Relationships between former OSU staffers and Catapult Sports practice film archives

Submitted by Communist Football on November 21st, 2023 at 8:38 PM

Catapult Sports is a software company used by many college football teams to analyze practice video and game tape. It turns out that Joe Stanek, OSU's former Director of Football Video (2017-2020), and another former OSU assistant football video coordinator (2016-2020) now work at Catapult.

This could be a total random coincidence. But there are unsubstantiated allegations that OSU acquired Penn State's practice film from Catapult prior to their 2022 game. Does anyone in the Vast Network have information that could substantiate these claims?

This isn’t any less substantiated then the mud we’ve just been dragged through. Nothing may come of it soon or even ever considering how OSU has been treated, but there seem to be way too many coincidences between Catapult and the potential situation w Day’s brother. And it wouldn’t be shocking considering the only coach that has departed OSU in the last 40-some years has left bc of a scandal. The only one without a scandal (that I can recall) was Cooper and he got fired bc he couldn’t beat Michigan.

We get $60M a year being in the Big Ten and probably account for a third of total revenue.  I am very confident Michigan could either create their own network or sign a solo TV deal for well over $75M a year.

The Big Ten are not our friends.  They hate us and we don’t need them.  Fuck ‘em!  It’s time to move on.

Reminder than Hole claims to know who is behind this Twitter account, and he says it's legit.

I know many think Hole is just a clicks guy, but he's got access to sources within the program. I don't think he'd go spouting bullshit for clicks in the short-term while risking burning his access to the program for the future. Me thinks someone decided it was time to start leaking what Michigan knows.

For what it's worth, Dave Portnoy has started talking about this stuff. I know he's persona non grata around here, Barstool is banned yadda yadda uadda, but the dude has 3 million followers. Perhaps this will start getting traction? We can only hope.

Just rumors until a big name publishes the story and/or the random Twitter person posts some actual proof.   As much as I want to believe, it's just as likely this is an OSU fan trolling us as it is a legitimate source.

That, or they are rubbernecking at the traffic accident just in case anything comes out of the accusations.

It's one thing to follow the story.  It's another to share it and put your name on it.  As far as I know no reputable media person is actively pushing the story.  I know Hole and others have vouched for the source but they are not pushing the story.

Lastly, like I said on the other site this is too late.  The Stalions story took 2-3 weeks before Pettiti stepped in.  No way he takes action between now and Saturday.  Even if he did, an Ohio judge would grant Day a TRO

This person is using specific names and accusations. That is noteworthy. Of course, evidence needs to be provided.

I don’t think “reputable” sources have much interest in this story.  It’s old now. It will take an actual physical evidence of impermissible activity to draw interest.

Leaking this isn’t for Saturday. It’s for the days, weeks, and months afterwards. Michigan can’t let OSU’s actions go unpunished. They must respond.

Right now what they are doing is equivalent to the Doolittle Raid. Perhaps they have information that is equivalent Midway.

The level of hypocrisy and the ball-less play to try to win off the field is beyond infuriating. Ugh,

Edit: just win. You’re obviously a tougher team. Mash their pansy asses

Unless there’s true, concrete incontrovertible evidence of anything, I don’t think people, and the general public at large, are going to care about any of this. The damage to Michigan’s reputation has already been done, and anything we put out there will be chalked up to sour grapes or whataboutisms.

Michigan’s only recourse right now to shut everyone up is to win on the field. That’s the only option. Luckily for Michigan, winning on the field can hurt Ryan Day and OSU as badly, if not more, then any off field retaliation ever could.

You beat them a third year in a row, without your head coach on the sideline, without your LB coach and without the guy that seemingly everyone in the country is now attributing all of Michigan’s success to through cheating…..hooo boy, there will be nowhere for Ryan Day to hide behind anymore. It would be abject humiliation for OSU, and if Day isn’t let go, he will likely have to clean house on at least one side of the ball to save his job.

True....but then the flip-side is OSU coming out with a W and the whole world coming down hard on UM, worse than we've seen this past month.

The pressure on this team going into this game is off the charts as they carry the reputation of the entire programme and university on their shoulders.

This is so damn unfair to the young men who've been apart of this unprecedented run.

The NCAA president protects child predators?

Due to the seriousness of the charges and the catastrophic impact on competitive fairness the Buckeyes should have to forfeit any games coached by Cryan Day given this deceitful collusion. Oh the horror. Think of the children.

