OSU vs. MSU - Prediction thread

Submitted by Drew_Silver on

In the B1G's other marquee matchup  this weekend (besides UofM vs. NU)

Spartans meet the Buckeyes, I generally root for State every game they play besides against Michigan, I really can't root for the bucks

state is 18-5 in nov under mark d.

bucks have a 20 game B1G regular season winning streak - I would love to see snapped

I think Spartans win a close game

(EDIT) updated to reflect the proper home away naming protocol

Tomorrow, 8:00 PM on ABC, ESP3
Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, Michigan
13Ohio State
Buckeyes
(7-1)

7Michigan State
Spartans
(7-1)

Valenti may be the main reasaon I want OSU to win. And I want all the radio talking heads to shut the fuck up about how terrible the playoff ranking is that they don't take into account how great MSU's loss is. IF ONLY MSU PLAYED AKRON INSTEAD OF OREGON!

In the Playoff Race, there are 3 elimination games in the Top 14 One-Loss-Or-Better Club*.

Elimination Games

Away Home
#7 Kansas St #6 TCU
#14 Ohio St #8 Michigan St
#10 Notre Dame #9 Arizona St

OLOB Club Members vs Other Top 25

Away Home
#4 Oregon #17 Utah
#5 Alabama #16 LSU
#12 Baylor #15 Oklahoma

I'm gonna predict that from the Exactly One-Loss Club, we'll see the 3 guaranteed losses plus 1 more, leaving 9 in a Top ~10 One-Loss-or-Better Club.

*13 teams.  Ole Miss has two losses and I'm ignoring #22 7-1 Duke. Here's an interesting thought. Duke wins out including beating an undefeated FSU in the ACC Championship Game. If league championships matter, Duke should get in before FSU, correct? But I still don't think Duke would have a Top 4 resume, even with the FSU win. Does that mean that a one-loss FSU team gets left out? Hmmmmnnnn...

OSU to win. It's not rooting for them, but the B1G Ten. As the new playoff system takes shape, in order for the B1G to be taken seriously, Michigan and OSU must be the face of the conference. There's a reason why people consider the B1G soft. You can't have msu---a 3rd tier B1G program---being the representative of the B1G. You need Michigan and OSU first, PSU, Wisc, and Neb, second, then everyone else.

There's a reason B1G football is getting no respect. Call it arrogance if you want, but the truth is: Michigan and Ohio State, then PSU, NEB, and WISC., and then everyone else. In the years it's an "everyone else" team, the B1G will get no respect.

Sadly I'm looking forward to this game more than any Michigan game this year. Last two meetings have been entertaing games. I've got MSU winning by 10. Barrett will struggle along with their running game.

Interestingly, Massey is putting out a 65% estimated win probability (for Michigan State - thanks, julesh, for asking for clarification. My bad) and a 38-33 median predicted score based on the simulations. My personal hope for the game, of course, is the one I have every time these two teams meet and that is to see Spartan Stadium scooped from the face of the Earth by an alien excavator sometime during the game.

As much as it prompts the gag reflex, I am pulling for OSU here. I only know a couple Buckeyes and they are not rabid fans. However, I am surrounded by Sparties, many of them chest-beating bandwagon jumpers. OSU wins 23-21

I cannot possibly root for either team, but if you're asking for a prediction, I'm going with MSU by 3-7 points. OSU has not played anyone this year, and they've still lost to Va Tech and nearly lost to Penn State. MSU has played Oregon (and lost) and beat Nebraska in addition to thumping everyone else. Unless JT Barrett can hit long throws (which he hasn't done much of yet this year) then Ohio State won't be able to score enough as MSU puts up 30+ points.

If OSU beats them by 27 and we beat OSU by 28+, we could still celebrate winning the Tri-Wizard Tournament.
Oh, wait a minute. Hardly any of us could celebrate that because most of us are muggles.

wins this game if they don't let Langford and Hill get state into short yardage situations and force cook to see an actual pass rush... I want osu to win just so the msu fans can stfu...
