College Football - week six - what piques your interest?

Submitted by Amazinblu on October 3rd, 2023 at 10:10 AM

Week six of the college football season is upon us and this weekend’s matchups have a few games that could be interesting.  The games that caught my eye and their ranking follow.  Two teams (Maryland and Texas A&M) in “others receiving votes” are noted with a ranking of 26th and 28th respectively.

The Red River Rivalry / Shootout  between Oklahoma and Texas is the top game this weekend. This is their last season in the Big 12, and I have no idea if there’s such a thing as a protected rivalry in the SEC.

  • Oklahoma (12) vs Texas (3) – neutral site / Dallas at noon
  • Maryland (5-0 and 26th in the polls) at Ohio State (4) – noon
  • LSU (23) at Missouri (21) – noon
  • Alabama (11) at Texas A&M (28) – 3:30 pm
  • Kentucky (20) at Georgia (1) – 7:00 pm
  • Notre Dame (10) at Louisville (25) – 7:30 pm
  • Michigan (2) at Minnesota (NR) – 7:30 pm

The other B1G games are:

  • Nebraska at Illinois on Friday evening
  • Rutgers at Wisconsin
  • Howard at Northwestern
  • Purdue at Iowa

What games are of interest to you?  What will you be following (besides Michigan)?   Is there anything you're hoping - or expecting - to see?

I'm particularly interested in Texas v Oklahoma, and Maryland @ Ohio State.  Two SEC games - Bama @ A&M and Kentucky @ Georgia are also on my radar.

Enjoy.  Go Blue!

The Texas law that allows for direct siphoning of Athletic Department resources into money for NIL, like selling tickets to boosters, was actually AUTHORED by TAMU, but UT supported it for obvious reasons.

And it helps all TX schools recruit but UT most of all due to its tremendous resources.

So i think we're witnessing the birth of an Alabama-sized dynasty (unless federal legislation comes along and changes the NIL playing field). Texas is illustrating just how quickly a ton of money to recruiting can create a monster program.

I think everyone is forgetting who the OC is there. The man almost single handedly got his head coach fired in Miami. That one year with him at OC was "not good". Kudos to Jim for surviving the Gattis effect. I can promise you he burns it down in Maryland. Once that QB is gone its 17 pt games again.

Maryland probably wont reach 20 pts.

I'd like to see Georgia crush Kentucky. I'm getting tired of them taking recruits away from Michigan. It could get worse if they actually had a competitive program. I thought losing 21 - 0 to Iowa last year would slow them down, so I'm hoping they get exposed.

I'm kinda interested in ND at L'Ville too - it'd take a bite out of the ACC's argument if ND knocks off 2 undefeated teams (but lost at home to OSU). And the ACC has the upper hand on the SEC inter-conference this year. Crazy thought - the UK-L'Ville game in November could be the biggest ACC-SEC rivalry matchup. But if Big Ten/Pac12 > ND > ACC > SEC holds up, well...it'd be fun if the last year of the playoff is the first one without an SEC team, assuming UGA slips up.

I clearly dream about CFB way too much.

Georgia has been sleepy all year, some are starting to yell at clouds at them as they are not winning by 30 year game, they are at home hearing the doubters.... think it sets up as a wax UK day.

Would love to see A&M pull that one off just because fuck Bama.

Rest of that schedule outside OU v TX is meh, it's been a weird year - all the good games seem to be in the same week and most other weeks are lacking big matchups.

1. The Pac12 swan song being the loaded QB conference this season. Seriously, the QBs in that conference are probably better than the rest of college football combined. I find that very odd and fascinating. Really too bad that they won't be able to continue that momentum as a conference going forward.

2. Similarly I find it so odd that Alabama, Georgia, and OSU all finally have quarterback issues at the same time. Throw in PSU having a young signal caller. Nice feeling to have one of the best, most experienced QBs in the top 10.

3. Parity is fantastic, especially when we might be the best overall team. Nice to not have a death star to have to deal with.

Kentucky/Georgia for sure

if UK wins they have a legit shot at the East, and an outside shot at the playoffs, which is nuts for UK football.

also would be nice to see this good/not great Georgia team lose
