Senior Transfer: Virginia TE Jake McGee
TomVH just tweeted that Virginia's leading receiver, TE Jake McGee, is transferring and will be immediately eligible. We need a TE, and he could be a fit for Michigan. I don't know how to embed but that's the jist of it. No insider info.
I would love to have him, is it too late to retroactively add him to 27 tickets?
Welcome to the team, Jake.
Virginia's leading receiver, TE Jake McGee, is transferring, is eligible to play this season. Michigan could use a TE for this season.

Take him. It would be a great way to make up for losing Lindsay.
Can we haz nice things?
then he gets a TE and Hoke does not......pisses me off typing that because there is too much truth to it.
The Alabama transfer couldn't get through grad school admissions.

There are grad programs the athletic department can get eligible student athletes into, if they need to. They won't be ranked in the USNews articles, but they're out there. If he's academically eligible to get into an Ohio State grad program, he could get into a Michigan program. People seem to strategically forget that Ohio State isn't a terrible school.

Name one athlete who has done it.

but do you hsve any idea of what you're talking about? In my memory, we've had exactly one previous grad school transfer candidate, Jason Forcier. He didn't get past admissions.
Of course not. Especially not after 10pm on a weekend. I just think the people claiming he couldn't get into school are full of shit. Even more full of shit than I usually am.
Grad school 5th year players really aren't "transfers" from an academic viewpoint.
They're new applicants to Rackham - whether they just graduated from Michigan or Alabama.
The requirement for new applicants will be the same whether their undergrad was at Michigan or somewhere else - and we've had LOTS of athletes get 5th years by getting into Rackham.
Too soon. Too soon.
lol at little sister aka ohio. there going to win nothing again this year

Well, it's kind of moot because Florida is just about a done deal, but McGee is basically Devin Funchess. He's a good player and a big receiving threat but would've been redundant on U-M's roster and not what U-M is looking for in terms of a true blocking tight end.
Thanks Wahoo.
Since he was UVa's leading reciever, I kind of suspected that he was more a fleet of foot TE than grinding blocker TE, but figured on getting your input.
Hoped that he was the rare breed that can both block well and be a great receiving threat, but as you said, its moot with him going to Florida.
An announcement could be coming soon that McGee is transferring to Florida, where he'll likely start this season.

FWIW, a Florida beat writer says he's Florida bound:
Gators are in the mix for Virginia TE Jake McGee, who is graduating and will be eligible this season. Source says he's UF bound.

Starting to feel a tad bit snake bitten lately......
It could be worse.
It could be raining.
(this is not a weather forecast for this weekend)
Wait are we seriously lamenting the loss of a player who we knew was available 15 minutes ago?
Can he play the 5?
/basketball school
If this continues I'm going to take the Muppets videos and put them in negative tint and distort the tempo and pitch. Renaming it Steppum and will post every time bad things happen.
I think you should do that just to put on your resume - sure to get a job at Procter & Gamble?
Is it time?
You wouldn't dare.......
....would you?
If I wasn't at work this morning, the first McGary thread would have been a perfect spot.
No good things happen ever to us.
Hush. Plenty of good times around here between January 1 and April 1. It's the other months that really suck.

He's from Richmond and attended the same high school as Wilton Speight. Obviously the Michigan staff has some familiarity with the Collegiate School staff...

Even if he's a Funchess type TE being more of a big/speed/hands type of guy than a run blocker.
My first thought was no, after we just switched Heitzmann over, but KH's going to be a OL type guy primarily and pass catcher second.
But then I'm thinking of flooding one side of the field with tall heavy receivers. That would be a pain in pass coverage. And also if those big receivers can get a body on typical CB and safety types in running situations the DB is going to end up on his B.
