OT: Bronny James' cardiac arrest caused by a congenital heart defect
The doctors say it is treatable and are optimistic about a full recovery. Good news for the James family. Sources: ESPN, CBS News, AP, etc.....

Hopefully he's able to play basketball again.
Was looking forward to seeing the kid play next season. Now I don't care, just hope he's okay to play. And if he's not, that's fine too.

No my BIL says it’s because he got the Covid vaccine.
August 25th, 2023 at 11:02 PM ^
You should set him straight. Aren't you a doctor?
August 25th, 2023 at 11:11 PM ^
The one armed man got that way from his reaction to unwanted vaccination.
August 26th, 2023 at 7:39 AM ^
I've "done my own research" so I actually know more than doctors, and I always make sure to let them know this.
August 26th, 2023 at 8:30 AM ^
Haha, yes can you imagine waisting all that time and money on education and training?
August 26th, 2023 at 9:31 AM ^
Everyone knows that the best research isn’t done in fancy schmancy laboratories with state of the art equipment and statistical tools. It’s done by watching YouTube videos with clickbait titles while you sit on the toilet.

My terlit does resemble a Petri dish
August 25th, 2023 at 11:11 PM ^
I'm quite sure that's what it is. Nobody, ever, at any time died before the Covid vaccine
August 26th, 2023 at 8:59 AM ^
And, nobody died from Covid before the vaccine was available!
August 26th, 2023 at 4:54 AM ^
No one has ever had a bad reaction to such things. Just remember to get your booster every 30 days.
August 26th, 2023 at 10:40 AM ^
Really weird that this is your comment, given that no one is even remotely suggesting 30 day boosters or that the vaccines are completely free of side effects.
But blaming the Covid vaccine for Bronny's episode is like blaming the polio vaccine for getting food poisoning at Taco Bell.
Anti-vaxxers continuously ascribe issues to the vaccine that have nothing to do with it. All anyone is suggesting is: let the things that are ACTUAL problems with the Covid vaccine exist and quit trying to "post hoc ergo propter hoc" unrelated shit into its sphere.
August 26th, 2023 at 2:22 PM ^
Lmao people are still using the term anti vaxxer? 😅
August 26th, 2023 at 3:25 PM ^
...I mean yeah. It's how to describe someone who is against the Covid vaccine or others. Pretty sure people never *stopped* using the term, given its accuracy.
If it helps, I also have not stopped using the term "Outfielder" for someone who plays the outfield or "Necrophiliac" for someone who is sexually attracted to dead people.

Others disagreeing is one thing. Ascribing nonsense falsehoods to the vaccine to justify their disagreement is another. Here's the difference: "I don't eat fish. It's not for me." vs. "I don't eat fish. There are lasers in the meat that cause Alzheimer's."
If he's being sarcastic about believing this nonsense, I'll take the L.

My uncle says the same and he has an MD from the University of Facebook.
August 25th, 2023 at 9:12 PM ^
I’m just waiting to be annoyed by the memes that compare the number of congenital heart defects among Lebron’s kids vs. Michael Jordan’s kids
August 25th, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^
"Jordan kid played through that shit like a game 5 finals flu."
August 26th, 2023 at 7:20 AM ^
That's even more fun if you imagine it being delivered with a New Jersey accent on a sports radio show.
August 26th, 2023 at 9:12 AM ^
He’s more known for banging Scottie’s ex.
August 25th, 2023 at 9:17 PM ^
If there is a risk to another cardiac arrest there is no sense playing. He is certainly not one of those people where basketball is their ticket to financial success.
August 25th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
Last I heard, his family lives paycheck to paycheck 😢
August 26th, 2023 at 9:40 AM ^
"Lives on paycheck after paycheck after paycheck, for about infinity."
Fixed it.

Hats off to the USC medical staff. They saved a life.

THIS!

