We ARE Michigan

Submitted by Cold War on

The winningest program ever. Most winning seasons. Most undefeated seasons. The ones who taught Notre Dame how to play football. Holders of the all-time single game attendance mark.

We play in the Big House. We wear the winged helmet. The Victors is the greatest fight song ever. Eleven national titles, and we've turned down five. Forty two freaking Big Ten titles.

Yost. Crisler. Elliot. Schembechler. Oosterbaan. Kramer. Ford. Harmon. Woodson. Howard.

Fergodsake, I'm proud to be a Michigan Man. And oh, yes, our rivals are Ohio and little brother.  Did anyone stop calling us scUM or tsun when things were lean for them? Hell no.

When times are tough, you embrace all of this. You don't toss it away.

We're not the Michigan of old? Always have been, and always will be.

Do you guys who are miserable, bitter assholes have to respond to every positive post with something miserable, bitter, and assholey?  We get it.  Coach Hoke is a terrible coach (and probably a terrible man), Michigan will never get to another meaningful bowl game, the only history that's relevant is the X years since we last beat OSU or MSU, and all of this is the fault of our fans who like and support their school even when its football team isn't winning games.

There are people around, believe it or not, who enjoy Michigan football because they're proud of their school and they like football, they don't take watching sports so seriously that it can ruin their lives, and they don't shit their pants every time a game doesn't go as they'd like.  You don't need to remind us that we should hate, fire, and kill everyone every time that you see the slightest glimmer of positivity or optimism.  Believe me, we all know how you feel by now.

Wow.  Assuming no sarcasm, I'm humbled and a little stunned by how classy and thoughtful this response is, even after I (probably unnecessarily) dropped an "asshole" charge.  Thank you.  No offense intended, obviously, and thanks for this comment.

Well a Turd would naturally drop an asshole so no one should be surprised.

Oops.... wait it's the other way around.

BOOM! I'll be here all week ;)

p.s. I think there is room for the "sunshine" crowd and the "emo" crowd.  Both are here for the same cause.  We express things differently.  It's not a degree of caring or not caring - we wouldn't be around if we didn't care.  And the most dangerous thing to a program is apathy which frankly I saw about 8-9 games into last year.  I do fear if things begin to really turn in the next 4 weeks for the wrong it is going to happen even earlier this year.  So it is better that there is emotional capital being spent - positive or negative, then none at all - so be careful what you wish for as apathy is a dark place ,see Detroit Lions in the last 3-4 years of Millen era when just about everyone gave up.

p.s.s.  I feel REALLY bad for you guys when you type "I just started watching UM football in 2008, 2009 etc"  At least us older dudes have some great memories.

I agree with everything here.  I do think there's third non-apathetic group (in addition to the "sunshine" and "emo" groups), which is the "needs more information" group.  That's where I am right now.  This is a put up or shut up year for the coaches, in my opinion, but I'm very willing to let the season play out a bit before really judging what we have in Hoke/Nussmeier/Mattison.

Man am I glad to hear you admit it! Everyone is tired of not being good, and nobody "accepts" losing -- least of all Coach Hoke. I'll bet you if you had a candid convo with him he'd tell you that he goes home every night dog ass tired, wakes up a the crack of dawn, that he's frustrated as hell, and that he worries nonstop about why his team isn't what Michigan deserves. You and others like you never stop with your degradation, snarky comments and nit picking yet all you are is a butt sniffer. You're not the guy out there doing it, the guy busting his ass for his team and his university. You're just the guy watching them and complaining about those that are doing it aren't good enough for your taste. Worse still, when anyone shows positivity, perspective, or tries to she light on the possible underlying causes (beyond, "dur hur ... Hoke sucks") you shit on them. But again, glad you're acknowledging your assholeness.

Quite happy actually. Life would be perfect if Michigan could beat some Rivals. I'll sleep easy tonight knowing we got you on the scene turning the program around. Go Blue!

Doesn't sound like it. All you do is post negativity -- that's not happy. You're not fooling me. Your snarky, cool guy attitude is pathetic IMO. All I'm adding is perspective and positivity. You? Not so much. Which, in general, is more conducive to growth and progress, a bitter entitled negative attitude, or a positive one?

