Gameday next week?
We're getting it, right? K State is about to lose, Syracuse already lost, and I don't see another game that makes more sense. I guess they could go to the Cocktail Party in Jacksonville, but I doubt in a close call that they would promote the CBS game over their own game that night. Plus I'm guessing Herbstreit is doing the game and then wouldn't have to travel. OSU-PSU is probably a better overall game, but Big Noon is already going and I doubt they'd pick PSU over Mich as the home site after we just smashed them.
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:24 PM ^
Gameday does not come to a game with a team that is 3-4, ever. This is a ridiculous thought, and to have its own thread is embarrassing. Penn state will be near top10 against #2 osu. Top 20 Kentucky vs #3 Tennessee is obvious over our game, too.
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:29 PM ^
They've already been to Knoxville twice so I assume that's out. And again, we just killed PSU and FOX is already going there, so I thought that could be a factor. I say this thinking Gameday is more about the home team, and this would be their last chance to come here for a while.
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:38 PM ^
I suppose they could come for the Illinois game, but that would be the week before OSU where I'm guessing they would go. They usually don't do the same team two weeks in a row. And I know OSU-PSU is the better game next week, that's not always the determining factor though.

Hey Kingpin, you shouldn't be getting grief for posing the question.
My thoughts are that the show has become too glitzy, they try to be cute too often like they do with every thing they do anymore, it's annoying as hell. Stick to the meat and potatoes of the sport, that's why we watch, not to have them try to be funny or cool or whatever the fuck else they think will work.
Another annoying thing is bringing Pat McAfee on in such a prominent role, he's such a blowhard know-it-all, FFS STFU sometimes Patty Boy! His picks are awful and he picked Iowa and PSU to beat us, lmao. It sure seems like they're slowly but surely phasing Corso out in a subtle way. I'm glad Pollack's role has lessened because he's a know-it-all blowhard as well.
Obviously I still watch because I love college football so much, the FOX Pregame has Turdan Meyer on it and I can't stand him, he still won't say Michigan, always referring to us as The Wolverines, grow up asshole and be professional, what a complete douche he is.
In conclusion, I would never give a fuck if Gameday ever goes to A2 again and with them not having B1G Games to do in the future, it probably will hardly ever happen unless the game we're playing is so compelling.
October 23rd, 2022 at 8:19 AM ^
I'm with you on this one, Mick. I don't need these cheesy people to ratify a Michigan game for me.
October 23rd, 2022 at 8:57 AM ^
I don't think he's getting grief for posing the question. I think he's getting grief for asserting we're likely to get it and are the best game on the board.
As far as Gameday being too cute by half, I like that they mix it up with locations so that they're not always on the same six campuses.
Agree on McAfee. I could do without him.
October 23rd, 2022 at 9:53 AM ^
Yeah, I shouldn’t have phrased it like that. It’s obviously not a sure thing when a 3-4 team is involved. But when the two best games involve a team that already hosted twice and the other network’s pregame show and broadcast, and there are no other obvious candidates, I think we have a decent shot more as a showcase for our own program and their own ABC broadcast (if they choose a Power 5 game for Gameday, which they might not). As many have noted, Gameday has gone to the same site as Big Noon including some of our games. But the bar seems higher for that, and PSU just got smashed by us like I said above. So I thought the door might be open. It’s a good game, but not quite a can’t miss game where both networks need to go (like M-MSU and M-OSU last year). But they could still choose OSU-PSU and I wouldn’t be surprised.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:17 AM ^
He shouldnt be getting grief for a reasonble assumption
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:00 AM ^
They should get rid of the riff raff and collect top shelf talent from wherever they can find it. The Game Day crew should be Desmond, Woodson, and Jake Butt. End of story.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
Sure SD, but I think it’s fun and exciting for the students on campus.
October 23rd, 2022 at 8:09 AM ^
You said before that Gameday wouldn’t go to the same place as Big Noon Kickoff. We already know that Big Noon will be at osu-UM so Pamela up your mind.
