Nick B says Harbaugh has his offer from Michigan

Maybe I'm wrong but I've been under the impression this was the case for the last week or more. This is not news to me. I guess the fact that it's coming from a journalist with a decent reputation for reporting the truth is good.
Harbaugh will go back to the NFL eventually and he's obviously testing the waters right now but its pretty clear at this point its going to take a very very tantalizing job opening with a hefty contract to sway him away from M right now. Are Derek Carr and the Raiders roster a tantalizing job opportunity? I'd say it's better than most but is it good enough for Harbaugh to leave his home? Not sure.
January 17th, 2022 at 11:18 PM ^
Harbaugh is older than me but if I could make that kind of money and live in Las Vegas it would be a done deal but I don’t think Jim would do the things I would do there.
January 17th, 2022 at 11:20 PM ^
If I was making Harbaugh's money and lived in Las Vegas, I would be in loads of trouble within a few days.
January 17th, 2022 at 11:29 PM ^
Yes… trouble would eventually find you but it being Las Vegas the amount of money you have might be the ticket to getting out of trouble and the party continues!
January 18th, 2022 at 6:07 AM ^
“Leaving Las Vegas” style after a few months of living there LOL
January 17th, 2022 at 11:28 PM ^
Is the Raiders roster that much better than any other NFL roster? Admittedly I do not know much about the NFL but it seems like every team has playmakers at every position and margins between first and last are razor thin. The NFL is parity defined, one year you are conference champs and the next year you are sweating it to make the playoffs. Rosters are fluid, every coach is ultra smart, advantages are few and far between. The lack of parity in college football is actually one of the reasons I like college football, because my team is typically on the better end of it. Granted, I don't like how the SEC has overtaken college football but part of the intrigue of CFB is watching the tide hopefully change (no pun intended).
January 17th, 2022 at 11:31 PM ^
And that’s why college football has amazing upsets! NFL, sure a better team might lose but it’s not the crazy college football madness.
January 18th, 2022 at 7:16 AM ^
“Rosters are fluid, every coach is ultra smart,“ - Joe Judge would like a word with you. Giants, Jets and Jax have teams that with very little players.
Raiders are presumed favorites as JH could get full control. Whether that has been discussed or not is another story. I think JH wants to try for the SB again but now maybe torn to stay at UM. A decent amount of openings plus Harbaugh’s name is hot. If he’s going to leave, I’m not sure there’s a much better time than now.
January 18th, 2022 at 9:12 AM ^
Take it for what it is worth, but it was being reported last night during the Rams v Cardinals game the Raiders are reaching out to the Patriots to interview their Director of player personnel for the GM position and on of the Coordinators (the defensive coordinator I believe) for their open positions. More importantly, no word on Harbaugh. This is where silence is beautiful.
January 18th, 2022 at 9:20 AM ^
I still am having a hard time believing he would hire a position coach, bring him away from a good job, or that said coach would agree to leave that job, if the whole thing could be blown up in a matter of weeks.
January 18th, 2022 at 8:20 AM ^
It's not that the Raiders roster is better than most other rosters in the NFL. It's that they have a pretty good starting QB already in place and they just made the playoffs. They're in a much better spot than any other team with a head coaching vacancy. Maybe one of the best rosters with a head coaching vacancy in a long time.
They still need some pieces though. That wide receiver corps outside of Renfrow is a mess and they could use some help in the back end of the defense. Overall not a bad roster to work with if you're a head coach.