Well it's not. The doctor Father did not come say to his NCAA President friend that "we" need to burn down a Blueblood NCAA member since my son has done something reprehensible...allegedly.

Unless you are saying the NCAA president has lost institutional control of his vast network...then you've won me over and I offer contrition.

Catapult is a player performance software, their video analyzes and player performance and individual grading + action plans.  It relies on publically (to coaches) available all 22 film…

what am I missing, have they added some play calling or scheme deciphering elements??

(or is this just a bullshit set of rabbit hole twitter sludge? )

Honestly I've seen nothing that suggests that any of the conclusions fans are jumping to are true.  If these things are true, I really hope these cryptic rumor accounts managed to secure evidence before going online and basically alerting the perpetrators and giving them a chance to sweep the evidence away in the event they get investigated.  Otherwise we don't look much better than the OSU/MSU fans that drew all the connections to Weiss and stealing practice footage among other illegal things.

It's confirmation bias at work.  If you want to get to the endpoint of "OSU did something dirty" then you can start to find evidence that fits into this theory like former OSU staffers working for Catapult, etc and suddenly you make all these connections based on faulty assumptions.

So OSU has fans as refs doing their games and former employees as video technicians stealing practice footage from their opponents? You can't get any further away from the integrity of the game than this. Maybe only point shaving would be worse.

At this point I am just hoping for some media coverage to in some small way act as an OSU distraction this week and level the playing field on off field stuff

Really don't care if it gets picked up or whatever. If there's even a kernel of truth to it and it makes Ryan Day nervous, it's good enough for me.

Call me when/if we hit the "will Day be suspended before tomorrow's game?" stage, at this point without national media talking about it non stop(or hard evidence) we are very far behind on mutual assured destruction. At this point the only way to make up for the loss of our coaches is the same to OSU.

One of the tweets mentions osu illegally obtaining Penn states practice film in 2022z

jt tuimoloau had the game of his life against Penn st in 2022. 2 sacks, 2 ints, a forced fumble and a touchdown.

He only had 1.5 sacks, 0 ints, 0 forced fumbles in the other 12 games.

Coincidence?

It's dumb to release this stuff *now* via a Twitter account linked to program 'insiders'. It's overshadowed by rivalry week, its credibility is tarnished by the source. It just blends into the rivalry aspect and people don't even really take note of it because of course it's just Michigan trying to defend itself by throwing dirt at their archrivals.

You need to team up with credible journalists unconnected to the university, score distribution with a major outlet beyond reproach, and then nuke them in a few months when CFB news are in a lull overall i.e. ensuring that it's the top story that none of the talk shows can ignore.

In a few months, there won't be a game to play.

The goal of all the PI stuff was to destabilize our program in preparation for the Game.  We might be past the worst of it but we're still down our head coach for Saturday.

Leaking this now might not cause as much of a media stir now as later on, but if the objective is to cause some disruption to OSU before they play us, well, gotta do it now.

That thread on TOS seems like mostly fan fiction perpetuated by the same poster who got people there all lathered up that we were going to “release the dossier!” last week. They’re including killer evidence like “Catapult has an office In Massachusetts. Guess who once coached at Boston College…..Ryan Day!!”

I want to believe, but they would’ve released the evidence by now. They could have video evidence of Blackbeard on the recording our practices with a telescopes sized video camera and the b1g wouldn’t do anything by Saturday.

if they did have that evidence we’d see it on twitter now instead of LinkedIn screenshots

I haven't posted on any of this, hell on here in a hot minute.  But this stuff is right in my wheelhouse. First let me tell you my background is in counter intelligence. First in the Marine Corps (hence my name on here) and then worked for two different three letter entities before entering the private sector doing security for large corporations.

I view things thru the lens of probability and not certainty.  I think we all need to take a deep breath and see what else is dropped because thru a professional lens right now there are way too many low low probability pieces to this to make it to where its higher than 65-70%.  Right now by what is dropped it is sitting in the 15-20% area.

I am not going to break it down how I do but I will simply ask questions for us to consider, because if we want to nail these guys this TS guy is gonna have to provide WAY more than what he has. No journalist is going to report on this at this point because it's riddled with hearsay.

