JIM HARBAUGH APPRECIATION THREAD

Submitted by SergeantBlue on October 27th, 2023 at 8:56 AM

We have arguably the best coach in all of football, not just college!  Our program is at an incredible high, the culture is amazing and we have a great record of winning at the highest levels and with great academic success rates.  We've done all this with arguably one hand tied behind our coach's back, which is something nobody in the administration ever seems to recognize.  When the dust settles here, people need to realize this is absolutely nothing and higher-ups (regents, admin, etc.) need to understand what the fan base and university want is for Harbaugh to be our coach for as long as possible.  Nobody that is an alum at this university cares about egos at the higher ups or this ridiculous witch hunt.  Rest assured, if he leaves, funding to both the university and athletic department will fall hard and fast.

GIVE THIS MAN HIS CONTRACT AND DO IT NOW.  He is a GREAT coach!  Not re-signing him to a lengthy extension might very well have been the goal of this ridiculous smear campaign that seems to have been started by our rival.  So scream it from the rooftops! Tweet it out, make sure Warde, Ono and the regents all see this!  If you appreciate Harbaugh and want him back, let it be known!  MAKE THIS POST THE MOST LIKED IN MGoBlog HISTORY. (Mods, I don't want any of the points.  That's not what this is about).

Go Blue!

Best Head Coach in college football.  Good man who loves Michigan.  Please stay as long as you want Coach.  He is home and right where he belongs.

Hot take: in the same way that the KWIII loss to MSU had a silver lining (of getting that huge contract for Mel Tucker, although MSU got "lucky" in escaping that contract), Signalgate might increase the chance that Sherrone and Minter stay for another year, as some programs might not want to offer them a head coaching job while this is getting sorted out. Or who knows?

I'm choosing to read OP's post in James Earl Jones's voice for maximum effect.

I stand by Coach Harbaugh, and I stand by the football program. These last couple of years have been my proudest as a Michigan fan and alum. And they remain that way. Jim is exactly the right person for this job, give him his contract, and go WIN. THE. WHOLE. THING. Go Blue!

I love Harbaugh. He's weird, he's hilarious, and a fully functioning Harbauffense is a joy to watch. He bleeds Maize and Blue, but best of all, he's put together a program of absolutely great kids.

After 2020 there were two choices to make: 1) change and move on; 2) keep him and bet he could fix it.

I wasn't sure he could fix it, and was ready to move on.  He has proven me wrong a hundred times over.  This man looked himself in the mirror and said 'I'm going to fix this' - and by god, he has.  None of the bullshit surrounding the program the last 2 years - Burgergate and now Signalgate - has any meaning.  They were trash to start with and are proving to be trash as they end, also.

Harbaugh deserves every bit of credit for the turn-around the program has made, and he can dole that out to whomever he wants.

But why Burgergate and Signalgate?  Why do they even exist?  Because Warde Manuel allows them to.  He doesn't support Harbaugh and lets everything - EVERYTHING - just float around collecting bad publicity in the name of 'fair play'.  Please, Santa, send Warde into the sun.

Because if you don't, and especially if Harbaugh leaves, you'll be find yourself on a flight path to the sun...

Shared most of the same feelings after 2020. I kept saying to all my buddies if Jim can't fix it we are doomed. There is no coach better suited to get this on the right track. Therefore even though highly annoyed by results to that point I was like roll the dice and lets see what happens keeping him. I really believe had we went through another overhaul we may have never recovered to the level most like to see Michigan at. James Joseph was the right guy then and most certainly is now! Pay him!

Have been elated about having Harbaugh as a coach throughout his tenure. He embodies the spirit of MIchigan by emphasizing academics and character to as great an extent as athletic skills while demanding the most of all players in all these areas AND GETTING IT. Michigan is comprised of players who I will be proud to have as alums when their playing days at Michigan are over, and under Jim Harbaugh the percentage of the players who do graduate and become alums - a great many at all-Big 10 academic levels - has been the highest in the program's history.

Go Blue! And thank you, Jim Harbaugh!

Harbaugh is the best thing that happened to UM Football in a long time. He loves AA and he talks highly of how his kids love AA. He has roots in the community. He is an Alum and excelled everywhere he went. He is a man of good character. It will be UM's loss not to prop up one of its own. It is ridiculous how this stupid ego among UM elites sabotages it's own. Get his contract done ASAP Mr. Ono

100% I was on the fence about his first contract given they had still not beaten OSU but he swallowed his pride, made necessary changes, and started winning big games. He also did this without much institutional support and weird interference by possibly the worst governing body in the country.

Anyone else going as Jim Harbaugh/Hamburglar for Halloween?

Basically a combination of a khaki’d Harbaugh, hat, sweatshirt and whistle, but wearing a hamburglar McDonalds mask and carrying a bunch of signs (stop, yield, etc)

Love JH and hope he stays until he's 300 years old.  Unfortunately, I don't think anyone is getting any contract until we know the outcome of all this shit.

Plus, do you actually expect Warde to do anything useful??

I won a signed harbaugh football when I was a student in 2018 for filling out a gameday experience survey. I spent years telling all my friends that if it wasn’t for the 2016 mishap harbaughs perception would have been so different and that we just needed to give him time.

