Their tanking game is strong this year. Keep it up Lions!
October 10th, 2021 at 4:07 PM ^
Yeah, imagine how good they’ll be next year with another high pick, what with all their draft success lately
October 10th, 2021 at 4:10 PM ^
Whats the odds the number 1 pick will go on the IR before season?
October 10th, 2021 at 4:11 PM ^
Probably still take Rattler.
October 10th, 2021 at 6:18 PM ^
that's definitely a historically bad Lions pick but I doubt that's what you were going for
October 10th, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
While the Lions tank plan is fine in and of itself, the 2022 QB draft class has turned out to be trash.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:15 PM ^
They could use help for their pass rush too, and Thibodeaux and Hutchinson are right there. When you suck you need help everywhere.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:31 PM ^
No doubt. The conundrum, however, is that the more help you get via the draft, the better the team becomes, hurting their future chances of getting similarly high draft picks. And a team like the Lions has to get a big-time QB via the draft if they're going to contend for a sustained period of time. It isn't impossible to do that with a pick outside, say, the top 5. But it gets less and less likely.
October 10th, 2021 at 8:59 PM ^
Yeah the Lions are pretty much guaranteed the worst roster in the NFL next season too. Top 5 picks for the next 3 drafts seems quite possible, if not downright likely. Frankly I wouldnt want a rookie QB on next years roster anyway. They would probably sit behind Goff regardless as his restructure makes cutting him before next season unlikely. Snag BPA, you know they need it. Don't force a QB selection during a down class.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:43 PM ^
Their roster is so bad I'd be taking the best person available with the first few picks the next couple of years. I wouldn't be looking for a QB specifically with this class.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:47 PM ^
Past performance is indicative of future success. They will pick a DB from Wake Forest…
October 10th, 2021 at 7:01 PM ^
Couldn't be any worse than a DB from THEEEEEE ohio.
October 10th, 2021 at 6:12 PM ^
The most amazing part is that anyone is rationalizing a potential “winning franchise” scenario. Seriously. As if “all we need are some high draft picks” and then we will finally turn around a 70 year losing culture and win the Super Bowl. It really cracks me up.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:07 PM ^
It's honestly impressive that they manage to do this over and over, year after year. Had no doubt they were going to lose after getting the 2pt conversion with time left and the Vikings having 2 timeouts.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:09 PM ^
I’ll never understand why teams fear a big play TD in that situation. Like, hello!? If the other team kicks a fg you still lose so what are you preventing exactly?
October 10th, 2021 at 4:10 PM ^
Nebraska needs to pay the Lions some royalties.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:09 PM ^
1994, Michigan hosts Colorado. Last play of the game, M rushes three, Stewart hooks up with Westbrook. Colorado leaves A2 with the 27-26 win.
Maybe it's the water in SE Michigan.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:20 PM ^
Thanks for THAT trip down memory-lane.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:30 PM ^
Kordell Stewart was able to count to ten while his receivers ran the full 64 yards to get to the end zone. Just wtf.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:41 PM ^
Too soon, man, too soon.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:57 PM ^
It'll always be too soon.
I had to work that game so I blessedly missed it, but heard the ending on the radio while I was closing.
October 10th, 2021 at 11:26 PM ^
iirc, colorado kept 6 guys to block those 3 pass rushers and all 3 got pancaked during the play.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:10 PM ^
They are def tanking, which is the right choice since they still have a young roster with little talent.
If you aren’t a contender, tank and get some talent. No sense in being in the middle of the pack like the Vikings and others have been over the past 5-10 years.
October 10th, 2021 at 7:24 PM ^
Tanking isn't worth much in the NFL. You have a 53-man roster and will need to draft well across multiple rounds and multiple years. Stockpiling draft picks makes sense, but tanking in the NFL just screws your fans for little benefit. I guess it might help you get a great QB but there are also a lot of duds there and great QBs can come later too. Who is the last generational QB that went #1 overall, Peyton Manning?
October 10th, 2021 at 4:10 PM ^
Prevent defense only prevents you from winning
October 10th, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
If you are still rooting for the Lions, you care more than they do.
October 11th, 2021 at 12:08 AM ^
The best fan thing I ever did was to consciously decouple from the Lions many seasons ago. My fall Sundays have been much improved ever since.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:15 PM ^
How does the guy who decides to go for two and the win then turn around and rush three at the end?
None of this makes sense, until you remember it's the Lions we're talking about.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:20 PM ^
It's like sad flashbacks to Marty Morningwheg taking the wind instead of the ball in OT. Oh the Lions, the epitome of ineptitude.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:22 PM ^
Seriously you might as well rush zero.
They are in max protect and three guys are never getting home. The QB just sets up and throws a 20 yard strike when a WR comes open
It’s just fucking stupid.
October 10th, 2021 at 5:01 PM ^
I knew as soon as I saw the combo of rushing three and the charmin-soft pass coverage that they were going to lose.
Completely wasted their aggressiveness on offense that got them the lead. It’s coaching schizophrenia.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:18 PM ^
On a side note, this Packers-Bengals game is unreal.
5 missed fgs and a missed extra point and in OT now.
4 of the misses (3fgs, xtra point) by Crosby who was one of the top kickers in the league the past 2 years.
College kickers? Were $ yesterday.
NFL kickers....CHAOS today!
And...Aaron Rogers is still good at football.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:23 PM ^
The Bengals guy celebrated like he won the game. Dude, you missed...
October 10th, 2021 at 4:36 PM ^
It was such a perfect Bungles moment, though.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:23 PM ^
It's the manbun
October 10th, 2021 at 4:24 PM ^
Crosby redeems himself and wins it in OT
October 10th, 2021 at 4:26 PM ^
"Mason Crosby, you're my hero!"
October 10th, 2021 at 4:25 PM ^
FIRE BORGES!
October 10th, 2021 at 4:29 PM ^
They lead the league in moral victories
October 10th, 2021 at 4:50 PM ^
Are they at least hitting harder than other teams?
October 10th, 2021 at 9:06 PM ^
They truly are the best 0-5 team in the league
October 10th, 2021 at 4:31 PM ^
Playing for that #1 pick.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:44 PM ^
Yeah, but you just know they'll fuck up and get a win somewhere along the way, allowing JAX to get Thibodeaux so we can draft some perpetually injured DB.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
The Lions need to start reimbursing people who actually watch their games.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
Jax got blown out.
Over-Under on Urbz surviving the week?
Only interested because of CFB job openings.
I dont think USC would go that route...I think they may target frames.
I expect Urbz back in the SEC where he belongs next year, at LSU.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:43 PM ^
You think USC wouldn't do something because of ethics? Pretty hot take.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:46 PM ^
I believe their university prez is a woman on record (or via admin channels) as saying Urbz is not an option for their program.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:46 PM ^
USC's president is on record saying Urban is not a take.
But Meyer at LSU just makes too much sense.
October 10th, 2021 at 5:02 PM ^
Meyer may be too toxic for any major school to hire.
Though I wouldn’t be surprised if he outright “retired” from coaching, I could see him landing at a lower tier P5 school without an insane amount of pressure to win. Something on the level of a Texas Tech, Colorado, Cal, or similar.
The only major programs I could see really interested in him would be FSU if they move on from Norvell after only 2 seasons, Miami if they finally pull the plug on Diaz, or MAYBE Oregon if Cristobal were to leave for Miami.