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:38 PM ^
1-Why do you assume Knoxville is out after 2 trips?
2-Why do you assume Fox & ESPN can't/won't go to the same venue?
3-Why do you assume ESPN cares if the come to A2 this year?
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:43 PM ^
1. I've never seen them go to the same place 3 times in a season, have you?
2. I don't, they did it for M-MSU last year. But that was a matchup of two undefeated teams that they couldn't ignore. I figured with the business of TV, if they have any sort of opportunity, they'll promote their own game over FOX' and take away from their coverage. PSU-OSU is a better game, but I don't think it's some blockbuster they can't miss. And again, we just beat up PSU.
3. They might not.
October 23rd, 2022 at 5:46 AM ^
Absolutely correct about Gameday not coming when the Big Noon crew is on campus. We’ll see if they make an exception when we go to the shoe undefeated. Big noon already has dibs on The Game.
October 23rd, 2022 at 7:25 AM ^
If it’s undefeated v undefeated Gameday will definitely be at The Game.
October 23rd, 2022 at 8:48 AM ^
Didn't come to Michigan last yr for "The Game" when Big Noon Kickoff was here?
October 23rd, 2022 at 9:09 AM ^
Why do ppl still think this? They’ve been to the same campus as Big Noon Multiple times. They’ve already done it this year! Gameday is at the biggest game in college football regardless!!!! They were just on campus in Eugene, Fox did that broadcast yesterday.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
I didn’t know that, thanks for the info.
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:34 PM ^
Don't spare feelings, Pete. Tell us how you really feel.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:51 AM ^
Might need to change my name to PeteAttack. I came on strong, but still think the idea of a post indicating a likelihood of Game Day at 3-4 team game is absurd. Kingpin does present decent logic, but big picture still so obvious.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:01 AM ^
There's always room for ya in the "Attack Gang!"
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:20 AM ^
I say all of this under the assumption that State’s record could be forgiven for Gameday purposes by being a rival and the road team (who often takes a backseat on the show). I’d obviously never predict this if the game were in EL or if OSU/PSU were on an ESPN network. You could be right though.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:00 AM ^
Plus you know Herbsteit and Fowler can’t wait to slobber all over Ohio St for 3 hours live.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:01 AM ^
Fowler and Herbstreit are confirmed for the UK-UT game.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:07 AM ^
Have a bad day yesterday, Pete? Your second sentence was unnecessary - we’re all rooting for the same team here.
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:25 PM ^
Good, good. Bring all the media, all the talking heads, all the amplification.
Time to bury Sharty in most embarrassing fashion on the national stage, while all the pundits wax poetic about UM's dominance and resurgance.
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:26 PM ^
Eh... MSU is poo. OSU-PSU and GA-FLA are bigger games. And the latter plays into SEC bias.
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:28 PM ^
Don't want the distraction. Hard pass.
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:30 PM ^
next 5 game days
PSU-OSU
UGA-Tenn
Bama-Old Miss
Ill-Mich
The Game
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:01 AM ^
VERY high chance they go to USC/UCLA in Week 12. First time in a while that game has juice, Gameday will not pass that up
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:46 AM ^
UCLAs defense has zero juice, they offer no resistance
October 22nd, 2022 at 11:57 PM ^
No chance. They will go to psu before us.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:22 AM ^
I am a huge Michigan fan, but I don't see any interest nationally for any upcoming Michigan game other than OSU, and even then... assuming both of us are still undefeated. Most of the country has little to no interest in B1G football right now. Tv is all about ratings.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:28 AM ^
Michigan isn't just any B1G program. Every one of our games is in the top 10 nationally for ratings that week, and often top 5. There's a reason Fox covered us in their Big Noon four weeks in a row.
The Game will get Gameday, that's a very safe bet. That was - by far - the highest-rated game in the 2021 regular season.
