The fact that Cone is on scholarship, yet apparently can't outperform Sheridan (who seriously looks like an intermural player thrown in there) is mind-boggling. That is going down alongside the long snapper recruit as one of Lloyd's weirdest scholarship offers ever.
For that matter, it's really hard to understand how Threet, for all his inconsistency, didn't run away with the QB position in fall camp. He's clearly the only D-I level QB we have.

Cone wasn't supposed to be bad.
He just is.

It concerns me that our coaching staff really believed that Sheridan was the better QB. Furthermore, it took several games to figure it out. Threet was clearly better from the begining. The coaching staff wasted time trying to develop Sheridan into a starting QB instead of just teaching the system to the more talented QB. I am all for position battles but Sheridan does not have the arm strength to make the passes necessary to run a D1 offense. It was foolish to think that throwing accurate bubble screens would compensate for lack of arm strength.
This seems to be happening with the kick returners too. Can't we just pick a few guys and stick with them? Obviously we can't have people fumbling kickoffs but we shouldn't have guys returning them from the endzone after they just muffed the kick either. I am sorry but that comes down to coaching.
To end this on a positive note I will say that the offense looked better today against PSU, atleast when Threet was healthy. I thought the coaches had an excellent game plan. If Threet can play I think we will have a good chance of beating MSU.

Mallett really screwed us. Not only did he screw up last season by being a jerkoff, and then transfer...We would be WAAAAAY better this year if we still had Jason Forcier, who transferred when Mallett appeared to be the next QB.
THEN Weinke decommits and heads to Iowa, screwing us further.
Raise your hand if you would like a depth chart of:
Jason Forcier
Steven Threet
John Weinke
Instead of the current:
Steven Threet
Nick Sheridan (!)
Coner(!!!!)

Ok... Here are the QB's we lost, that could be playing for Michigan this year...
1. Antonio Bass - Messed up his knee in a spring game or something a few years ago (SCOUT PROFILE: http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=1215893)
2. Jason Forcier - Transfered to Stanford I believe
3. Ryan Mallet - Transfered to Arkansas
and the BIGGEST POSSIBLE QB disappointment..........
TERRELLE PRYOR COMMITTING TO OHIO STATE

He was benched. What a stupid decision by RR.
Also: we need to find LBs and DBs who want to initiate contact and can tackle.

No. No. No.
If you watched Threet walk off the field after the first drive of the 2nd half, his arm was hanging, limp. If you also noticed, they had progressively stopped calling passing plays for him (those they did call fluttered on him - a problem threet generally doesn't have), and he stopped keeping it. He was clearly hurt.

I noticed that - I thought he was carrying his arm the same way Henne was last year when his shoulder was all f'd up.

and Sheridan plays the very next series. Crazy coincidence? No. So then Sheridan proceeds to fuck up royally, of course he does! Was there ever any doubt? Jesus effing Christ. Then RR brings Threet back in. Sack. Turnover. PSU scores again and RR waves the white flag by putting Sheridan back in.
RR, please don't allow the team to disintegrate. Not now. Not yet. Not ever.

sparty looked awful against the bucks - i think UM has a shot.

Which leads me to believe it was a safety.
Sheridan had so much time to sit in the pocket and saw the rushers coming. There's no excuse as to why he didn't throw it away.

Okay, I admit I was wrong: Threet was hurt. Fuck the universe and all that.
Also, I was thinking the same thing as formerlyanon: Ortmann, if you don't catch that fucking ball it's an incomplete, McGuffie was right next to you, and we're punting. Still, though, we'd have lost that game regardless, and will lose THE REST OF OUR GAMES with Nick Sheridan as the QB. He's utterly inept.

The Chicken Theory
If we're gonna have our QB running around like a chicken with its head cut off (i.e. Sheridan). We might as well have that be a fast chicken with its head cut off (Feagin).
Seriously though, you can tell the adverse effect Sheridan coming into the game has on the team. Everybody from the O-Line to the defense plays softer because deep down they know that no matter what they do, they now have no chance to win. Sounds kinda over-pessimistic but tell me you dont see that.

We have 2 QBs that have supposed higher upsides right coming in next year. We shouldn't be saving him for one extra year of QB play with that kind of backup plan, IMO. As far as your point that "He wasn't going to win the game, so it would be kinda pointless to put him in," I could say the same thing about Sheridan. But I agree with you that Feagin won't be a QB, he'll be a slot receiver. Soo...
As far as slot, is it really that much of a necessity to save him? Other than Odoms, none of the other slot guys have produced (unless you count Koger as a slot guy). If he's going to be a slot guy, why not get him out there now and get experience? We already have 1-3 guys in the next class as slot guys. Feagin is just getting buried in a depth chart. Maybe that's where he belongs, but its my opinion why not throw him in the mix when you're struggling instead of gambling he may be good later.
Edit: I will admit being wrong if Feagin just sucks absolute balls, which me might if he has no chance of beating out Sheridan. At slot, I'm not sure who he starts over at this point. We don't appear to go to anyone other than stonum/koger in the slot much.