wrong movie but right attitude
January 17th, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
So far, so good.
January 17th, 2022 at 10:16 PM ^
I thought he said he'd work for free. So, what's the big deal with a contract?
Just asking...
January 17th, 2022 at 11:35 PM ^
Well Harbaugh is a competitive SOB and I am sure it grinds his gears to see Tucker and Frames Janklin making so much more than him**. In this case the money is as much a sign of respect as it is a payday.
** Before I get quoted on tRCMB - Tucker may well prove he deserves that $$ going forward, but doesn't have the pedigree to justify it yet. Franklin is just plain overpaid based on what he has done at PSU.
January 18th, 2022 at 1:30 AM ^
I agree.. I would have waited to see what Tucker can do without a Heisman caliber RB before throwing the bank at him.
January 17th, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
Michigan, as I understand it, welcomes JH at UM. But some at M wonder if he's torn about NFL.
Florio level stuff right there Nick
January 17th, 2022 at 9:24 PM ^
Or is it more accurate to state that Harbaugh is torn about the NFL because he's concerned that the University of Michigan is not willing to do what it takes to compete for championships?
January 17th, 2022 at 10:48 PM ^
We're confused about his apprehension because, especially with fortunate recent events, the decision is quite clear. I watch the NFL, if you're looking for more than a major work in progress project, Vegas isn't for you. But, at the same time, that means Michigan must have put together one hell of an offer, in much less time than I thought they would. Let's face it, this a complicated deal. This would take professional teams weeks to deal with.
The rules of the game are being changed, right now, the president is gone, we just beat our hated rival for the first time in i'll be honest i stopped counting, and we made the playoffs for the first time and got clubbed. Which feels way worse than it is, Georgia really was that good. Historically good. But the SEC chants that are being echoed are meant to distract us from committing to beating them.
January 18th, 2022 at 9:22 AM ^
No. Harbaugh is not worried about competing at the highest level at Michigan. To imply as much is absurd. He is not going to leave M for any college anywhere. It is simply a matter of him enjoying the thrill of victory in the NFL as opposed to the thrill of victory at Michigan. He clearly loves both.
January 18th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
I don't know...is it more accurate? Do you know? Aside from 5th or 6th generation sources?
January 17th, 2022 at 9:34 PM ^
Yeah, Nick seems really good at writing a tweet that sounds informative without saying anything. The fact he says Michigan three different times in three different ways in a span of 2 sentences is peak "my professor just wants a word count" level of writing.
January 18th, 2022 at 1:43 AM ^
Nick is also a very negative-nancy. I remember in the 2015 season Harbaugh would be peppy and smiley answering press questions, and when Nick's turn would come up Harbaugh would become a lot more grimace-ey.
I told myself "Harbaugh can sense that guys pessimism and hates it lol", but also not lol, sounds crazy I guess, but I do believe it to be true.
January 17th, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
I can’t figure out how to include the screenshot of it, so hopefully my link works.
January 17th, 2022 at 8:54 PM ^
Streamlined version:
“It’s about what Harbaugh wants to do.”
No kidding.
January 18th, 2022 at 7:42 AM ^
Here, Nick does not actually know anything. And, as usual, he jumps at every opportunity to take a shot at Michigan. I remain incredulous that any Michigan fan continues to give Nick the time of day-he is the definition of a "snake in the grass".
January 17th, 2022 at 8:29 PM ^
Bunghole is a fucking msu hack.
He seriously had an article saying mel tucker has the cheat code to winning these games days before he lost by 50 to ohio state.
Can we please get a Michigan grad to cover our team.
January 17th, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
yea dude everyone at The Michigan Insider...ever heard of Sam Webb? he has a radio show and a podcast and a website.
January 17th, 2022 at 11:30 PM ^
Sam doesn't pretend to be unbiased like Baumgardner
January 17th, 2022 at 8:46 PM ^
I mean they were picked to be one of the worst teams in the conference this year and finished 11-2 with a win over a playoff squad and end-of-year 3rd ranked team. With the talent he had, “cheat codes” sounds pretty accurate to me.
January 17th, 2022 at 11:12 PM ^
I can’t imagine calling any coach a cheat code for winning after being down by 7 touchdowns at halftime to the 2nd place team in their division. Tucker’s record when he doesn’t have the NCAA leader in yards after contact is 7-12, so maybe let’s hold off on calling him some sort of winning cheat code.
January 17th, 2022 at 11:58 PM ^
B4L - I think you’ll find he wrote the comment about cheat codes BEFORE the OSU game. So your point is moot.
January 18th, 2022 at 10:29 AM ^
Also, since it’s nebulous figurative language that is just saying Mel has had improbably great success this season, do we really need to scrutinize Mel’s whole career to determine if “cheat codes” is appropriately used to describe his 2021 success, and reign in Nick Baumgardner here? He didn’t claim Mel the best coach of all-time or unbeatable. Even in light of the OSU game, which as you pointed out happened after Nick’s comment, it’d take a some tricky mental gymnastics not to see Mel and his team’s success. Nick is acknowledging just that.
January 18th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ^
Tricky gymnastics? The dude is 13-7 at msu. Decent, hardly world-beating and especially so when we include his time at other schools.
January 18th, 2022 at 11:45 AM ^
Again, he’s talking about this year. Why is this so difficult?
January 18th, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
That is why defending him calling Tucker a cheat code is ridiculous. We already know he isn’t a cheat code to beat OSU. The timeline went: writer calls Tucker a cheat code for winning, Tucker goes down 7 touchdowns at halftime to OSU, MGoPoster defends calling him a cheat code.
January 18th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
You mean a sports journalist got a game prediction wrong? Stop the presses!
And what does “cheat codes” mean to you? If he said Mel had a “whale of a season”, would you be as hurt?
January 17th, 2022 at 11:16 PM ^
If you mean “cheat code” as in the normal rules do not apply (*cough* strip sack TD *cough*) then he does seem to have that. If you mean that his coaching caused the Nebraska punter to eschew his entire coverage team, or that his coaching caused his bowl opponent to play the whole game with their 3rd stringer, then I’m dubious.
Good coach got insanely lucky this year and is now vastly overpaid. Let’s see how he handles the expectations.
January 18th, 2022 at 10:14 AM ^
By talent I assume you mean the talented refs they had assisting them this year. Cheat code sounds accurate.
January 17th, 2022 at 8:47 PM ^
Bunghole? Is that really the best you can do? Take that shit to mlive/rcmb
January 17th, 2022 at 10:47 PM ^

Dude, calm the fuck down. NB is a reliable and responsible reporter. Just because someone says something that conflicts with your desires doesn't make him a hack.

Bunghole?

There are many examples of creative and humorous takedowns on this Board. This is not one of them. Unless you are my eight year old grandson.