I just bought my first house and that signed ball is proudly displayed on the most prominent shelf in my family room

I firmly believe the same as you.  Had 2016 be officiated anywhere close to fairly, JH wins early, Urban's aura is crushed and what we are experiencing today would have happend 4-5 early earlier (~2018) due to what would have been an uptick / explosion in recruiting and breaking the OSU dominance sooner.

Obviously no one will ever know, I am just so delighted the JH is here and returned Michigan football back to the top of the college football world.  Here is the simple 3 step plan to keep it at this level...

1) SIGN THE MAN!!!  SHOW HIM THE MONEY!!!! - Parties responsible - Warde and Santa

2) Win the Natty this year - Parties responsible - 100+ players and coaching staff

3) Continue the winning culture - Parties responsible - Current underclassmen and incoming freshmen classes...

PROFIT!!!

He is honest, he cares about the kids, he cares about academics, he cares about the university, and he is a great coach. He is quirky, but so white. He was our best quarterback ever until he brought JJ here.

This is the perfect time to sign him and make it clear that we recognize that he is who is.

Love the post and enthusiasm. May I suggest that everyone take their positive thoughts and flood the President and AD emails with them? Feels like that would be more effective than a message board post

I love Jim Harbaugh! I love him always thinking outside the box, it started with the camps, but then the SEC cried and the NCAA shit it down. I firmly believe he didn’t do it to get a major leg up, I believe he did those camps because he loves football and he wanted to give every kid a chance to be seen by college coaches, even kids who didn’t have the means to attend expensive camps. My favorite thing about him is post game, every coach out there talks to the reporters and rambles on, Harbaugh immediately passes it on to his players! As he’s said “it’s about the kids” I hope he sticks around till he retires!!

Your continued support is so greatly appreciated!

Just adding my voice to the chorus of, "I love that Michigan has Jim Harbaugh, may he coach forever, roaming the sidelines, and leading this team to victory after victory!"

If I ever met Jim, I would tell him that for as impressive as the results on the field are, the results off the field are even more impressive. Every time I see one of his football players in an interview, I smile, and feel proud to share an institution with them.

I’m fine with Michigan receiving a fair and reasonable punishment for any violations it may have committed with this whole signs situation. If Michigan broke the rules, there should be a punishment.

But at the same time, if Warde/Ono let this whole situation cause them to allow Harbaugh to walk off to the NFL, then they deserve all of the blame for the inevitable fallout that would result from that. Both on and off the field.

Assuming Harbaugh doesn’t leave because he just HAS to win a Super Bowl and there’s nothing Michigan can do to dissuade him from scratching that itch, then honestly, letting Harbaugh walk should be a fireable offense for Warde. You’re not going to get anyone who is any better, and it’s not like this conference is about to get any easier.

Pay the man his fucking money, or reap the whirlwind and be ready for a return to 8-4 seasons on a regular basis.

I think you underestimate what Harbaugh has built here, his coaching tree, future pipeline of talent, etc. I doubt if he retired we would be worse than Ryan Day (ok, well not that talent laden, but Harbaugh's system has proven viable and the next coach would get 10 wins more often than not).

Edit: I meant not as many 5 stars. Our talent level and team culture is far superior.

When it was clear that Hoke would be fired, I said that the next hire would have to be a very good (preferably Harbaugh)one for me to keep my season tickets. If this athletic department does something that causes Harbaugh to leave, I would have to reconsider keeping my tickets.

Extend Harbaugh NOW!

I may have told this story about JH before but it’s been a long time…

I was at the ‘98 Indy 500 with some guys and we had infiltrated our way into the garage area with a business card, past security (yea, not happening again).  I was in the Lincoln Electric garage when I happened to see JH about 50 feet away talking to someone, he had his Pennzoil racing outfit on since he was part owner at the time. Then out of the blue, with many people around, he just walks up to me and my friend and introduces himself and chit chats with us for about 5 minutes.  Ever since then I’ve always held him up in a high regard.  I was a nobody to him and he went out of his way to spend time with us.  BTW, I did not at the time have any UM gear on so that wasn’t what drew him over to us.

Any negative press I’ve seen since then I scoff at because I know these people don’t know the real JH like I got to know him in those 5 minutes.

Screw the Suckeyes, screw Sparty, screw other naysayers and Go Blue!

Harbaugh showed me. He's a great coach. This is the best Michigan team I have ever seen. I held him responsible for 2020, said it was "over." I lay responsibility on him: for winning nonstop since, for building the best team in the country.

He's earned whatever he wants. Loyalty, tenure, money... or the loyal support of fans if he decides to do something else because the NCAA is so stupid that it's not worth the energy.

Harbaugh is the perfect coach for Michigan.  I’m extremely glad he’s leading the program.  I’m a fan, alum, and parent of multiple students at Michigan.

Who else is going to give us the referee helmet cam stare? The entertainment in that alone deserves a raise as is its innocence. Let me help you move that tree officer. Cuts his own grass and was amazed to discover Youtube tv. Climbs a backyard tree with younger sibling of a recruit. Works the chains at a high school game. Takes infield practice with major leaguers. Lives life off the field as a Dad joke. Mike Leach lives.

Go ahead find another one of these I dare ya!

Get Harbaugh a big contract.

The dude is worth it by a lot.

This recent stuff is a psyop by opponents who want to drive him off and harm Michigan.
