Sorry if already asked: what's the downside to firing DB now...

And promoting an interim AD from within? I would imagine taking that action would pacify the fanbase and possibly hedge the almost daily shitstorms.

The President and the schools counsel would have to deal with DB, but it seems as if they have cause. Well, I'd imagine they had cause before with Gibbonsgate, Coke gate, and shanegate.

But that legal battle is something they would have to deal with anyway, if they're not already dealing with it. That holds especially true if what greg Henson said is true, about schlissel asking for DB's resignation.

It would also allow us to send out preliminary feelers and vet AD and HC candidates without obstruction.

I know there a million and a half threads about this stuff, and that I should quit drinking and go to bed, but there are some pretty well informed people on this board that could help me understand what downsides there are for axing DB right now

So if we fire Brandon today or tomorrow, I can't imagine many around here who would not be thrilled.  However, aren't most AD changes at the end of the academic year?

Wouldn't that mean an interim AD would be in charge of a coaching search and the hiring / contract negotiation process?  I could see an interim being a constraint because I personally wouldn't take a job if I didn't know who my long term boss would be.

I think the front page is clear that the ball is already rolling. Brian suggests mid november and I would think that's a consequence of jumping through all the requisite hoops from a legal/contractual standpoint.

What I gathered from Brian's post was that brandons keeping the seat warm until a search committee is formed and does its due diligence.
If that's true why can they not fire him and have an interim guy hold things down for a few weeks.

Dave brandons presence is toxic.

The man is holding mandatory meetings with coaches to spew Bullshit. Dont the coaches have more important things to do like...ummm... Coach. Or in hokes case, practice like a champion.

Lack of carnival atmosphere is the only downside that I can think of....

If he (or hoke) leaves....who's our next victim??

I'd imagine that other schools are well aware of our situation, some possibly even sympathetic. But BC, UCONN, and Arkansas have to know we're considering their guys. It seems like the firing is more of a formality that everyone's waiting for. That's why I'm not sure that the timing would affect the candidates contracts at their current schools. Plus, Saban had an idea extension sitting on his desk for a while last fall while his name was being brought up for the Texas job ( I know, apples and oranges)

I assume we want to have a deal in place with a new AD before Brandon is actually fired.

Doesn't that sound like a good idea?!?

is no downside to it at all, but as it has been pointed out there is no one currently in the athletics department should be made into an interm AD... now if Bruce Madej was still around he would be able to do it on the short term...

the only other way to do it is how Nebraska did it in 2007 when they fired their AD and then put Tom Osborne in charge as the interm AD and then was made the full time AD until he stepped down in 2010... but this won't happen since Lloyd is retired and wants to stay that way...

Nothing! At this point firing hokey and Brandon makes no difference on the outcome of the season. Fire them now!

I'd assume to some extent contracts and money, but there should be pretty clear mutual interest to just quietly settle, save some dignity and resign. Each day Brandon makes himself look worse. Each day he makes the University look worse. It seems like each side would be willing to take a little hit here to save some face as soon as possible.

Schlissel has the inside scoop on donors, regents, contract negotiations, etc., etc. etc. Your question can not be answered meaningfully without access to this inside info. You should ask Schlissel.

Believe that Brandon hasn't come out publicly and denied his horrible emails. You would think he would at least lie about it, instead he just says he doesn't read blogs. Wow. Just wow. The douchebaggery is unprecedented.

The downside is that there should be some respect for the process. The President and Regents need a high comfort level with the decision.

Which means we should be making ourselves heard. Push the alumni club and student government to adopt resolutions and statements. Show up to the Indiana game with banners.

There are always pluses and minuses, as people have noted.

I believe the sooner we say goodbye to Dave Brandon, the sooner we eliminate this toxic atmosphere and begin building the future.

The sooner we say goodbye to Brady Hoke, the sooner we get beyond his depressing incompetence, and begin to restructure and renew our football program.
