50th anniversary of all-UM crew on a moon landing
July 1971 saw all University of Michigan grads on the 4th moon landing crew, 7th and 8th people to walk on the moon.
Space, Bitches!!!
This is one of my favorite shirts in the MGoCollection, by the way. It definitely starts conversations.
Its starts conversations with physicists because they are wondering why the spacecraft is orbiting in the earth in the wrong direction.
To be picky you can't really tell the orbital direction just from the picture on the shirt.
Can we build a statue on campus?
Too soon?
MGoSpace.
Go Blue!
as long as it is on a satellite campus
I think about this every time I pass McDivitt-White Plaza
(On the way to Saturday morning physics of basketball lectures.)
McDivitt-White: the greatest space crew ever and The Original All-Michigan spaceflight crew.
Michigan's original Speed in Space.
And still the best version of it...
Indisputably the best college ad ever - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOOFtYvfRPc
+1, I just copied and texted that to several MGoFriends and family. And I'm going to be tweeting it too in a moment.
Only the best crew ever!!!!
Go Blue!!!!
I know the McDivitt-White corner has been mentioned already. But deserves the detail that they were the first all Michigan crew on Gemini IV with White being the first American to walk in space.
McDivitt went on to command the underappreciated Apollo 9 mission with future moonwalker Dave Scott as his CMP.
Both McDivitt and Scott are still with us. They should be invited to a basketball or football game as veterans of the game.
