OT: RIP Joan Rivers
Mods, if this goes beyond the board content and deserves to be deleted, I understand but I just heard and thought folks would want to know. Link: http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=887390

RIP, Joan. Good news is, her face may still be alive!

Normally, I would say it's "too soon," but I have a feeling Ms Rivers would approve of that joke.

I loved her in Spaceballs. Hopefully her loved ones are getting through this well.

With her ability to critique fashion, I'd always wanted her to do a special "red carpet" show focused on football UNIFORMZ. Would have been too funny....
RIP Ms. Rivers.

that is a very profound concept! Great Call!

Ghost of Bcook it is your lucky day! The ghost of Joan Rivers has deemed your request worthy:

The OT Police, methinks.

I didn't post for the votes, just to inform. Everyone can voice their opinions, I suppose...as cold and heartless as they are. :-)

Until I started listening to Howard Stern about 10 years ago, I knew nothing about her other than her red carpet stuff.. and hocking things on home shopping network. But now knowing her history in comedy and how funny she was on Stern I've had a whole different opinion of her lately. She was great. And she was just on a few weeks ago... can't believe she's passed away. They always joke about it when she's on.
RIP

With both Robin Williams and now Joan Rivers passing, the world seems a lot less funny.
September 4th, 2014 at 4:10 PM ^
They both were on the Louis CK show "Louie" recently. Joan's episode was not taking the time/opportunity to be a comic for granted, and Robin's was about the legacy you leave after death and the unexpected people you may have affected (in more words and open to your own interpretation).
So bizarre.

You know, I guess I'm glad to be naive and clueless.
And yes, condolences to her family.

May want to delete the search history before Mrs. Kass gets home...

She was a great person off stage and off the mic. I used to manage at Andiamo and when she did her show every year she'd talk with all the servers and bartenders and compliment everyone and ask how they were doing. Even signed a menu out of the blue for my fiance to cheer her up from a rough day of crazy guests.
RIP Joan

Funny, ground breaking woman. She can now join Edgar in peace.

Really? You couldn't have just said it was sad for her to die and leave it at that. Would you want people to say "sad oHOWiHATEohioSTATE died, but he sucked posting on the internet"?
Gawd, can't someone just die and people feel bad without everyone having to act "cool" and rag on a dead person?

My point remains that coming on to a post about Joan Rivers being dead and saying she isn't funny seems dumb. It's not like the thread snuck up on you.
September 4th, 2014 at 4:06 PM ^
As Joan Rivers is an internationally known figure and is interwoven with the last couple generations of comedy and popular culture, it's definitely newsworthy and the thread can stand.
It's very sad that within weeks of one another, two icons of comedy have been lost. Rivers entertained across a few generations and was still very active and performing as well, so even at 81 years old, she had little intention of slowing down.
Actually, although I will probably always know her best as Dot Matrix in "Spaceballs" like some of you (her cameo in "Muppets Take Manhattan" was pretty awesome too), if you've never seen her stand up from early in her career, here's a sample from "The Ed Sullivan Show".
RIP Joan Rivers.
September 4th, 2014 at 6:07 PM ^
It's hard to come up with the comedic names that appeal to so many generations. Rivers and Williams were two of them. Both kept themselves relevant over the decades which is no small task.
I will miss her, even if it was just a random news blurb about some strongly worded opinion she expressed. I liked knowing her common set, guts and humor were there.
September 4th, 2014 at 4:08 PM ^
I wasn't a fan of her personally, but there's no denying she had a big impact on TV comedy. She was definitely a trail-blazer for women comedians. There weren't many at all when she started. RIP Joan.

Wow that is really sad. Whenever I think of Joan Rivers this is the first thing that crosses my mind.

thanks for posting. hysterical performance. gilbert kills.

I find myself saying the words "did he really just say that?" multiple times when watching his stuff. The best part though was calling Kathy Griffin "Swamp Thing."

RIP, Joan.
She guest hosted 93 times (second most) on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and was designated Permanent Guest Host from '83 to '86.
September 4th, 2014 at 4:41 PM ^
I believe David Brenner guest hosted the most. We lost him earlier in the year too :(
September 4th, 2014 at 4:43 PM ^
According to Wikipedia it was Joey Bishop at 177. Brenner had 70.
September 4th, 2014 at 4:48 PM ^
As someone who personally knew Brenner, he would always tell every single person in the room that he guest hosted the most, (regardless if fact or not), and was extremely pissed and envious he never got the gig.
September 4th, 2014 at 4:53 PM ^
Wikipedia mentions that those guest host numbers do not include the periods the three "permament" guest hosts hosted. Those three were Rivers, Garry Shandling and Jay Leno.

her daughter is the worst.
Joan shoved that talentless hack down everyones' throat for years.
Finally with her mother gone, we won't have to suffer with her existence anymore.... unless you watch QVC.
