Below are the stats for each QB in their true Jr year.  They are nearly indistinguishable.

Both were blessed with a lot of talent around them including great RBs.  As well, Henne arguably had better receivers.  Sorry, but these stats say that they are absolutely in the same category.

BTW, Cade had the slightly higher percentage with less interceptions on virtually identical attempts.  Let's give the guy his due and move on.

Wasn't Brian Ferentz there when Michigan played Iowa in the B1G CG?

I think the vision was pretty obvious. "We won the west 2 years ago with Spencer Petras / Padilla combining to throw 12 TDs and 11 Ints. And the offense scoring about 22pts/game. So come here and throw like 12 TDs and 6 ints, score about 24 pts/game, win 9 games and win the west."

And as grim as the offense looks, right now they are 3-1, offense is scoring 19 pts/game, Cade has 4 TDs, 3 ints. And the schedule gets pretty easy from here on out. Still have MSU, Rutgers, Northwestern. Wisconsin still has to play OSU. 9 wins and the west crown is still fairly attainable.

Respectfully, I don’t think Cade’s comments threw Ferentz under the bus - but, he did note the involvement of the WRs and play calling. “Under the bus” might be too strong of a phrase.

"Throwing someone under the bus" isn't literal, you know. What he did is exactly what the phrase is intended to convey. He deflected any blame for the offense's poor performance and implied it was the result of the playcalling.

I've only seen lowlights of Iowa's season so far, so I'm no expert on their offense. What McNamara said probably isn't inaccurate, and Ferenz is universally considered bad at his job, but the phrase is certainly apropos.

I hear your point / perspective.  It seems like there’s a hyper sensitivity about “dissing”, and people interpreting it in a variety of ways.  Personally, I wish young adults coaches learned to communicate more effectively - view the glass as half full - and present a constructive point during interviews, press conferences, etc.

Brian Ferentz is not good at his job, and Cade’s exit from UM was a little ugly, but I don’t think he’s throwing his coach under the bus here.  He’s trying to deflect the question, it just understandably seems off because the guy he’s deferring to is under so much heat, but that’s not Cade’s fault or his problem when talking to the media.

That was a pretty mild comment given the beating he took last Saturday.  Ferentz seems to be trying to get him killed.  If he had any honor he would quit, or at least admit he doesn't know what to do and ask for some help.

So you say Cade threw Brian Ferentz under the bus.  If so, might be the first pass completed down the field to a non-TE in weeks for an Iowa QB.

I mean, not really surprised...He's not wrong either, but he could have been a little more diplomatic.

Its a Team sport: once you start isolating people into "them" instead "us" things can go badly.

“Whatever Brian thinks is the best way to get Kaleb Brown involved, I’m all for it,” McNamara said.

Versus

"We need to figure out a way to get Kaleb Brown more involved in the offense".

That's just me.

I don't see anything really wrong with what Cade said, and I certainly don't see this as throwing Brian Ferentz under the bus or any other vehicle. What he basically said is, I'm the QB. I don't call the plays or design the plays, I just run the plays. I have confidence in my receivers, and they know it, but getting them more involved in the offense, and answering questions about why they aren't, isn't my job - it's the OC's.

Seriously, what else is he supposed to say? Our OC is total shit, couldn't successfully game plan against a Pop Warner team, and is a prime example of why nepotism rules exist? It might be a nice cathartic moment, but then what? Nothing will change, and Ferentz & Ferentz will still be holding the whistles at the next practice.

Here are my dumb thoughts on Cade:

The good:

1. Led us back to beat Rutgers in 2020

2. Led us back to beat PSU in 2021

3. Beat OSU(!) and Iowa

4. Showed competency after the chaos of what was an underwhelming performance at the QB position at UofM under JH.

The bad:

1. Frustration with competition at his position, which led to poor leadership accounts

2. Awful performance against Georgia showing irreversible flaws

3. Voted team captain for 2022, and elected to not be on the sidelines or be at the games post-surgery

4. Talked poorly of team and school on podcasts with Iowa click-bait podcasters

5. Thinks higher of himself as a QB than what reality has portrayed and really is game manager

Not a fan of him.

Cade's lack of mobility was a big problem in that game.  Certainly, not the only problem, but he was a sitting duck back there.  JJ was still pretty raw when he came in, but he was able to avoid the rush and string plays out.  Cade simply couldn't do that.  Our offense's ceiling with him under center was on full display.

Can't agree with that.  He definitely deserves criticism for the bad, but... y'all we were there for the good and it was real and it was spectacular.  Think about the universe where Cade Mc isn't on our depth chart in 2020 and think about what actually happened in this universe (pandemic aside), and I'll take the latter seven days a week and twice on Saturday.

His Dad was on campus after the Hawaii game to withdraw him from his program. He decided to transfer before the UConn game where he got hurt. The injury just sped up the process. He even said that he stopped participating in team activities even though the coaches wanted him to come back and play. The injury was his out.

I'll never believe that competition was genuine. I may be misremembering — it wouldn't be the first time — but if Cade got a total of five drop-back passes without being immediately under pressure I'd be stunned. Seemed like there were breakdowns in the offensive line on almost every single pass play.

Maybe I'm misremembering. Or maybe it was a coincidence — I'm not meaning to suggest it was intentional. But man oh man, to try and make a fair evaluation of Cade's ability to lead the offense compared to JJ's based on that limited sample is a tough assignment.

(I like Cade, and I hope he does great at Iowa, but I'm glad JJ was given the starting position last year. I think, at the end of the day, that was the right choice).

His dad suggested the transfer immediately AFTER 2022 season, which is asinine.  Apparently, he didn't like the fact that Cade would have to again compete for the job and thus, saw the writing's on the wall.  Why would you encourage your son to run from the competition?  Further, who in their right mind transfers immediately after winning the Big Ten and College Playoff appearance as the starting quarterback?

That is not 'throwing under the bus.'  That is a polite and deft deflection.

Throwing under the bus would be: "We have wide receivers on this team.  I introduce them to Brian each practice.  It is like he has some brain damage or something that prevents him from remembering that we can throw the ball downfield.  Perhaps he was scarred as a child by watching receivers catching passes and getting first downs.  Maybe some kind of PTSD. "

He really wasn't harsh on Brian Ferentz, just said that it's Brian who calls the plays.

Here is what Cade said after committing to Iowa:

For the first time in a long time, McNamara felt wanted. He committed to Iowa on Dec. 1 and hasn't looked back since.

"I've been nothing but so happy that I made this decision," McNamara said.

and this:

After week 4 Iowa's offense SP+ ranking is 108-  not the shittiest but getting close.

Cade-  are you still nothing but happy about your decision??
