Cleveland.com really hopes we got it right
For a group of fans who did everything possible to destroy/discredit Michigan's football program this past year, they "really hope we got it right" with Sherrone Moore, "for the sake of the rivalry."

I have bad news if he thinks they need to rebuild the defense..

It's becoming an annual ritual for Buckeyes fans to declare that all of our good players are seventh-year seniors, only to become consternated when it becomes clear that a lot of them were, like, true sophomores
January 31st, 2024 at 1:10 PM ^
I wouldn't mind that our true sophomores stay for five more years.
January 31st, 2024 at 2:24 PM ^
They’ve been saying it since Hutch and Ojabo. “Enjoy the 1 year” with our super seniors. I guess only the rednecks down south recruit classes to take over for graduates.
February 1st, 2024 at 9:14 PM ^
In fairness, what our DL has done to their OL (and our OL to their DL) the last 3 years probably felt like an eternity to Buckeye fans.

We don't know who we are losing on D to the portal God.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:00 PM ^
Lol. And we hope Ryan day can save his own ass after he loses again to us next season. For the sake of the rivalry..
January 31st, 2024 at 1:52 PM ^
Shocking that Ryan Day isn't getting NFL head coaching jobs every off-season, given his dominance in the rivalry.
January 31st, 2024 at 2:15 PM ^
I lost a bet with OSU fan that if we beat them this year, they would fire Ryan Day. Was shocked there was not more chatter
January 31st, 2024 at 12:01 PM ^
They are so arrogant. It is not we who are their foils. Can't wait for their A&M North to go down again in November.

Just adding to the click pile.

This column sucks. This author sucks. Cleveland sucks. Ohio sucks.
January 31st, 2024 at 2:32 PM ^
Terrible piece. And no comment section, which I was looking forward to. Cleveland was a region I took care of years ago and only roots for 1 team. The browns. Sure they’ll sport a string of nuts around their necks during the game. But fall saturdays are spent watching preseason games and beating each other with dog bones.

This article has zero substance and I'm struggling to find a good reason for it to exist.
January 31st, 2024 at 3:54 PM ^
So people can share the link and generate a few cents for the website lmao
January 31st, 2024 at 12:03 PM ^
Why exactly should I give this shitty article clicks (and money)?

When did Jay leave?
January 31st, 2024 at 12:07 PM ^
not clicking that. fuck an ohio state
but I’m happy for them, or sorry it happened
January 31st, 2024 at 12:12 PM ^
I won't waste my time.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:12 PM ^
Tough talk considering your coach has lost three straight, including one to the guy Michigan just hired, and now that guy had to go out and buy a super-team for an upcoming "win or else" season.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:15 PM ^
Yet another example of Sherrone owning real estate in their heads.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:17 PM ^
How do I downvote? I’ve never done it before, can it be done on mobile? Thanks
January 31st, 2024 at 12:31 PM ^
You need a minimum of points to vote, I think it is 100. Yes, mobile works but not until you reach the threshold, then the thumbs up/down appear. I will downvote him for you, upvote you.
PS: I think points are broken right now anyway...
January 31st, 2024 at 1:07 PM ^
I noticed not too long ago that points weren't being added/removed until some time later, like a day or two. Also sometimes I click on a thread I've never seen before and one of the up/down vote icons is already shaded in blue..? Either that's a bug or someone has hacked into my account and is lurking and voting..
January 31st, 2024 at 1:44 PM ^
Rob f posted two days ago in the Mod Sticky that points are broken right now. This system software is as robust as trying to piss in a saucer.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:20 PM ^
Not wasting my time there.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:23 PM ^
Cute that a fanbase whose team hasn't beaten us since 2019 is worried about our end of the rivalry.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:26 PM ^
That's what happens when you've otherwise known nothing but winning for 20 years and think a victory in this game is a guaranteed birthright.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:55 PM ^
They are 100% convinced that their FB coaches are lily white and that the only reason they have lost the last 3 are "signs".
Buckeyes fans also completely ignore that if it was only "signs" why is Cryin Ryan replacing his OC and other coaches...
January 31st, 2024 at 1:09 PM ^
They don't even truly believe the "Signs" crap... It's just a lie that helps them get to sleep... They do, however, arrogantly believe it's their birthright to win The Game. That poison has permeated through the entire program though and I hope they keep believing it :)
January 31st, 2024 at 2:19 PM ^
Maybe a very small percentage however just take a run through the hundreds of comments on elevenwankers.com forum and none of them even contemplate that Day is the problem.
January 31st, 2024 at 3:14 PM ^
I haven't been there in a while, but I visited that site not long after their bowl game and they didn't seem very happy with Day. I saw quite a few "Third Base" references.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:26 PM ^
For the record Cleveland.com is the smoldering wreckage of what used to be the Cleveland Plain Dealer. And I've never in my life heard of "Jimmy Watkins" as he's been with them about 1.5 years and doesnt publish much.
My guess is he wrote this to get engagement from the OSU fans, not that he actually gives two shits about "the rivalry" given that he is an Ohio University grad.
Hey anybody down here who doesnt say "OMG Cheeterz" is a positive. They have completely convinced themselves that any day now the Lord God NCAA will swoop down and vacate all our wins from 21-23 and certainly vacate our NCG and B1G titles. And that a bowl ban and multiple scholarship reductions are on the way.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:34 PM ^
Came here to say this.
Cleveland.com is pure garbage that should be ignored except for something here and there from Terry Pluto/Paul Hoynes.
God I miss Hal Lebovitz