Weird, my crazy uncle on Facebook was 100% sure it was something else

Cousins' son played pickup hoops and went home tired and took a nap and never woke up. 16 years old with undiagnosed congenital heart issue. Cousin finds out he and both his two brothers all need pacemakers within a year of each other due to congenital issues. The youngest died at 54 in 2020 from heart failure and the oldest this past spring at 63.
My brother and I are looking over our shoulder and have cardiologists so far so good.
Godspeed Bronny.
August 25th, 2023 at 10:24 PM ^
Truly awful. Wish you the best.
August 26th, 2023 at 11:05 AM ^
There was a doctor in Saginaw (Balcueva) who had FOUR sons die at a young age, all from the same heart issue. Dr. Balcueva was a HUGE Michigan fan, buried in a Maze and Blue casket.
Just think of all the genius conspiracy theories if this happened today. The youtube "research scientists" would be coming out of the woodwork.
August 26th, 2023 at 12:25 PM ^
I am not saying it's a conspiracy but we are/were all married. Hmmnnn....?
August 25th, 2023 at 10:35 PM ^
Game over. Don’t even mess around. Curious what we’re dealing with but anything the advice is take it easy
August 25th, 2023 at 10:45 PM ^
Not a Lebron fan at all but man it is good to hear that his little boy is on the mends and still have the possibility to go after his dream of playing in the league.
my oldest is 27 and I still think of him as my little man.
August 25th, 2023 at 10:49 PM ^
I’m so torn on Lebron James.
On the one hand, he does all the right things, he’s never been in trouble of any kind, he wins, and he is a great team leader and seemingly a great parent.
On the other hand, he seems like a humongous jerk.

His brand is worth billions of dollars, his career-path, management, "character", was already being planned when he was 16, (the "hero's journey", refusal of the call, threshold, mentors, tests, return home, new life, etc.--literally all films, marketing, politicians, public figure use this, it may even be ingrained in us like language, parenthood, seeking of wisdom, etc. but I digress)
He's more like a politician or large corporation with his "interactions", it's all PR-speak.
Like many people who instinctively dislike politicans/marketers because they are not being honest in any way, nor authentic human beings, and just toting talking-points (and the converse people love politicans for their "authenticity/humanity/etc.---correctly-perceived-or-not), a lot of people are suspicious of him because frankly he isn't authentic, he speaks like an HR-dept. because that best protects the brand.
Also a lot of his things are put-ups, he never actually read any of those books he claimed he did, and when asked what he liked, he basically couldn't speak on a single thing that was in that book (lol).
For example, Jordan may be an harsh perfectionist and unrealistically expect that of everyone around him to the point of unhappiness, but he also wouldn't sit there and pretend otherwise; James is a put up, no question.
August 26th, 2023 at 7:50 AM ^
Didn't Jordan say he wouldn't ever really be "real" and stand for anything politically because "republicans buy sneakers too"? Let's not pretend like Jordan doesn't consider his brand when speaking and acting.
August 27th, 2023 at 3:28 AM ^
Lmao, you're literally citing how Jordan is transparent about him being brand whereas LeBron is quite literally not transparent about him being a brand, "more than an athlete", sure dude.
August 26th, 2023 at 7:23 AM ^
I think he draws too much fire overall, but he does seem pretty insecure.
August 26th, 2023 at 8:20 AM ^
Lebron is the man! My buddy was his chef in Cleveland. He said that family is the best!
August 25th, 2023 at 11:13 PM ^
Happy for the young man. He will ever remember himself as a fake Covid vaccine victim.
August 26th, 2023 at 8:19 AM ^
The just asking questions crowd will fall all too familiarly silent.
August 26th, 2023 at 8:39 AM ^
False flag!
August 26th, 2023 at 9:35 AM ^
I wish! They will say "of course the doctors are saying that! something, something, BIG PHARMA."
August 26th, 2023 at 5:46 PM ^
Lol here come the MAGAs
August 26th, 2023 at 8:16 PM ^
That's too bad for him. At least they didn't find out on a post mortem exam. That happens. Hopefully he can move on from this.
August 27th, 2023 at 7:22 PM ^
Seems this condition of his was known years back

From a CNN article a couple of days after Bronny James' cardiac arrest:
—
"Bronny James, who on Monday suffered a cardiac arrest and was hospitalized, had a cardiac screening several months ago as part of a program for prospective NBA players, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The screening included a transthoracic echocardiogram – which looks at blood flow through the heart and heart valves – and an EKG, which is a recording of the heart’s electrical activity, the source said. Both screenings came back with normal results.
The normal results of those tests are a good sign and likely mean the episode wasn’t caused by an anatomical preexisting problem."

That seems like an inconsistency.
