Graduate Transfer target OC Chad Lindsay to visit Oklahoma, Louisville
Offensive Line problems have been debated ad nauseum on here and I think most welcomed the possibility that Alabama graduate transfer Chad Lindsay, a center with some decent experience in a great program, could end up in Ann Arbor due to his Nuss connections. Brian was so confident, he said this about Lindsay in his "27 Tickets" post:
Hard to say a fifth-year transfer is a lock, but… uh… he's not coming here to play cribbage
It took 45 minutes to ruin my excitement. That's how long after the MGoBlog front pager was published it took Nick Baumgardner to publish a short article on Lindsay planning visits to Oklahoma and Louisville.

So where are the hot cribbage spots in Ann Arbor?
What if we beg him?
For the time being, I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope that Oklahoma and Louisville are his grandmothers' names.
I don't think I like our 18th best player visiting other schools.
Presumably, a guy like Lindsay is hoping to start immediately and boost his draft stock. I'm not sure that joining an admittedly struggling O-Line will help accomplish that goal.
didn't hurt lewan.
Lewan's stock was living off the previous season. If he came into his senior year without much hype, I don't know how many people would look to the Michigan OL for good draft prospects.
Because the play of his junior year made Lewan an all-Big Ten and all-american player as a senior. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be about to be a top 10 draft pick if he didn't live up the hype as a senior. Although his leadership and actions on the field could be questioned last year, his play cannot.
he has to do time, gets his wrist slapped, or is exhonerated.
I disagree. The ability to stabilize a troubled line would probably look very good to an NFL team.
In most cases, guys that are grad transfers don't choose a move with academics as their primary determinant. They do it because they want to play and their opportunity was either blocked or limited at their previous insitution.
That said, even if academics are a big factor, even the worst schools typically are strong in some academic discipline. I have no idea what Oklahoma and Louisville are known for academically, but I would hazard a guess that there is some graduate degree from those institutions that would be worth more than the paper it's printed on.
Their president once said: "We want a university that our football team can be proud of."
Take wikipedia for what it's worth, but, in regards to OU:
"The school is ranked first per capita among public universities in enrollment of National Merit Scholars and among the top ten in the graduation of Rhodes Scholars.
The second part is much more impressive. As a National Merit Scholar, I can confirm that Oklahoma offers full rides almost automatically to us. So do schools like Arizona State. My mailbox was jammed with full scholarship offers (mostly from schools that don't hold a candle to Michigan) within a week after the NMS winners were announced. So it's not quite so surprising when they have a bunch.
the pesident was "Dollar" Bill Binowski (sp?). yeah, that a$$hole was president when i was there in the early 80's. did nothing for OU; it was all about him. he left OU to run for senate in Texass, lost in the primary, and they allowed him to come back. He was later fired.
Engineering (Chem, Petroleum), Medicine and hard sciences (Chem, phys, math).
the biggest problem for OU is that it's in Oklahoma, which holds it back. their ChemE department was put on the map in the late 50's and 60's by graduates of Meechigan. one of my dad's ChemE profs at Umich went to kick start the program in the mid 50's.
I don't think he really cares that much about a piece of paper from Michigan.
His resume look like this regardless:
Chad Linsay, B.A University of Alabama
4 year letterman, football
2 time national champion
*insert graduate school here*
1 year letterman, football
*Insert NFL training camp team here*
Something tells me his resume will be fine no matter what institution he attends for a year.
If he lettered 4 times at Alabama, isn't his eligibility exhausted?
from the U of Alabama.
I think there's an opening at gaurd at OU. Don't know about UL. Honestly, I don't know if there's a much better situation for immediate high level play than at UM. He'll know the system and playbook completely already and has comfort with Nuss. But OU would be a lot closer to home for him, so who knows. Hope he comes here.
Excellent small world connection and insight. +1
RDT is that you?
I have no reason to be skeptical of an internet poster who calls himself/herself trickydick81, do I?
"he is not a crook!"
It seems a little questionable that a teacher/professor of a student would be talking about his academic success in a public forum.