"Ask Hal The Referee" was one of my favorite columns growing up. He was the best.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:38 PM ^
Their entire fanbase has infested themselves with this incestuous panacea. I have to deal with this epidemic from Buckeyes in Southwest Florida. Its boring and explaining it to them is a waste of time. I say let them starve on their false nourishment. It is all they have.
January 31st, 2024 at 1:03 PM ^
Really shocking that Ohioans would buy into some kind of wild conspiracy theory.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:45 PM ^
And - the vernacular on 11 Warriors seems to be "TCUN" - "The Cheaters Up North" - Loss of Institutional Control, a Show Cause for the entire Michigan football staff - and, "major repurcussions" for Harbaugh's contract with LA because of the "Show Cause".
The "Show Cause" following Harbaugh and the NFL enforcing anything the NCAA may eventually say is one ongoing "gem of humor".
I'm actually wondering if there will EVER be an intelligent perspective on "11 Warriors" - and, it sounds as if "Cleveland.com" is just the same.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:48 PM ^
TCUN the Champions up north.... i'm fine with that....

I looked on 11W after the Sherrone promotion, and while there was some of what you said, it was mostly the whole "third base" thing. Which doesn't apply to Sherrone, but it's rivalry banter so I don't have a real issue with it. Then I went to RCMB and it was so much worse. They basically said everything Sherrone ever done was because of cheating, and they cited the draft positions of Michigan OL, despite the fact that the OL who won the championship hasn't been drafted yet since they were all playing for Michigan last year.
January 31st, 2024 at 2:17 PM ^
I had a buckeye fan give me the "Sherrone Moore is standing on third base" line.... My reply? I guess cryin' ryan got sent back to second, after losing to Michigan's OC.
January 31st, 2024 at 2:55 PM ^
FWIW (not much) I've always thought the "born on third base" line was incredibly entertaining and...largely bullshit.
Taking over a very successful bigtime college football program and keeping it at a high level is REALLY HARD. It is not near as hard as taking over a bigtime college football program that has NOT been successful of late (2014 Michigan) and TAKING it to a high level. That's true.
But it is really really difficult. Guess what? Ryan Day is a very capable coach and administrator who has kinda kicked ass during one of the most difficult transitions in sports history...Well, he's kicked a decent amount of ass. He obviously missed one, yeah?
What's my point? The dude is a fantastic football coach, and WE KICKED HIS BUTT 3 years in a row! That accomplishment isn't made BETTER by pretending he's bad at what he does. It's made better by saying "Yeah, he's good, but JH and Michigan were way BETTER!".
Sherrone faces a big challenge here. I hope he gets the time and resources and buy in from the AD and others to give him a chance to succeed. He wasn't "born on third base" anymore than Day was, and whatever advantages either one has is overwhelmed by the expectations and difficulties inherent in the job.

Ryan Day is a very capable coach and administrator who has kinda kicked ass during one of the most difficult transitions in sports history..
Wait, what? In what way was inheriting Urban Meyer's program "one of the most difficult transitions in sports history?"

I'm an Ohio University graduate, and I cared intensively about the rivalry several years before I ever enrolled.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:27 PM ^
After beating Penn State in a game where he found out he'd have to fill-in as head coach 18 hours before kick off, and finding out three minutes after kick-off that we couldn't pass protect vs Chop Robinson, Sherrone Moore wore his heart on his sleeve in a post-game interview with Jenny Taft and told the world how much he loved his boss and his players.
After beating Notre Dame in a game because the Irish couldn't count to eleven (presumably because of forgetting to take off their pants), Ryan Day validated the lisping octogenarian who called him soft by cutting the softest WWE promo ever, and then mosh pits with his players like a Billy Mays man-penguin before getting thoroughly outcoached by Sherrone Moore.
For the sake of the rivalry, I hope OSU got their hire right.

outstanding post. succinct, articulate, and dead on.
January 31st, 2024 at 12:55 PM ^
A small "suggestion" - regarding your perspectives on the Penn State game.
I think it was about 18 hours before the game when Moore found out he MIGHT be the head coach against Penn State. The TRO approach was still underway - and, I don't think it was "certain" that Moore would be the head coach until a few hours (or less) before kickoff.
The Buckeyes are certainly investing heavily in their '24 team - the quesiton is - in which position groups will those investments actually pay off. The Buckeyes have a strong roster - not questioniong that; however - I do believe they will take a "half step back" at the QB position. There are other areas (such as the secondary and RBs) where there should be an improvement / even higher caliber of talent. As we all know - the OL is one question mark for the Buckeyes.
Time will tell. November 30th in Columbus. Go Blue!
January 31st, 2024 at 1:02 PM ^
Oh, they'll never be short on talent and will likely and justifiably be favored this November, but the pressure is 1000% on them. If they win, yes it will suck but they HAVE to win this game; after all, they had to buy an army of five star transfers and wait for our championship roster to graduate.
We beat the best two offenses they'll ever have and then one of the best defenses they'll ever have in the three most meaningful editions of The Game and they'll never got those L's back.
