.e. uhh Mike Riley, and uhh McElwain are off the market now) - what a tragic mistake!!

The last phase to be spun is "haha those fools! Hired a coach who is going to be gone in 1 year, 2 years top! He is  just using UM to get back to the NFL."  (because clearly he had no NFL interest this year)

Sparty fans and Buckeye fans have gone from you'll never get Harbaugh to saying he isn't any good anyways. They called us desperate for making him the highest paid coach in CFB. I don't care if we're desperate if that gets us him. Turning around three teams in three opportunities is a pretty good track record if you ask me.

it's not 100% until jimmy signs on the dotted line!  that said, i'm very impressed with what the AD has done: highest paid coach? check. extra money for assistants? check. total control of program? check.  these are things dave brandon/mary sue never would have conceeded to.  well done hackett and co.  now jimmy, don't fuck us!!

gna be a lot to pos-bang about.

what are the chances that jim harbaugh becomes available from the idiot 49ers, we get a change in university president, change in athletic director, and the head coach fired all in the same year?  just absolutely unbelievable, and a lot to be grateful/bang for.
