I would also really like it if we kept Gattis. We seem to have finally found a good balance of Speed in Space and Harbaugh run scheme. Even if he's not the best OC (I think he's good but not elite), the scheme fits the guys we have on the roster and continuity is so important.

Alas, he seems the most likely to take off to a Head coaching gig somewhere

I have had my issues with Gattis (and Harbaugh depending on your view of the chain of command) but the OSU game was the best I've seen from him. Between the scheme adjustments (jettisoning the no read inside zone stuff except for one 3rd and short that went for no gain) and the plays that worked off what they've shown on tape (Henning reverse and flea flicker).

Seems like every year the offense starts off clunky and searching for how they want to play for the season. Hopefully that delay continues to reduce every year he gets more comfortable. Also, having Weiss on staff is good for a potential departure.

After watching three 3 stars (Moore, Gray and Turner) run stride for stride with 3 first round NFL WR's all game and make life difficult for them, this defensive coaching staff will squeeze everything out of the talent they have.

When you think where this secondary started and where they are it was really masterful. Gray in particular,  the heat that kid took last year.

Clinkscale and MacDonald did a brilliant job of maximizing their strengths and mitigating their weaknesses. If you're a top flight db recruit it has to be a dream to go against the very best receivers and shut them down is there a better landing spot?

I don't know if that kid from LSU, Ricks, an OSU lean, is on the radar but he said he wants, not only to go to the NFL, but learn the position who better than Clinkscale?

As for Jackson, it's not like Riley is known for his defense. I think they have to be slipping for him with that hire. Especially if he has no relationship with him and they don't retain Donte Williams which doesn't seem likely.

No real changes.

Lots of Boiler Plate on Michigan.

Lots of Boiler Plate on USC.

Expecting Bama or USC based on this.  It wasn't an interview to give the warm fuzzies even if it was full of recruit-speak.

Momentum has shifted so much. When we won, I'm sure it went towards Michigan. Lincoln going to USC moves it back to USC, and it really depends on what they do with Donte. If Alabama wins against Georgia, it boosts their chances.  The one thing I think Michigan can sell him on more than USC/Alabama is that he could play as a freshman. USC has a lot of high 4star and a 5 star corner already, and I'm not going to be surprised when Oklahomas highly rated corner goes to USC. They also already have three 4star corners committed, which are all top 250 players. We have Will Johnson and Myles Pollard, and I've seen plenty of rumblings of Auburn being a contender.

I don't even have to look at Alabamas roster to know they probably have several high 4 star and 5 star corners already on the roster. We have majority 3 star and low 4 stars that will quickly get passed on the depth chart by Will Johnson and Domani.

Its sounds like Domani Jackson needs a refresher on the term “dream school.”

In somewhat related news: do we have any shot with Derrick Moore? Big time DE recruit from St. Frances in Baltimore. Just decommited from Oklahoma following Riley’s announcement. After watching Hutchinson and Ojabo I know where I would want to play. Add that in with presumably being former teammates of Hill-Green and Corum. I am really hoping we see some last second recruiting momentum after the big win.

Michigan is not allowed to recruit St. Frances players for 2 years, because they hired Biff Poggi.

This is all stupid, because Poggi previously worked for Harbaugh at Michigan, before taking the St. Frances job to begin with. And his daughter is a student at Michigan.

But, that's the NCAA for you.

There is literally nothing more that Michigan could've done. They attained great results with guys like Vincent Gray running stride for stride with some of the best receivers in the country (if not the best). It was a great moment of showing him what Michigan is capable of.

If he doesn't come here now, then he was never going to come anyway. Which is fine. He's got to do what's best for him, but Michigan put its best possible foot forward. If this doesn't sell him, then I'm not sure anything will.

Seems like it was a UM/Bama battle, but Lincoln Riley going to USC throws a huge wrench into all of this.

That being said, Michigan put one hell of a recruiting pitch on for him on Saturday afternoon. They've got real, tangible results to sell now, the kind of results that a recruit of his caliber is looking for. Harbaugh / MacDonald can tell him "we just limited one of the best offenses of the last decade to 28 points. We just got to Indy and have a very real chance of making the CFP."

"Imagine what we can do with you. With you on one side and Will Johnson on the other, no one could ever throw on this team."

If he doesn't go to Michigan now, then it was never going to be in the cards no matter what happened. But Michigan has a lotttt to sell him on right now. At least with USC, you can make the argument that Riley is going to need a year or two to build the program to the level he needs it to be at.

Even with a good coach, USC is likely going to be a tire fire for at least a couple of years.  If he is as good as his recruiting rankings say, he is likely gone after 3, and I assume that he wants to be in the playoffs.  So does he want to pin all of his hopes on USC making the playoffs in that third year, or go to a program that is allegedly his dream school and is playing its best football in decades?  Our defense just held down the best offense in CFB during our first year in a new scheme.  Come play for the good guys, Domani.

I think it's a very tight race.

I am curious to see if he pushes back his timetable - i was under the impression he was moving it up after his visit, which would have been a positive for Michigan.

If Riley retains his DB coach, I think he'll stay out in LA...I mean he committed when Helton was the coach, so Riley is definitely going to add pull back to USC.

if he keeps a December announcement date, I think Michigan has a good shot. If not, I think he'll reup with USC now.

If we can learn anything, our success is not contingent on one recruit.  My guess is that he’s Bama bound but just as likely to go back to USC now.  Regardless, we will be fine with him or without him.  Yes, recruiting elite talent matters, but we need to stop thinking guys like Jackson are the only answer.  Not getting my hope up with this one.

If he lived anywhere but California or on the west coast in general, I'd say we have a good chance but I'd love to be wrong and snatch one up for the good guys

Nothing to worry about with him. We have done the maximum we can do. If a recruit doesn't want to commit here after THAT display, then we're not going to land him.

Some kids say one thing and do the opposite.  I read nothing into anybody’s comments.  You put your best foot forward - so to speak.  Cannot will someone to come to your school.

Josh Gattis called a near perfect game. we saw the speed in space, we saw the trick plays and more importantly we saw the right play called at the right time. Gattis has done a tremendous job and we would be stupid to not try to keep him for at least a couple more years. I hear folks talking about Weiss taking over, but I think you have the right formula. Bringing in Hart makes the RB room championship caliber. No disrespect to young Harbaugh but our RB's haven't been that great since Wheatley left because Wheatley played the position and really had something to teach. Did you see Haskins' patience and waiting for the holes to open, when needed on Saturday? Harbaugh coaching TE's and special teams has worked out tremendously. Allowing Moore to coach the OL has made this group the best OL in America. Bringing in Clinck and Bellamy has arguably turned a couple of the worst DB's in the league, into very good players and an outstanding secondary. John Harbaugh saw something in McDonald and told his brother to hire this guy, he's gonna be great. McDonald has installed a defense that is elite and with Nua and Helow, they seems to just keep winning. Having real (ex) football players who are relatable and have something REAL to teach, has made the difference in recruiting, development and winning games. Please don't go back to that good old-boy run of the mill coaching world we see all the time. Hiring young innovative minds, who bring fresh ideas, relatability and new ways of reaching and teaching young athletes has been the formula for success. Get your wallets ready because it's time to pay to keep these guys. At least for a couple more years.
