Saturday Night Drinking, Waiting for a Thunderstorm to Go By
Mgomates,
Watching a pretty hellacious thunderstorm roll through that is temporarily interrupting the days' events. So, while I watch it I will ask - What are you drinking and what did this otherwise glorious Saturday hold for you? Any further 'buckle up' predictions from the BBQ at the Big House?
Off the tractor temporarily, hay is in the barn, rest of the chores to be done. Ran with the 5 middle children today, taught them all about insulation and drywall (basement repair) earlier today. Will be grilling venison and I will enjoy a glass of red vino at that time - Sterling Meritage
Nice. Polished off a few Oberons sitting on the dock at the lake. Gonna move to a some Founders Rubaeus - a very nice raspberry ale.
Where do you live? It hasn't rained at all today for me.
I've got money on southern Illinois/southern Indiana.
and it is now beautiful outside. about to light the BBQ and get to that glass of red wine.
and some king of beers.
If the latter who the hell cares? Kids these days will never need pens or pencils to write, it'll all be typing/tapping.
for the little ones. lots of thoughtfulness in real letters, like the 'thank you' letters we have our kids send at various times, 'get well' cards, things like that. i think it's something of a lost art and we have found people appreciate getting things like that in the snail mail.
This cracked me up. Letters, as in alphabet. He knows all of his letters, and he can write most of them. He gets hung up on weird things though, like he can't seem to figure out how to center the horizontal lines on a capital I. It ends up looking like a block C. I think writing is definitely important, and I know he is only 4, so I try not to get to frustrated. I have found he does not respond well to negative feedback. He just kind of shuts down. He's a smart kid though, with a very good memory, so he'll get it. However, I think he inherited his mom's handwriting.
I wouldn't get too worried about it. I'm in my 50s and still haven't mastered it.
I'm drinking water. Go Tribe.
The first finishers will cross the line in 120 miles downstream in Oscoda tomorrow about 11:00 AM. The Grayling Race along with The General Clinton Canoe Regatta, a 70 mile race from Cooperstown to Bainbridge, NY and the la Classique de Canots de la Mauricie, a race from La Tuque to Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, form the Triple Crown of Canoe Racing.
The race begins with a Le Mans start through the streets of Grayling to the river, the paddlers carrying their canoes. All night long, 50-80 beats per minute, plus portages at the dams on the big river. The race is also billed as the world's toughest spectator event.

Their hash tag is #HupAllNight. The paddlers switch the side they are paddling on periodically. This has to be done in unison, the changes are called out with a 'hup'.
We're supposed to get the shitty weather tomorrow here in the Detroit area, so that will be fun as I sit around in the afternoon listening to my phone and pager go off with all sorts of alerts and warnings. For the moment, however, it's a Barefoot Riesling and my laptop on the back porch watching the fireflies put on a rather nice display out in the backyard. In the distance, I can hear the dude from the thrift shop around the corner picking up the last of the furniture I placed on the curb this afternoon - our renovations / modernizations keep him in business apparently.
Biked through Queens today, the highlight being a sprint down the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, which is a park now, no traffic.
The beer store near my girlfriend's co-op built a growler filling station, so I filled up with Founders Centennial, and Dogfish Head 60 minute, which I killed at a Chinese barbecue.
I have to say, that sounds like an awesome day.
"don't ask her on a straight tequila night"
Don't let your negative points stress you out, Clark.
Celebration ale ( down to 5 cases now ) . Last thunderstorm here probably 5 years ago. 100 but 90 in the shade with very little humidity. Must conserve water here so I am drinking beer. Watering garden with recycled beer.
