Evening Games Open Thread
I'm not going to lie, I started this thread merely because I want to talk about the hilarity of the fact that we're about to watch Rutgers play their first B1G game.
Biggest night for Rutgers football since they won their last National Championship... In 1869?

Iowa St kicker missed but Iowa called TO very late. So he got to kick again. And he makes it second time.
Big 10 football.

Why do coaches continue to do the TO right before the kick? It's a lose-lose situation. Either he makes it and is confident he'll do it again, or he misses it and gets another chance. Hardly is it ever a make-miss. I get take a TO after they line up to make him stay out there a little while, but never, ever should you call a TO right before he kicks. Ferentz is such an ass.

I saw it work in a game last year. I forget who was playing, but they indeed went make-miss. That said, I've seen miss-make multiple times, so it seems dubious as a strategy.

Well, if Iowa State had to win something, it may as well be the CyHawk. It's rather a shame that it was redesigned, because I liked the idea of a trophy which depicted a man and his family looking as if they were going to throw up in a bucket of corn.

Until proven otherwise we, as Michigan fans, should not be laughing at Rutgers. Let's be concerned with our own teams' many issues.
That game at Rutgers is not a gimme.

Go Rutgers!! I'm cool withUM coming in and taking Peppers, etc but I hate how Penn St gets so many Jersey kids. Plus Franklin's dismissive attitude towards Rutgers. If Rutgers could only have one more win this season I want it to be tonight.

Why are there a bunch of Rutgers fans literally standing in the middle of the hedges? You ever heard of sidewalks, people?
September 13th, 2014 at 7:50 PM ^
It's hedge fun!!

Hedge knights?

BTN is trying so hard to make Rutgers happen.
I swear, do you ever hear another network use the word "footprint" when previewing a football game?
Also, great high school band they have out there in New Jersey.

Go Rutgers!!!!!! Welcome to the B1G! Penn State makes me sick - eff them.

Before the SEC had 4 really ELITE teams and the rest of the league was average or trash. But those 3-4 teams were 3-4 of the best in the country.
But now? Eeek, this is just GREAT football. And it doesn't include Alabama, Auburn or LSU. Texas A&M is now a quality team...and of this and no Florida or Tennessee.
It's gotten to the point where the league is so deep. Just like B1G basketball, where it doesn't matter who's playing in the B1G. If it's the top half of the league, it's some high quality basketball and they can beat 95% of the country on any given day.
Only difference is SEC has won the national championships in football and the B1G hasn't in basketball (even though it's harder).

There is a guy on a horse in plastic knight armor.
Who are these people? Why do we have to play them?
September 13th, 2014 at 8:05 PM ^
Gurley is a beast....

That run was amazing...this game is awesome.

There were two teams playing football in 1869. And Rutgers claims a national title.
Just why.
And I seriously doubt either team feels this game is a true rivalry in the sense of the burning hatred rivalry games are supposed to generate.
The last time they played, I was three days away from being two months old.
September 13th, 2014 at 8:19 PM ^
The only reason Rutgers beat Princeton in the first game was because shortly before halftime, the Princeton coaches mismanaged the hour glass.
They finished the season ranked #1 and #2.

Bando, you're on fire tonight in this thread.
September 13th, 2014 at 8:11 PM ^
Well, for the three or four M fans who were hoping to write off our performance last week on account of Notre Dame being a powerhouse this year . . .
September 13th, 2014 at 8:29 PM ^
It is called rationalization Mr. Selleck.
If Kelly was able to field a "national playoff" team missing 6 players, including 50% of its secondary, and playing 19 FR and RS FR while breaking in 2 NEW coordinators - he is the new Nick Saban. I am sure they are a solid team but when you have a very good QB it hides a lot of issues. ND vs UM 2014 was the reversal of UM vs ND 2013. One team had great QB play in both games and it made it hide a lot of issues.
That said I expect Purdue to get smoked later tonight. But ND to have trouble with FSU USC Stanford ASU blah blah.

September 13th, 2014 at 8:18 PM ^
*Disclaimer - my brother went to UGA
Come on Dawgs!!!!!
September 13th, 2014 at 8:19 PM ^
Terrible grounding call on UGA...the ball was kicked!
September 13th, 2014 at 8:20 PM ^
...and throw it at the receivers feet. And it got kicked. That's not grounding.

Meanwhile, if the referee is to be believed in Piscataway, hjgprggjps was called against gjrgjprwrkg, number kdlghlgg on the offense, and it was apparently 10 yards (holding, yes, but you had to see it because the mic is inadequate). Probably should have the mic checked at some point.

Game is being played in Wales
September 13th, 2014 at 8:27 PM ^
