That sucks. He was only 67 years old. Makes me feel more mortal.
Yep. I feel your sentiment.
At least we will always have great GIFs from Mr. Liotta
Yer bones are already bleached, my ape friend!
67 is not that old...jeez! He was just in the Sopranos prequel and did his typical excellent job of tough guy/mobster. So sad
Died in his sleep. If you're going to go, this is a peaceful way to go.
RIP Ray
I would like to go peacefully in my sleep, just like my grandfather went.
I would not like to go screaming in abject terror like the three people in the car he was driving.
I once thought the same about dying in ones sleep until I saw Season 1 Episode 9 of The Twilight Zone
Perchance to Dream
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0734612/
"They say a dream takes only a second or so, and yet in that second a man can live a lifetime. He can suffer and die, and who's to say which is the greater reality: the one we know or the one in the dreams, between heaven, the sky, the earth . . . in the Twilight Zone."
I remember some of those old epidsodes being so terrifying when I watched them as a child. I was probably too young, but the parents were upstairs watching Walter Cronkite or one of the other 4 or 5 channels, and not aware of what I was watching downstairs. The one where the crew of some spaceship got captured by aliens who subjected them to all kinds of scary stuff gave me nightmares for years.
TO SERVE MAN!
A movie called The Trilogy of Terror although not Twilight Zone related also freaked me out as a kid.
No, dude, no! Dammit. I always loved how he’d explain how he’d kill a guy and laugh the words out to do it.
Hey Ray Liotta, is Olivia home?
Shoeless Joe Jackson: "Is this heaven?"
Yeah this really sucks. One of the greatest horror moments ever burned into my already twisted mind...The dinner scene. RIP Ray.
Breakout role in - Something Wild. Great movie. Mid 80's
When Ray Liotta initially enters the film the change is palpable. Only thing I can compare it to is a cold front moving through.
This one breaks my heart, great presence on screen, have always immensely enjoyed his acting.
RIP Ray, you will be missed!!!
He dies with the distinct honor of being the centerpiece of what is likely the best film scene ever shot, the entrance to the Copacabana in Goodfellas.
I love long shot cinematography! It takes so much more time, preparation and skill. Sometimes, when done right, is so satisfying.
My favorite to this date is the beginning to Boogie Nights.
Have you seen 1917? If you like long shot you have to check that out.
I have! The first 5 mins are easy, but the last part is a masterpiece.
If you havent, check out Boiling Point.
Single shot movie. Stephan Graham is excellent. Probably my favorite movie of last year.
I will!
Looking at the reviews it says its single shot (but not necessarily single camera on long shot format). I'd be curious how many cameras they use. Will report back.
hey ray!
you were good.
Wasn't it "Hey rookie....... you were good."? Whatever. It was a great movie and role for him, that I remember the most.
XM is saying that to Ray.
He sure had some great lines in that movie.
Exactly, modified to fit. Love that movie and he was a great actor. Pulls on my heart strings even more now that I know he was an orphan. Two of our boys were, and they’re so incredible.
That film pulls my heartstrings every. single. time.
(Dammit, these allergies are tough)
Really, how many of us could watch that movie right now and not have to worry about dust in the room.
Really sad that he died way too early.
If you ever get the chance to drop in on the Field of Dreams in Iowa, I recommend it. My wife is from Iowa so we used to make many uninspiring trips there. Then we stopped by Dyersville on one trip. Magical. The kids and I all pretended to be like Ray's Shoeless Joe and the other ghost players and walk into the cornfield (go when the corn is high).
So many great roles and performances. Thanks for the memories Ray!
Damn....was just watching Goodfellas this past Sunday. He always had a way of playing characters who could be both extremely calm yet maniacal and sociopathic at the same time. Such a fantastic actor. That laugh of his had so much gleeful insanity in it.
RIP, Ray. You were one of the greats. When you see Tommy again, can you remind him for all of us how funny of a guy he was?
No, he needs to tell Tommy to get his fucking shine box…
I think Billy Batts has been tormenting Tommy over that plenty on his own ever since Tommy showed up at the pearly gates.
I mean…..if a man and his buddies beat me within an inch of my life and then finished me off with his mother’s butcher knife in the trunk of his car before burying me upstate somewhere, I’d probably be itching to make his afterlife a living hell the minute he showed up there.
That was a deer!!!
One dog looks this way, this one looks the other way and this guy says 'hey, what do you want from me?'
The poor thing, I hit him and his uh, we hit the deer and his paw-what do you call it?
The paw. His foot.
The hoof.
The hoof got caught in the grill and I gotta hack it off.
Deniro's delivery of "the hoof" always kills me.
RIP, Ray. Thanks for so many great memories.
Interesting that in "Goodfellas," Joe Pesci kills Frank Vincent (Billy Batts). And then in "Casino," Frank Vincent kills Joe Pesci.
Martin Scorsese has a way with these sorts of things.
Oh man, that sucks. Hadn't even heard about this. His Henry Hill character is one of the all-time classics (Hill actually lived in the town I grew up in). He was in a ton of stuff but one of my favorites was his small but great role in Cop Land
My two all-time favorite movies: Field of Dreams and Goodfellas. This is awful. RIP Ray.
Narc was a solid movie. And for whatever reason I will always remember the line from a good movie review - which is rare - from the San Diego Reader, our local "Metro" weekly free mag. that said "set in Detroit (played by Toronto)".
He was also terrific in Narc, an underrated film set in Detroit. Sad day. Loved his performances.
Possessed perhaps the most expressive eyes in the business, with a face and presence built for Hollywood.
He was ridiculously authentic in Cop Land, Unlawful Entry and Narc, in addition to his most famous roles, and believe it or not, he made Operation Dumbo Drop and Turbulence actually watchable.
RIP, Ray. Gone too soon.
Fuck!! A year younger than me. Fuck!! He leaves behind a HOF body of work.
I'm going to go paint a picture of one dog going that way and the other dog going the other way.
Another one that was way too young. RIP Ray - you will be remembered by a lot of folks.
The first news I saw was the The Hollywood Reporter tweeting he died in his sleep in the Dominican Republic and I had to do a double take to see what the heck I had just read. RIP.
RIP Mr Liotta 🙏
Your cinematic excellence will be remembered forever.
Sold him 2-3 pairs of socks at Structure on Worth Ave in Palm Beach when I was in college. Really nice guy. Great actor. RIP