I assume their faculty and other instructional staff are slightly more ethical than the football team.
But we're talking about the University of Alabama and Chad LINDSAY.
Maybe he really does like to learn and has enthusiasm for certain subjects...but just thought your class was boring. Just saying.
I don't think what you're saying is true. If it is true, you're a really bad professor.
Through the magic of internet sluthery (i.e. a Google search), I can confirm that the email address kinda checks out to someone who might know of such things.
TrickyDick81, whenever he needs to give himself the aura of expertise, makes different, seemingly contradictory claims i.e., that he is a college teacher, a research administrator, a full time doctoral student (even though he cannot properly spell it or use basic grammar).
For example, when he wants to persuade us that “Chad (Lindsay) does not care about UM academics, he says “I teach at bama and have had Chad.” Elsewhere, he claims he was a student at bama.
Although he also claims a UM degree, he seems more intent on defending OSU. He seeks to justify his qualifications for defending OSU in a thread titled: “tOSU cited for misappropriation of research funds. He says, “I work in research administration too, and this (OSU’s offense) seems pretty minor…Yeah, audit findings suck….this will amount to nothing… they are not going to take money back from OSU.”
Elsewhere, to prop up his credentials for commenting about research into online communities, he claims, “I'm a doctorial (sic) student in communication.” …He goes on to boast about his reading very difficult manuscripts that others will not but in an awkward attempt at kind condescension remarks: “their (sic) still rigorous scholars though.”
Yes, that all does jibe with what the Google says.
Yet, I remain skeptical that the poster is a college professor yet cannot spell “doctoral" or write “they're rigorous scholars” instead of "their rigorous scholars."
What real proof is provided by an email address or even a google search based on information the poster provided to you? How can any google search tell us that he really taught Chad Lindsay, let along that he did so long enough to conclude that Lindsay was not a motivated student? Could we even tell if he is a professor with an educational email address? He could be using a false name. He might have coopted someone else’s email. He could actually be associated with an educational institution yet be an office worker or laborer. He could have a spouse that is a student or employed there, etc.
He could be a crackhead
you sly dog!
are actually a detractor for us. Much easier to practice, work out, and get a masters degree at Oklahoma.
Oklahoma and Louisville? It looks like we're out of the bidding...eh em, running.
What? Okay, okay... how abut Guard? Want to start at guard? Or, RT, you want RT? Just name the spot on the line and it's yours... we'll even give you #77. Or #1... want #1?
Lindsay said a long time ago - as soon as it was made known that he was looking to transfer - that he was going to take his time looking around at potential destinations. I may be wrong, but I think Michigan was his first visit.
If a guy says he's going to look at all his options, there's no need to freak out when he doesn't decide after exploring option #1.
First off, agree on not freaking out. Not even worth a freak out if he doesn't eventually come to M. It would be nice, but one guy on the line probably isn't going to solve the problems.
That said, it was pretty easy to be hopeful that the Nuss connection would result in Lindsay committing on the spot and not shopping around.... It wouldn't have been the first time a guy said he would visit lots of places but committed before he ever got to those other places. With the logical connection in place, many (myself, definitely, and Brian, it seems) probably thought those odds were enhanced.
Would help tremendously seeing as how I saw maybe 3 guys who were ready to play in the spring game.
Besides, as Michigan fans, we should know better than to assume a transfer is ever headed to Ann Arbor, regardless of any talk pointing towards that happening. Football transfers to U of M are few and far between.
Yes, transfers to M athletics are rare, but most of the time that is because we don't pursue players through that avenue (or JUCO for that matter). This case is the first time in a while (ever?) that I can remember Michigan being outwardly interested in a transfer.
The stated justification for few transfers has been that it is difficult to get the University to accept their academic credits from other institutions (especially JUCOs). In this case, it's not actually an academic transfer. Lindsay has already graduated from UA and will be enrolling in a new academic program. I would suspect that this would make it easier to come here...but what do I know? The stated justification could be total bs.