There's a chance Illinois will get it, too. If it weren't the week before the Game, I'd strongly predict it, since Illinois is probably going to win the West. But because of the timing of the game, that might be the week they make their token visit to an FCS school or similar.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:34 AM ^
I agree with you that it’s all about ratings. But that is part of the reason why the OP may not be so crazy to propose Gameday in AA next week. Not saying it will happen - the PSU / OSU game is a better matchup - but for the past two seasons, M games have consistently been amongst the most watched. We have a huge and passionate alumni base, especially in the larger markets on the coasts. That said, I still don’t think that our “rivalry” game against a 3-4 sparty is a big enough draw. That rivalry is more local than National.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:42 AM ^
Thanks, that was my main point. I threw that out there trying to guess TV network logic rather than the purely best game.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:06 AM ^
OSU rates pretty high as well and a matchup with a top 15 PSU team will do pretty big numbers…hell most of the Michigan fanbase will be tuned in to see if they lose.
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:20 AM ^
Not on television. I can't stand to look at that :)$; red and shilver bull$&(? You can have it!!!
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:35 AM ^
MSU vs UM was one of the top rated games last year. Yeah, MSU is not as good, but there's some intrigue there since the good guys are 0-2 against Tucker. I don't think Gameday is coming to Ann Arbor but the game will do good ratings.
October 23rd, 2022 at 7:13 AM ^
"no interest in B1G football"
A billion dollars in network TV deals says you are completely wrong.
October 23rd, 2022 at 9:43 AM ^
What are you talking about? The Big Ten is consistently the strongest ratings draw as a conference, nationally. The SEC is typically second.
Granted, Michigan-MSU probably doesn't have national interest but that's mainly because MSU is bad, which means that game really only has local implications. But to say the Big Ten generally isn't a draw is flat out wrong.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:27 AM ^
Man this season we are getting like negative levels of IQ threads. Take your vitamins folks, drink some water, be smarter. Y’all sound like you should be posting on RCMB instead of mgoblog
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:39 AM ^
I’m not sure what the big deal is. I asked if a TV show might come here next week when it’s a slow schedule and the best game is already on another network with another pregame show and involves a home team that we just embarrassed (but apparently not as embarrassed as I should be for broaching this ridiculous subject). Even if I’m wrong, who cares? This was a good reminder to lurk and not post.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:21 AM ^
Kingpin - good stuff, I respect all of your responses and hope you know my blog arrogance is learned and normal (but not admirable). You showed more humility than most. I have had some posts that got slammed much harder - I learned and ‘grew’ as a blogger. 😆 sounds ridiculous, but I did! Yet, being quite active, I continue to make regrettable comments on the regular. Ask my wife of 18 years - I’m a true work in progress.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:37 AM ^
“I doubt they'd pick PSU over Mich as the home site after we just smashed them.”
That would never go into the decision making. It’s all about the matchup of two ranked teams playing that day.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:40 AM ^
Then fair enough, I would get that. I just thought they might switch it up to showcase us more since the other game was on FOX already.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:58 AM ^
We are playing a 3-4 team…why the hell would we get Gameday?
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:00 AM ^
Fordham vs Holy Cross or Jackson st. vs Southern U. lets get one of these smaller schools in the spot light..
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:29 AM ^
Yeah - I’d bet a good chunk of money they go to Jackson, Mississippi.
I think GameDay has only been on campus at a HBCU once (Florida A&M back in 2008) - and with Deion being at JSU, JSU being undefeated, Southern being one of the better teams in the SWAC themselves, and this being JSU’s last home game of the year, a lot of things line up.
Ann Arbor is still on the table for Week 12 (Illinois).
October 23rd, 2022 at 8:38 AM ^
I think going to Jackson to showcase Prime Time would make for a GREAT show! The crowd at all the D2 places they go - ND, JMU, App ST (used to be D2) - is always amped and fun; imagine what a small HBCU would do! Man, would that be a fun crowd!!
