[OT] Jason Moore (4*, #5 DL, #53 overall) commits to Ohio State over Notre Dame and Michigan

Submitted by BoFlex on July 11th, 2022 at 11:52 AM

As title implies, 4-start DL Jason Moore from Maryland announced his commitment to Ohio State yesterday. Unclear where exactly Michigan stood in his recruitment, but recruitniks indicated that Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan were likely his top-3 with Maryland being in the mix too. Up until very recently, all signs were pointing to Notre Dame.

Oh well, we could have used him. I guess we will have to hope a 3 star DL recruit can turn into a good player. It seems like our win over OSU and making the playoffs is not making a difference this recruiting cycle..

We did land Derrick Moore last year, and actually had a pretty good DL class last year. If we can land Etta, and keep Harbor interested, we will be fine. Honestly, I don't see Notre Dame having a good season, and hope we can flip the 2024 recruit from west Bloomfield committed to them.

Rayshaun Benny should make an impact this season as well, so while it is looking like we don't hit any any of the top DL recruits, we have plenty of high ranking guys that need to step up and fill the void left by the draft.  McGregor, Benny, Harrell, Rooks, Guy.

A lot of that had to do with Harbaugh's flirtation with the NFL and losing both coordinators all more or less in the same month right after the season. With Harbaugh supposedly committing for the long term you would like to think this particular reason for recruiting malaise won't be an issue in the future. As for the coordinators, well, if Harbaugh keeps hiring good coordinators they'll be lost every few years or so. Hopefully they just don't both happen at the same time.

As for the NIL side of things, even though you didn't bring that part up, I don't really know how that will turn out. This whole "transformational, not transactional" deal will be all fine and dandy up until they start losing.

he's their 2nd highest recruit on ESPN behind Innis, the guy who was coming here (according to someone)... and he's #11 in the ESPN 300 for them.

we can mock but..  they get guys to the league, they win a TON, they are treated like kings on campus, and their "school", and i mean "school" makes 100% sure they are enabled to do all of the above.

Let's face it...  you don't go to Michigan because it's the easier path.  They never have and never will.  You go to Michigan because the pride of going there resonates with you and the other things it offers have value to you.

Michigan has to be competitive in everything (NIL, etc), but only certain kids are ever going to make that choice.

I'm OK with that, because I don't want to become Ohio State.  I want their fans to pull all their hair out when they have all these advantages and still lose 42-27.

Went to the same HS as Hunter Dickinson, but OSU was pitching him on being the next Chase Young (who also went to DeMatha). That said, we probably don’t need a recruiting post for every recruit we lose out on, especially those we never led for like this one. There’s a long list of recruits that we were in the running for recently that have since committed elsewhere.

yea, but people want to bitch and moan. this thread will get more comments than the Hello: Collins Acheampong thread and that's sad, especially when michigan was barely in the race to begin with. it was a PSU/ND/OSU race the entire time.

Just want to remind everyone that Hassan Haskins,

ran for 5 TDs through this line

If that defensive line isn't impressive enough for you just tell Ryan Day the four 5-star players and the ten 4-star players he had on the roster last year weren't good (or essentially properly developed) enough to handle the #176, #265, #335, #365 and #2937 ranked players (in their respective classes) that they went against from Michigan during that game.

I am really hoping recruiting rankings were off this year due to lack of camps and games during pandemic years. I am putting more faith in Harbaugh's staff doing their own evaluation and ranking internally. I am sure we missed out on a few good ones due to NIL but hoping for a more positive play from our recruits than what the recruiting sites dictate.

we arent passing on highly rated guys. we're whiffing on them. there's a difference. If we were trusting our own evaluations, then we wouldnt be pushing hard to get these guys and missing on them. I'm mostly okay with the "we trust our own evals" concept, but not when we're constantly 2nd or 3rd place.

Also, there's a new coaching staff, so its not clear to me yet that we can trust the new guys on their evals until we see the results.

Well, I am more positive on Harbaugh and the people he hires. I give him the benefit of the doubt.

We actually snagged a bunch of guys last year and even flipped them. We finish 2nd and 3rd on some guys but that is nothing new. Give him credit for turning an excellent last year in December. May be he can work his magic again this year.

I can think of 27 to 42 reason why this post is unnecessary on the board.

That said, need to get our recruiting/NIL in order asap.  If this class is ends up being a "hole" or missed year, so be it - but no program can't sustain multiple poor classes in a row. Really need to get things in order for next year's haul.

Cool, why post this though? Just to make people mad? This board is pretty good at keeping people updated on crystal balls and who we are trending for, so why post a player we were never projected to get?

52 comments from people who don't care about the OP.....

that's pretty good.  Makes me want to take a road trip to TX and have a Budweiser in DKR Memorial Stadium......

Question: When was the last time a Final Four college football team yielded a non-Top 10 recruiting class the same year. and then a non-Top 10 recruiting class the next full year after that?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that has ever happened.

Until now.

If it seems like Michigan football uniquely finds out ways to accomplish such remarkable but underwhelming feats, it's because they do. Somehow.

Good for him.  I’m always happy to see a young person take the next step on their personal journey and career path.  Hope he kicks ass in every game except Michigan.

In any case, the nattering nabobs of negativity have taken over this board, we don’t need to give then an avenue to bitch and moan every time one of the best recruiting programs in the con Tri pulls in a good recruit, even if we were supposedly a finalist.