Coming from the guy getting on long after the convo has ended posting his snarky comments that are actually putting down posters. You've got some issues man. Keep replying to every post you don't like with your words of wisdom though. Or next time, have some balls and post when people will actually see it.

I apologize for not being timely in my participation in the thread -- I was busy with my family when the OP began the discussion, and didn't see it until much later.  It has nothing to do with "balls," just other things going on in my life besides MGoBlog.  You understand that, right?  The fact that you would try to call me out for such a thing is asinine.  But then, I am beginning to see your M.O., and should expect more of the same I suppose.

Oh, and GFYCS!

He should go home worried and stressed at night after getting shit on by ND. He gets paid millions to win not get shutout. I don't care how he feels... Perform. There's a time when you keep having poor or degrading results you have to look at the root cause. What is that here? I'd say its Hoke, others have their opinion, but he is in the spotlight. Plus the fans and people who put money into the program has the right to criticize the performance of the team and coaches seeing they fund the operation. Maybe we should not get 100000 in the stadium this weekend, and prove a point.

About every negative post? Two sides of the same coin. Get off your high horse dude. Some people come on to sports forums because it is cathartic to complain. In no way shape or form does that mean that watching sports ruins my life. I am an alum. I have had season tickets for years. I was in South Bend last week. I grew up on Michigan football and will always love Michigan Football Who the fuck are you to tell me I can't be disappointed in the state of the program?

Okay, fair.  The "asshole" thing was over the top.

What's frustrating - on the MGoBlog side - is that two weeks into the season it already feels like it's going to be impossible to have any real conversation about Michigan football here.  Any thought that isn't plainly negative gets smothered by a bunch of "fire Hoke" or "Michigan football is dead" posts, which then leads to bickering like this.  I just want to let this season play out and watch, think about, and talk about what's happening.  I'm not an "everything's perfect" guy, and while I'm cheering for Hoke, there are a lot of conclusions to this season that will have me joining the call for a new coach.

It's just shitty that, with so much season left, it feels like the best / only real message board to talk about Michigan football is not going to allow for any conversation except for "Hoke sucks" - "no, you suck" - "fuck you" - "you're not a real fan" garbage.  The season started 11 days ago and we're about to get a lot of new information about this team and whether our coaches know what they're doing.  I hope that people who want to take in that information, talk about it, and use it to update their beliefs about our football program will be able to do so without having those conversations suffocated by the bickering and unrelenting negativity that we've seen over the past few days.

... so much discontent and misery ... even faux non-caring sentiments on this thread ... yet you're here ... you care even if you profess that you do not ... amazing ...

A simple, "This, too, shall pass" would've sufficed.

Michigan was essentially dormant from 1951 - 1969, excepting 1964.  Was 2011 the new 1964?  Who knows. Most Michigan fans have witnessed a lot of great football.  Barring tragedy, those fans who stay will witness championships.

Who are these assholes with the "We are mediocre" responses?

Hey there.....just go to another school to cheer for.  WTF is mediocre Dick's problem anyway?

I get it.  We lost a fucking football game 0 -31. If that makes you angry or miserable, then I would suggest that you go to the Mott Hospital for Children to see what miserable really means.  Maybe the parents of those young kids are angry because their beautiful child got cancer at age 3 or less.  I can understand that.

Our record is 1 - 1.  What is your fucking record at whatever the hell you miserable dicks do in your lives?

If anyone wants to neg bang me, then go for it.  This is total bullshit.

I'm not miserable - but I have a right to voice my discontent with the program's direction. I did not like the Hoke hire from day one and I laugh at some fans' view that we need a Michigan man to
lead the program. What's funny is most fans take Bo's words out of context. We have an AD who did a half ass job in his first coaching search and now we are stuck with a coach who can't even read a play card. Here's an idea take $3 mils of the $4 mils he makes and donate it to Mott's . By the way my financial support goes to the University and Mott's-not the athletic department-so yeah my priorities are focused on the right things.
