Big House BBQ Open Thread
I hope no teenager is dumb enough to determine what college they're going to based on whether Adidas or Nike is producing their ridiculous socks
We are OK with it when they pick us because they think the helmets are cool. It happens almost every year. Teenagers do teenage things.
who's looking at the socks?
are they riddell helmets or bike or other?
Michigan's helmets get the attention of 10 year olds. And that's a great start. But let's give the 16-18 year olds a little more credit in how seriously they take this decision.
As someone who works with 15-18 year olds for a living, I know they give it a ton of thought and trivial things - like socks and helmets - are given appropriately trivial consideration.
still hungover from his drunken rampage thru Windsor?
Once he's feeling better, I bet he can can set us straight on the importance to recruits of the right threads for our teams.
You are supposed to be in Windsor with a bunch of hookers.
That's night time business.
Last night was eventful.
Depends on how good the kid's judgment is. Some parents need to ease up and not be helicopter parents and micromanage their lives. Other kids make completely self-destructive decisions and parents may have to weigh in a bit more.
Of course, perhaps the truly self-destructive kid is going to find a way to shoot himself in the foot no matter where he goes. But in my experience, most kids take their parent's opinions at least somewhat into account. If the kid sees school #1 as an A and school #2 as a B+, but parents are hate school #1 or rave about school #2 for logistical or academic or enviornmental reasons, then it can tip a kid to the second school.
KLS putting out some good vibes on Twitter...
I take that as meaning he has zero inside info.
good thing hoke continues to reel in some talented prospects despite last years disaster on the field...hopefully he pulls in some elite DL, theyre gonna need them. bc urban def will never slow down. just saw this article, figured id throw it out there:
http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2014/07/four-star_qb_torrance_gibson_s.html
this dude gibson is a beast...who knows if he can develop as much as a dual threat QB as troy smith or miller, but gibson easily appears (to me at least) to be the most athletically gifted of any QB meyer has recruited. hes lightning in a bottle. hokes obviously working on several athletic DL, but theyll be valued even more if having to chase around someone quicker than miller for another 3-4 yrs
wow calm down. figured id add an interesting article to the forum, didnt know where to put it...and certainly did not think so many people would get fired up over commentary. i dont follow it that closely to know where the kids day to day feelings lie, i just know i clicked on the article and saw gibson loving osu and he looked crazy athletic in the highlight clips. pretty sure i posted yesterday about how athletic cole looks and what a bright future he has, etc. i try to be honest and not too biased with opinions/comments...which is why i point out that i hope hoke keeps up the great work (and i think he will) as hes been impressive on the trail despite lack of consistent wins (which is even more impressive). i never intend to be debbie downer, just call it like i see it...and i see meyer as a total scumbag but hes always won games. and hell continue do whatever necessary to win games or players. so was simply pointing out i hope hoke can close on some elite DL prospects (and he appears to be doing well with some right now) bc osu continues to add speed and talent, thats all. nothing groundbreaking and certainly not sucking off osu...i wouldnt have posted anything, especially on thread like this, if i thought i was crushing um or hoke...just honest opinion...that kid gibson is legit athlete but so are other um and osu players/targets...and i like hokes shaping of his roster for most part, he just needs to add DL to help stop any opposing elite athletes (gibson or not) at any position, im sure most would agree
Dude, there is a time & place for being a Debbie Downer, but if there's one day of the year that's supposed to be positive and about the future of the program, (in addition to Opening Kickoff), it's today.
It's mid-summer. Any failures of last year are fading away. The 2014 season has not yet been sullied by a boneheaded playcall, interception, or heart breaking loss. We've got gobs of young talented kids on campus right now giving a serious look at committing to one of the most storied programs in college football history. We just landed Brian Cole 24 hours ago, fergodsakes.
Give it a rest man.
Once Frank Clark breaks Braxton in half again this year people will be afraid to play QB in Meijer's offense. I still relish in seeing Tebow with grass i his helmet and Braxton in pain on the ground with Frank the Tank over his bitch ass.
LOL, but I think I've read more than once that Doug and Hank Meijer (Fred's two sons that now own/ "run" Meijer) are both U of M grads.
Meijer's is where I get all my UM gear.
You "relish" seeing a college student (Braxton Miller) in "pain on the ground"?
I literally recoiled in disgust when I read that statement.
Insightful post you fucktard. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Sorry, but I've spent much of my life listening to comments like this. I don't want to read them as well.
and the growing intrigue of other developments, they wouldn't be coming on this site. UM now has more highly rated players than Ohio does this year (average consensus rank).
Also, with Ty Isaac's transfer here, we have outdone Meyer's best recruiting year at Ohio
(i.e., the remaining players on UM class from Ty Isaac's year have a higher Rivals recruiting rank than those remaining from Ohio's class).
Probably not since there are 3 or 4 major services that offer these types of services and it's how most casual followers of recruiting are able to follow high school players that don't play in their geographical vicinity.
who was way over his head. . .
were still using players recruited by a coach who attracted or retained his players illegally and who admitted lyting to the the NCAA.
Ohio played in one recorded BCS bowl and lost. Ohio had a winning record 2 out of 4 years.
UM played in one bcs bowl and won. UM had a winning record 4 out of 4 years.
Overall, UM was 33-18, Ohio was 30-10 (or 30-22 if you count vacated games as losses).
and the recruits need to be concerned more with how the teams will perform in the future (ie not based on the past (an RR-upperclassmen-depleted roster) but based on the future (Hoke's incoming recruiting classes).
So maybe he is thinking about his education.
Let me know when they find our Offense.
Last I looked the Michigan offense wih Devin Gardner put 41 on the allegedly vaunted Buckeye defense on a god damned broken foot.
The offense was poorly coordinated and with about 17 offensive line blocking schemes; but I don't see why this team shouldn't put 40 up on anybody this year.
Ohio State, not scary.
Feeling positive this afternoon.
I'm not arguing with your overall point, but OSU's defense was very average last year - not even remotely vaunted.
but I thought that one was funny.
As we say in our house, "It ok if it's funny."