1. Catapult- Ok so we have some serious smoke with guys that went to work there that came out of the Ohio State Football program.  That seems like a solid link but by doing a simple search there is Michigan grads that work there as well. still not a door shut.  Why would two guys probably making less than $50-60k a year risk their entire livelihood for this? money. Ok I saw somewhere that he posted "sources confirmed" (what that means is I've heard this somewhere else, let me ask my source...source says oh yeah I've heard that...) that Day and two asst coaches are paying for stuff...How? whats the mechanism? It isn't electronic. Cash? ok sure, there will still be a trail. Won't be their personal money so where did it come from?  they speculated 5 figure...that's big money. way bigger than I'd expect.  I don't know why the rumor is they got Penn States catapult info and practice film floating around like everyone knows it...really? everyone? Until someone steps forward and says I worked at Ohio State and so and so at catapult gave me log in details...probability of this being true is 40% and I'm being nice.

2. PI firm hired- First, I really hate to say this but it's not illegal to do that and have guys hang around Ann Arbor and hopes to find someone willing to give them some dirt or find a disgruntled person.  Also, getting a coach ( a low level one at that) to give you some "dirt" isn't hard because they (like everyone) wants everyone to know they are more important than they might be.  So whether we can prove that the Days had ANY knowledge or involvement we are literally banging a spoon against a trash can and just looking like a scorned lover.  The only thing that appears to be obtained "illegally" is the spreadsheet.  First off how fucking dumb is CS for having an electronic copy. Something that nuclear is in a notebook, hand written and never out of my site.  I know there is some smoke about a hack back in August?  does anyone know if there was a forensic investigation to see where they went ? anything downloaded?  I highly doubt that anyone illegally "broke into" the system and then found it.  They would already have to know what they are looking for. I doubt (I hope) he didn't label a folder illegal shit folder. so there you go back to well if they did know then someone told them. Ok so it's a whistleblower. If not then it's someone inside the org who downloaded it onto a hard drive and hand it over. Again someone internal.  Look, I'm not trying to disparage anyone who is a PI but guys, this isn't the movies. 99.9% of these guys do not have the skill set to hack a computer system and someone that can is going to charge you a lot as a consultant because THEY are risking the most Jail time so I give the probability of Ryan Day or anyone related to him being involved with the PI stuff about 10% at best. Sorry guys but even if he hired one, it's not a punishable offense.

3. Yood and Dad connected to Baker- That is a serious jump in my eyes. Is there ANY social media with them together? at all?  like other than both are powerful men in the NE but beyond that again it is "alleged" they are close...follow me, I'm Charlie Baker...NCAA president, for me to take the word of someone who dumps me info to then IMMEDIATELY call the B1G I better know this man REALLY REALLY well or you are now going out on the limb on your OWN reputation...So someone you trust THAT MUCH to take their word, there will be a publicly found pic or connection because right now I think it's 5% probability. Yood most likely after being fired and questioned by police for both the solicitation and that guy being shot was upset about all of it and reached out to a PI group and said I have a ton of info for you and they took it the NCAA.

4. I'm not saying none of it is at all not true but I'd caution all of us from getting too excited because this is just a guy running around the house with a torch waving it at the house and threatening hoping everyone runs out.  If you want to burn the house down? you bring multiple torches and legit set that phucker on fire with no warning and burn it to the damn ground. Our back is against the wall by all accounts, we have no winning hand, wtf are we doing teasing these guys, poking the bear. Our side is absolutely embarrassing when it comes to subterfuge. our regents saying crap on twitter, there is multiple "accounts" on twitter saying the same info as each other to add validity...we've seen this before guys. 2016 a dossier was purposely leaked to a reporter to then get it in the open to then use it as "fact" for a FISA.  What they are doing here is about the same.  trying to take low probability points and get someone to print it to speak it into existence.  If we want this to go away or have the light off of us we need to stop trying to play poker and instead empty our magazine at anyone we have info on.

I truly want us to have a "binder" full of stuff to ruin these assholes but I'll settle for winning the game GOBLUE

EDIT- Forgot to put that they better fucking hope they have something real and substantial on Catapult that isn't just rumor and conjecture because you can bet your ass someone has seen this in their company and I'm sure their legal counsel will be looking at it. If they can PROVE these allegations are a complete lie, they will go after anyone who started it or said it to scare them or break them.  this is walking dangerously close to libelous and defamation.  I know they are trying to make the schools and coaches the villains but by linking personnel in the company like they are helping. better have some actual rock solid proof.
