HAHA.
Never understood trading up one pick. The Vikings were unlikely to pick up Gilbert. That's a waste of a late round pick after a great move to get a 1st round pick next year.
Also, every pick that passes without Johnny getting picked, the better he's going to be. If he went first overall, he'd be a bust. If he slips to the 2nd, he'll be a HOF. It's a fine line of when to pick him.
Lastly, there are some better CBs in this draft than Gilbert. Poor pick by the Browns.
Some compare him to Tarkenton, but I don't know if he has the necessary maturity to succeed at this level.
So I'm guessing he isn't a HOF. He has plenty of flaws, but he also makes a ton of plays. I think he'll be a middle of the road QB for a while before breaking down in the NFL. Never a star, always exciting. I'm just saying, with a chip on his shoulder, he's a guy that will make the most of that motivation.
Someone might get a steal with Carr- he's going to be undervalued because his brother played on a team with a bunch of washed-up olinemen.
They were #3 in the country in defensive FEI last year, behind Stanford and MSU.
They were also #3 in 2011, behind Alabama and LSU.
(They were #30 the year in between, which isn't terrible. They haven't had a bad defense since '08.)
I like the pick by Cleveland. Don't take a guy that ESPN clearly is trying to sell above where you value him. Gilbert and Haden will be a great tandem. I was expecting a OT to pair with Thomas however
Wow, that was fast.
Matthews has great upside though. He'll be a badass guard right away. I think he has all the upside, but don't think he ever becomes a LT in the NFL. Think he's a RT or All-Pro OG. Matthews I think is the most well rounded right now. Better run blocker than Lewan. Hard to judge pass pro with Johnny behind him, but probably the first I would pick of the three.
Lewan has some things to work on with his hands getting too high and a few other issues, but is the most polished overall. You know what you're getting with him. If you're a pass first team, you won't do much better than Lewan.
this has to be ebron
I don't like this pick....reminds me of a slimmer pettigrew. Bring on the drops
for Barry. At least from where I'm standing.
just picked Barry Sanders!!!!
Wow Detroit took little time there - must have really wanted Ebron.
Most Lions pick ever
The Lions are all about that offense.
It's a good pick. he's a monster at the TE position. He helps out tremendously and can split out wide. The Lions need more fire power on offense, despite what people who know nothing about football say.
In what world is having four first-round picks - and that's just at the skill positions - not enough firepower on offense?
I can tell you didn't watch the Lions at all the last two years when Calvin got hurt, because it was flat out embarrassing.
Yes, whenever someone disagrees with you, they clearly didn't watch the games and know nothing about football.
/s
We have 3 TEs on the roster. We just re-signed Pettigrew. This move makes no sense.
Yes. Whenever people say things that are obviously untrue and you point them out, it must be a logical fallacy on your part.
Yes, "obviously untrue" is a synonym for "disagrees with me." Congratulations, you have an opinion, and you've done a beautiful job of confusing it with a fact.
Projection is strong with you.
We didn't have Reggie Bush two years ago, Nate Burleson was hurt at the same time, and Golden Tate wasn't even included in the "four first-rounders" stat.
The Lions are a team that is dependent on the passing game. That's who they are. That is who the front office has decided they should be.
Last year, outside of Calvin, they were fucking garbage in terms of their receiving corps. Reggie and Joique are great. They are also both RBs. The Lions need some other receiving threats. They signed Golden Tate. Now they drafted Eric Ebron. In order to run that offense you need horses, and they went out and got a few.
I remember how that exact philosophy played out 10 years ago.
Do you remember how you were employed as a football expert?
No, why don't you tell me what that's like? Is it cool, knowing stuff about football?
It's like knowing how this statement:
We didn't have Reggie Bush two years ago, Nate Burleson was hurt at the same time, and Golden Tate wasn't even included in the "four first-rounders" stat.
Is really dumb, and so you think about it and don't write it.
Finding out that you think facts are dumb tells me a lot about how your mind works, or more correctly, fails to.
Hurr durrr! I done did thinks facts are dun stupid. Durrrr! I musr dun did be a Maize n Blu Wahoo! Durrrrrr!
Cleary, TheLastHoke knows everything about football and you know nothing about football. This is an absolute fact, and it cannot be disputed. He is the supreme authority on all matters football. Do not tempt him.
Congrats! This guy is on your team! So you know you must be a winner.
I'm not on anybody's team, I just recognize an asshole when I see one.
That has nothing to do with anything.
Do you think I'm an asshole? OK.
Am I wrong? That's an entirely different ball of wax
I think you are both. However, on the latter point I'm willing to except that I MIGHT be wrong, unlike you.
I'm wrong all of the time, and when i'm wrong I admit as such. How long have you been a member of MGoBlog? If you're saying that to me you clearly have know idea what you're talking about.
Just because I'm a member doesn't mean I can remember what any member said at any point in time. You seem to have a highly inflated sense of self importance in the context of this blog. I have no idea what you've said previously here. In this conversation, at least, you're acting like an asshole.
Also, you are making what they call a straw-man argument. I never said you couldn't admit you were wrong after the fact. We have no idea yet whether this draft pick will be a success or not. I believe it won't be. You seem to think it will be, and you mock anyone who thinks so, claiming they clearly don't watch football and/or know nothing about it. That's different than admitting after the fact that you were wrong.
You wouldn't know what a straw man argument was if I took you on a hay ride and threw that shit right in your face. Good god.
Refuting an argument that no one made in the first place. That is one example of a straw man, though there are certainly more. I never argued you couldn't admit you were wrong after the fact. You refuted that, not my original argument. Straw man.
You seem to not understand the difference between refutation and abuse. If I say you'e dumb, I haven't made any sort of logical claim. I haven't refuted anything. I've merely called you dumb. It's not subject to any sort of logical fallacy because I haven't made a logical agument. I've merely called you dumb. The fact that you continue to display an inability to understand that is hilarious and shows you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Please, keep invoking logical fallacies like some sort of neckbearded king,
You did refute what I said (and did so by misconstruing my argument , comparing to unlike situations). Now like MaizeAndBlueWahoo, I will exit this conversation and leave you to wallow in your own asshattery.
Not skinny enough for my laptop yet.
